Im sure this has been posted somewhere but I haven't been able to find too much,so I apologize for the possible repeat....

I JUST found out that I am pregnant (like today, lol) and I have a wonderful week long trip planned with my family and friends for June 12-20th.Which,if I did my math right will make me around 12 weeks or so,maybe less.

My question is what will I be able to do?Or not do? Especially with it being so early...thanks a lot!!:ROFLOL:

First off... Congratulations!!

Second point.... consult with your Doc. Tell them exactly where you are going and ask for their specific recommendations.

If in doubt... follow the park guidelines, granted they are probably the most conservative assessments with regards to health standards. Personally, I wouldn't see a problem with rides like Splash mountain since there isn't a lot of side-side jerky motions to it.

Congratulations

That's wonderful! My sister in law went to the world while pregnant and said it didn't bother her at all. She stayed away from any ride that the signs warned her not to ride and said that there's so much that you will be able to still ride.

I wouldn't take any chances on riding anything that says "not for expectant mothers". Even if it seems like it would be okay.

Think how wonderful it will be when you have your little one to take into the parks with you!

Congrats! Welcome to the 'hood, the motherhood.
I had 3 babies in 4 years and did WDW while in my 1st trimester. I have hyper-meisis, extreme morning sickness, during my 1st and 2nd trimester. But I am able to take a medication called Zofran for it. WDW was great if I felt woosy I took some medicine, rested and ATE. At WDW there are many places to sit and rest and plenty of places to eat. I had a ball eating around the world and taking fun pics of my DH and family on rides like Splash. The only ride I did that had an expcant mothers should not ride sign was the KS in AK. I am sure I will start a debate here but I rode it and was fine.
Have a great trip and have a Mickey Premium Bar for me!

WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THESE WOMEN THAT ARE ABOUT TO BUST?
SERIOUSLY? WHAT HAPPENED TO BED REST?

I saw about 6 women if not more then entire trip that were like litterly trying to stay to have there kid(s) in the park.

I went in several stages of pregnancy, including a trip around 12 weeks. I rode everything I felt like riding, including KS and MS. I didn't do Splash, but not because I "couldn't" ... We had another child who wasn't tall enough anyway, so she and I hit Pirates again while DH and DD1 went on it.

Check with your doctor and ride only what you're comfortable riding. I have extremely high tolerance levels and was on my third pregnancy at that time ... Everyone's always more worried with their first. :)

I agree with consulting your Dr... and when at the parks, definitely go with your 'gut' instinct. If you feel you shouldn't do particular ride, even if it doesn't say anything about expectant mothers, don't do it. For most of the slow moving rides, etc... you 'should' be ok. Call the doc first - thats your best bet.
My SIL announced her pregancy on our last vacation and it was as if she weren't pregnant... she drank, went on ALL the rides... it was like 'whatever' for her. I told her everytime we got on a ride (or stopped at a resturant, for that matter) she said she didnt' want to 'miss out'. I felt like I was the only one telling her not to do certain things. Thankfully the baby came out just fine 9 months later.... but you really dont want to risk that. What she did was totally wrong and she should have not done it.

That is funny...last trip I also notices A TON of pregnant women too...never seen so many there before!

Congratulations! Like everyone else has said, obviously stay away from the rides that say not for expectant mothers, but luckily Disney has many attractions that are slow, calm rides or shows so you can still have the Disney experience while pregnant! Not to mention that it's the perfect time to eat at all those great restaurants!
Have fun!

Just cause you're preggers doesn't mean you're terminally ill. I wasn't able to do much in my last two months, but if I had the option to walk around disney instead of stay at home, I'd pick WDW hands down.. :D

And congrats to the OP. That's wonderful news. Take care while you're on your trip and you'll be fine! Enjoy your next 9 months!

Good question, and I'm glad you came here and asked. You'll definitely get a broader spectrum of experience and opinions/answers than at a doctor's office! :) Ok, being the father of 4, and with my wife being at WDW during each one, I think I can give a bit of advice on this subject. :)

My wife has been on just about every ride during her pregnancies (except the Tea Cups - we never ride the Tea Cups). One time she was 9 weeks pregnant and rode everything except Test Track. The last time she was 10 and 18 weeks (two trips - late October and early December of 2007) and rode everything she wanted to. In fact, her midwife rode Tower of Terror 32 weeks pregnant! My wife was too big and uncomfortable to ride most of the thrill rides when we were there and she was about 29 weeks along with our second. Of course, mid-July in Florida and pregnant isn't the best combination for comfort anyway. ;)

It comes down to two things - your comfort level (which really should come before....) and the advice of your doctor. Your doctor is going to probably tell you to not ride anything. Of course, my sister-in-laws doctor told her it was fine to smoke her entire pregnancy (and he delivered our first, her normal OB was out of town the day she delivered). So I think your comfort level is going to be far more important than anything else.

It's normal to be apprehensive - you don't want to hurt your baby! But at 12 weeks, think of how small the baby is - there isn't much you can ride at WDW that's going to hurt. Personally, I'd avoid Star Tours, Mission: Space, and anything else that would normally make you naseous. What you put into your body is much more important at that point than what you ride.

Hope this helps, and have a great trip!

Sorry but there is no way I would ride any of the coasters, MS, TOT, Splash during my pregnancy. It just isn't worth the risk of doing something to my unborn child. Maybe I am a little more apprehensive having suffered a miscarriage at 11 1/2 weeks a few years ago, but oh well. The g forces on those rides CAN harm the baby. And earlier in the pregnancy the baby may be smaller but is more susceptable to harm. I can't speak for Star Tours because I have never been on it. I went in Dec 06 while pg and my dr also told me to avoid those rides because of the force and jolting around. My 2 boys safety in the womb was just more important to me than riding a ride that will be there when I go back. There is so much to do in WDW that I didn't feel like I was missing out on something. Just my 2 cents.

IMO, why would you pay for anything if you are not going to get a good or full usage out of it... maybe it's just me or some people have money out the @$$ and it doesn't matter to them.

There is actually very little that you can't do at Disney while pregnant, at most about 5 rides per park. MK: the mountains, barnstormer, speedway & prob don't want to do teacups. AK:EE. DHS:TOT, RnRC, Star Tours. Epcot:TT, MS. There is so much more there that you can do.

Also, only those pregnancies that are high risk or have some type of complication end up with the women put on bedrest.

True, but also think that it isn't the banging around of the baby that is necessarily the only problem... I think a good portion of the concern is placental abruption. I'm not sure how much of a worry it would be in the first trimester, but there's bound to be an OB who will pop up here eventually to let us know (or somebody who knows one  :lookaroun)

Talk to the doctor, of course, but to me attractions weren't worth it (I went when I was around 4 months) I just browsed around til everybody came back, and did the things I could around them. Still had a GREAT time! :sohappy:

That was how I felt, too. I did DL at about 14 weeks or so and had a great time, just didn't ride anything with a warning. That's not to say something would have happened, but the risk/reward ratio is way off for me personally.

Agreed again :)

I rode almost everything I wanted to and had a great time. There were very few things I couldn't do.

Like others have said, there is much more to do at WDW than just the rides. The atmosphere is what makes me the most happy and if I could have been there while I was pregnant, I would have loved it. It wouldn't have been a waste of money for me, nor is a waste of money for anyone where WDW makes them happy, pregnant or not.
