Favorite Kilimanjaro Safari Drivers

I was unimpressed with the 2 Kilo drivers I've had so far. Both were monotone, and you could tell they were just regurgitating a spiel that they had memorized.

Now, if DIsney let them ad-lib, like the JC skippers used to, it would be different.

I have several favorites. Marc (I think it was with a C) was really cool. Our truck was delayed, and we were sitting by the load area for about 10 minutes. Tifani, Jason and I kept asking him questions, and we were having alot of fun with him.

My favorite driver is Chris. He is a personal friend, and I have never really been on a truck with him, but he knows what he's talking about. He's a really cool guy.

i cant really pick a specific driver that really stood out from the rest.. I've had a few that were alright, and the rest were like previously described in a above post; very dull and monotone.. it seemed very much like a standard script thats wasnt performed very well....

going over the shaky bridge: "Oh dear, I suppose some one didn't cross their fingers back there.. ::shrugs:: ohwell.."

I don't know our driver's name (she was a very pretty younger woman) and she was EXCELLENT!

I've already posted this story before, but being a first-timer I didn't realize that the safari was a script... I thought poachers had really invaded AK and that we had to help rescue the animals. I was completely hysterical and panicked but the CM was great at getting me back to reality and all the other tourists had a good laugh.

I don't know about you, but I don't usually remember any tour guide, or attraction host's names, but about two years ago, there was a younger guy from South Africa who had the accent and all. He was very humorous.

Originally, When the safaris first opened, most , if not ALL of the drivers were from South Africa.

While they were hard to understand, It really added alot of realism to the Safaris and I miss that.

I really don't want the Safari drivers to be comics and act like the riverboat Captains on The Jungle Cruise ride.
It takes away from the realism of the Safari theming and the educational experiance as well.

They do need to change the whole Poacher Plot though.
Thats getting kind of old.

I would rather just hear a speal about the differant kinds of Animals and their habitats.

Well, I'd have to say my friend Erik (he's a member here...just can't think of his 'name'). Although I've never been on one of his safaris, I'm sure he would be my favorite! :animwink:

I loved working KSR and took a lot of pride in what I did. We were there to provide a suspension of disbelief and while I will say that there were many drivers who were sub-par, I knew many who did everything they could to "create magic"...

Some of my favorites were Kyle, Kelly, Alex, Greg, Caty, David, Kerri, Matthew...

Unfortunately, many have moved on to other attractions or left the Mouse all together (college program). Some of the best went on to Jungle, Tower and Mansion. They really should audition Safari Drivers as they do entertainment cast members ( and pay them as such as well!)

I can't remember their name, but several years ago we had a driver who didn't care so much about the script, as he did about showing us the animals and telling us more than the spiels. If we were looking at/for an animal, he would slow down, and then kill the audio when it kicked in. I'm positive this is far from procedure, but made for a more enjoyable ride than the droll monotone script reading guides. I'm inclinded to say he was perhaps from South Africa as he definitely knew more about the animals than every other guide we have had. Not the best along the lines of a JC skipper, but best in so much as it was much closer to what I would imagine a real safari is instead of trying to inject action.

HHMMM..I am ashamed that I cannot think of his name..we sat right behind him and he did interact with us..it was very nice! I would very much like to do the AK morning ride to have even MORE interaction and time with the animals!

YES! I WANT THAT DRIVER!
I LOVE KS, but I HATE that stupid story line! It ruins the ride for me.
However, I can see how that could be an issue, especially for children.

You should have ridden it in the very beginning when there was the fake dead elephant at the end... Made kids cry and Disney got reported a couple of times from people flying over thinking they were letting a dead elephant rot on the attraction!!
