Most Suprisingly Good Item You Ever Had at Disney

When I mean suprising, I mean something like an appetizer your wife talked you into ordering, or a side dish of veggies done in some wierd way you never heard of or the dish just looked bad, or a dessert that you ordered that sounded bad but ended up looking and tasting great...so basically you were skeptical but ended up loving it!

For me, Green Tea Pudding at Tokyo Dining in Epcot. The whole meal was good, and the tempura could probably qualify for this, but the green tea pudding was so much better than expected. My wife and I both ordered it, because we were on the DDP and didn't want to waste the dessert. I thought it would be some sort of rice pudding, or just regular old pudding flavored like green tea, because the ice cream I saw others eating there sure seemed like that. But when it arrived I discovered a wonder flan like custard creation. My wife is still talking about it.

Anyone else got some hidden suprise?

Any of the soups at Boma. I mean I never expected to be wowed by buffet soups but I was. I cant think of the names now but I seem to remember a coconut curry one. Awesome.:slurp:

I have to say the Fried Catfish at the Garden Grill. It was really good! Next to the mac and cheese, the best part of the meal!

Molasses and spice encrusted T-bone at Tony's, circa 1997. I still remember it as it was so good. Much better than the steak I had three nights earlier at the Contemporary. I went in thinking pasta but the server talked me into steak when I asked for the best thing on the menu. Add to this that it was the girls first MVMCP night and we just about had the place to ourselves and as good a server as you can get (25% tip). All added up to a very memorable dining experience.

Mussels lunch appitizer at Brown Derby

Not suprising in the sense of "wow, mussles, I have never had those before" but suprising in the sense of "wow, these are some GREAT mussels"

The Ginger Carrot soup at Boma, such an odd sounding combination. Tried it and it was awesome, tastes just like Pumpkin soup.

The kebobs @ Morroco. DD18 insisted we eat there on our last trip. I was very reluctant because after reading the menu on Deb's, I just couldn't find anything that sounded good to me. Since I had pretty much decided all the dining for the week, I went ahead and booked an ADR for her sake and ended up absolutely loving it - the desserts were to die for.

Boma was also a pleasant surprise.

Durban Spiced Roasted Chicken at Boma. Not that I didn't think I'd like it, it was just that darn good.

I agree with the others who mentioned the soups at Boma. (Or anything else at Boma.)

I absolutely loved the pineapples with caramel sauce at 'Ohana last year. A couple of weeks ago, our server told us they didn't have it any more.

(Do you know if that's true, Rainfully? I see from another thread you're a Poly CM. Thanks.)

I don't know if this would qualify, but I never had buffalo before having the sirloin at Artist Point. I was skeptical, but optimistic, and it was awesome.

Try Beef Brewat Roll appetizer at Restaurant Marrakesh.

It's ground beef wrapped in a bastilla (kind of a soft tortilla) and rolled in powdered sugar. Sounds weird, but boy was it delicious!

I also had the Roast Lamb Meshoui, and it was great too, but I expected it to be.

Agreed! That and their white bean hummus and the mashed-potato-like dish...

I LOVE Boma!

They haven't had the pineapple for a couple of years now... instead they have the bread pudding with bananas foster sauce... mmmm....

Sounds like a lot of good surprises.
I wonder how many things SOUNDED good by the description or even look but ended up tasting blech!
For me, and I know I am going to get some negative responses...the Smores creation at 50's primetime. The chocolate ended up looking and tasting like nutella, and the whole thing was just too much marshmellow, not enough chocolate, I think I ate about 2 bites.

I have to second this one. I always am talking about this soup. I must have had 8 bowls of it while I was there.
I was also surprised at how good the Salmon was at Prime Time.

That actually sounds good to me!

I'm a weird eater. Not really picky...ok, well, kind of picky :o I just hate ordering something new and then being surprised when it ends up not being what I pictured at all. My latest thing has been doing google image searches for Disney foods! I look at the menus based on my ADR, choose a few items, type the restaurant name, disney world and the dish in....voila! Most of the time I get a few results that are what I'm looking for. It is also good to see photos of restaurants I've never been to, that has been fun.

I also used google image search the other day for Halloween costume ideas. After typing in "buzz lightyear" and getting good results, I simply typed "Woody".....BAD idea!
