More and more reports are stating that the refurb of SM will be along the lines of the HM refurb do subtle changes.

New queue
Partial track replacement
New control system
Basic Clean up

If this is all that was done how do you feel?

My two cents:

If this is it, I view it as a Nickel and Dime preview. The in WDW is the original SM, the ride deserves much more and if they put the effects from DL in it would be the best SM.

With that said of all people I am not that upset because I love SM in WDW. If you compare with no effects an just the coasters the version in WDW blows DL out of the water. So I'm not as up set bythe TDO nickle an dining as usual.

I see you've quoted my list of whats being done there, but you've got one part wrong. Its not going to be anything like HM in terms of the changes. SM isnt going to have any significant show changes, whereas HM had a LOT of changes.

I do agree with you on the coaster element of WDW being far superior to the new DL SM. DL SM obviously wins on show however.

Not just your list Steve I've heard what you listed in a couple of ofer places but you are right I guess HM got some very noticable changes.

I love the ride itself as is. Especially that one particular little hill in the dark, that always surprises me even though I've rode it at least 100 times. :) So I'll still be happy if the rides stays the same. Having said that, I did ride DL SM in January, and thought the audio was great along with the wider track and cars and the load area, but I didn't think the ride itself was as good as WDW's.

I would really like to see them change the post ride area, and clean up the line though.

Agreed they should have done something with the post show I mean they do have a Time Keeper and Nine Eye AA just lying around some where.

Highly disappointed. An 8 month closure with no show upgrades is ridiculous, IMO.

I'll still love the ride, but I will be disappointed in the refurb.

I am rather fond of SM as it is. So I'm okay with the refurb.

PArt of me wishes SM would be turned into a truly phenomenal coaster. The MK's SM has as much cubic space as DL and DLP combined. Instead of two similar, mirrored coasters, one giant monster coaster could be build that would by virtue of its sheer size blow away anything Anaheim or Paris could ever hope to build.

But short of building anything like that, I am very happy with 'our' SM. I don't need onboard audio. Just some fun theme, some show, and a level of roughness that is intended, not the result of age.

I'm pretty sure that some audio element (I can't remember if it's on-board or not) and an updated post show were being done....

If not much has changed then I'll be highly dissapointed, I really hope the whole dated 70s feeling goes away I dont need to feel like Im going back in time unless they can pull it off as a retro look and feel. Oh but Im really hoping it dosn't feel like Im riding a rollercoaster in a poorly lit wearhous anymore but Im riding through space in a rocket.

They are pretty much just restoring it. We dont want everything in disney to be changed dramatically sometimes the attraction are good just the way they are.

How does a space scene look like it is from the 70's :ROFLOL:. Maybe because I am 18 and it wasn't new to me then.

I got a decent look at Space the other day and it's about what I expected. Once upon a time I hoped for a huge refurbishment, but it was still one of my favorite rides, so anything they did to plus it would make me happy.

For my eye, it looks like a new, smoother (faster?) track with banked curves and fewer structural beams around. That's enough to make me extremely excited, as those were my gripes about Space. The expensive projection system is bound to be awesome, so with those changes, it will probably remain on my tier of best attractions in WDW, only better. Anything else is just a nice bonus I don't need.

As long as they keep Star Tunnel.
