In the coming weeks, The Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort are set to be repositioned in the Moderate Resort category. When making reservations online or via phone, the Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort will be listed along with the other moderate resorts.
The Campsites at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort will continue to operate as normal.

good! yeah, you get more space but I never thought $300 per night was a fair value for staying in a trailer, fake log exterior or not.

It's the pricing that counts.

They need some incentive to get people to stay there because the transportation there is more convoluted than at other resorts.

I was thiking the same thing. To be considered a moderate, the prices would have to be the same to fit into that category. Well, maybe not. Not all deluxe resorts have the same price.

I wonder why the move? Maybe they realized it was too expensive? But it will be quite roomy for a mod price, too if changed.

Same here....I know where i'll be staying on my next trip.:)

Edit: Just went to WDW website and it is in the moderate category but the price has not changed.

From the Disney Website, Fort Wilderness Cabins is listed as a moderate WITH A MODERATE PRICETAG---$149/night rates start at!

That dropped over 100 bucks from 255/night.

EDIT: Not sure anymore, it says 149 on the homepage, but then click the "rates" button and its still listed at 255.

Yeah, it is more expensive than a regular mod.
I priced, just to see, POFQ and WC for 4 days July 16-19:
POFQ- $953.51
WC-$1364.13

If you think about it their current price would reflect a moderate if you use the All Star suites as a comparison. Rack rate on an All Star suites is slightly higher than two rooms at the same resort. The Ft Wilderness cabins are slightly higher and in some cases slightly less than two rooms at a moderate.

If they want to drop the current price a bit to fall more in line with the pricing of a moderate, I might change our 2 rooms at ASMo for a cabin. I am not too wild about the current price/night.

I stay at the cabins two to three times a year and what a awsome place to stay, this great news. I wounder why Disney would move them to the moderate class?

This may be good for families of 5 people.
There's always been a problem for a family larger than 4.:)
My family of 5 has always runs into this too. For our August trip we booked 2 connecting rooms at All-Star Movies. There was a decent deal on the FW cabins but decided against it because we were unsure about the transportation setup. Are the cabins a good choice? I would love to hear more about them.

The cabins are a great choice. Not only do you get additional room but you also get a mini kitchen. The grounds a FW are incredible as well and there is plenty to do there at little or no cost. From a cost standpoint only PORS is still the best deal with a family of 5 but you will get less room, no mini kitchen and one member of your party will have to sleep on a trundle bed.

I posted some pics of the cabin in my TR last month, here's a couple:

and the living area:

They are very nice...there's several in each loop, but it was very quiet. I would strongly recommend renting a golf cart for getting around, as the campground is quite large and the cabins are located toward the entrance. They have bus service within the campground, but I understand that it can take a lot of time.
I personally wouldn't complain if they brought the price more in line with moderate resorts, it just might swing us staying back on property when we return in a couple of years. We loved it there, it's just not realistic for our personal situation to pay that kind of price/night. If it's within your budget I highly recommend the cabins.

Wouldn't mind giving it a try. The price/value is what has kept us away. If it does get priced more like the mods. then we would def. give it a try...esp. on our longer visits.

I think the cabins are well-suited to join the ranks of the Moderates. :) They look very quaint and offer another accommodation option for larger families....or maybe those who just like the great outdoors (but not really) :D
