POR:Never stayed and need help!

Currently we are booked to stay 11 nights at All-Star Sports during the free dining. We are going to celebrate my 30th birthday (birthday in July but no way am I going when it's that hot and crowded!), so we're thinking that we'd upgrade a little for this occassion.

We are thinking of upgrading to Port Orleans. I will be 7 months pregnant :sohappy: and also traveling with dh and our 2 year old ds.

We've never stayed at Port Orleans, so have no idea which would be better for us....Riverside or French Quarters. Any thoughts on pros and cons of each? We'd also like to be close to the buses and food court. Which view would we need to pick for this? Is there a certain building I would need to request also?

Any help would be appreciated! :sohappy:

NOTE: I just saw this on Port Orlean's Riverside's website. Has anyone done this before? How much does it cost? Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!

It is really a coin flip between the two and you can't go wrong either way. Personally I prefer PORS. It is a bit larger, has a TS restaurant and I love the rustic theming of the Alligator bayou section. You will want to request building 14, 15 or 18. This will put you right next to the lobby, the marina and the main bus stop. You are also very close to the main pool and the playground on the island.

The baby sitting services are handled by an outside company that Disney approves called Kids night out. I have not personally used them but I have heard nothing but good things about them. Here is a link to a child care at Disney FAQ page which should answer all of your questions.. http://allears.net/pl/childfaq.htm

POR is great!
We stayed there in June 2006 & had a wonderful time.
Alligator Bayou is the area where we stayed.
It was very scenic & quiet w/ a pool very close.
You can travel over to the French Quarter & swim in the pool w/ the big dragon slide (our kids loved it).
You can also do some fishing or you can hop on one of the boats & get to DTD in no time.
We are planning to stay at POR again this Sept.
We can't wait!

Thanks Master Yoda! Which view would I have to book in order to be in those buildings? I realize I'll also have to request those buildings specifically, but don't want to get the wrong view for those.

A standard view would be your best bet. It will cost you less and give you many more options.

We love both - they are so beautifully themed! - but personally I would choose POFQ if I were 7 months pregnant. It is so compact and really easy to get around. You will not have a long walk to anything including the main area, food court or pool. The names of the areas - Rue Da Baga - are so adorable! :) POFQ shares bus transport w/POR, but is the first stop, which may be a consideration for you as well. The resorts are so close to each other it is pretty easy to visit one to check out the services. The resorts share a boat that travels to DTD, which is a nice perk and a nice respite from the buses.

We've stayed in both the Mansion and Bayou rooms at POR. We prefer the Mansion rooms, but kids LOVE the trundle beds in the Bayou rooms.

Yay! Just booked 11 nights at Port Orleans Riverside with the building requests thanks to Master Yoda! Hopefully I'll get what was requested so I can be close to the food court, pool, playground and buses. I can't wait! It'll be so much fun!

What are some fun but not so expensive things to do to celebrate my 30th birthday there? We will also be celebrating my dh 33rd and ds 2nd birthdays that will be in August. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the tips! We are driving from Maine, so we will have our minivan with us to drive to the parks with, so the buses aren't really our main concern but would like them somewhat close for when I go back the room for a nap and then meet dh and ds at the parks again.

I've requested building 14, 15 or 18. Would those be there Mansion rooms or Bayou rooms?

First of all if you are there on your birthday you can get a $75 gift card for use at select places inside the parks. I would also ask for your birthday buttons when you check into your resort. You will get quite a few happy birthdays and sometimes a little more from various CM's.

Carriage rides are offered for $35 for 25 minutes, surreys can also be rented. As mentioned the boat ride to DTD is nice. Also, Bob Jackson performs in the lounge there. He really packs them in.

My birthday is in July, but we are celebrating when we go. The main reason for going is to celebrate my 30th and our last trip together as a family of 3. My dh and ds's birthdays are in August so we'll be celebrating those as well. We understand we won't be able to get the $75 gift card since we won't be there on our actual birthdays. Would it be too weird to get the birthday pins since we will be celebrating our birthdays but our birthdays had already past?

The carriage ride sounds so nice! I think my son would enjoy it too.

I told my dh tonight that he'll have to take me on a carriage ride......he wasn't too thrilled! :brick: I told him we were there to celebrate my birthday, so we get to do whatever I want! :D Haha! Plus told him our ds would have so much fun.....maybe that will change his mind!

Port Orleans is my favorite!! Stayed at both Riverside and French Quarter, and I prefer FQ for all my future trips to the world. Both resorts are beautiful, but FQ is much much smaller, so no matter where your room is, you are close to basically everything. The landscaping at both are gorgeous, theming is to the tee. FQ is more Mardi Gras bright pastel colors, while Riverside is more of a rustic, woodsy bayou feel, which we also loved. POR has a sit-down restaurant called Boatwrights, but does not serve breakfast anymore. The rooms in Alligator Bayou of Riverside have the trundle beds.

Both resorts have the boat transportation to DTD is so relaxing and a great 15 min ride.

You will not be dissappointed in Port Orleans! Be sure to check out piano man Bob at River Roost Lounge at POR!! Hes fabulous and very funny!!

I see that it says some rooms come with trundle beds......what are they? I've searched and searched for pics of a room with one it it....can anyone help?
The trundle bed is essentially a small mattress that slides under one of the beds. It is good for a small kid but would be to small for an adult. Here is a picture from allears.
