What to do with The Odyessy?

I see all these posts about what to do with EPCOT. What it really needs is to fill in some of it's "dead" spaces. The Odyessy has essentially been vacant for years and it really sticks out. I think they should turn it into a character meal buffet ("The Lion King?", "Tarzan?" "A Bug's Life?") with food from around the world. It doesn't necessarily have to be all foods from the countries of the World Showcase, but foods from other non- World Showcase countries, too. Plus you could have performers who perform music from different regions of the world. Educational and fun, just what Disney wanted. What do you think?:)

I thought they used it for group events or convention type events. That being said I agree there still could be a better use for it

Yes, the Odessy to be put to better use, but don't you think something should be done with the Wonders of Life pavillion first? Talk about wasted space.

International Dinner and IllumiNations Dessert Reception

Meet your friends and family at the Odyssey in Epcot® for a celebration of international friendship. Your well-traveled and fun-loving hostess, Auntie Roz, welcomes you to amazing tastes from around the world. Help yourself to delectable international cuisine served family-style, where everyone from Grandma to Junior is sure to find a favorite dish.

As you feast, Auntie Roz and some of your favorite Disney Characters sing, dance and tell stories — sometimes they even need your help! And Auntie Roz loves birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions, so if you've got something to celebrate just give her the word and she'll give you plenty of recognition, including a special song.

After your international eating adventure, end your evening on a sweet note with a scrumptious dessert buffet and a private, reserved viewing of IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth. Theme park admission is required.

I also believe it is used during the Epcot Food and Wine Festival.

It probably could be used more...

I think the Odyssey could be used more, though I would rather have it be used for all the special events than be bulldozed. Looking at Google Earth and seeing it's pretty much sandwiched between Test Track and Mexico, there's definitely not room for an attraction. So I say, use it for Food & Wine and Flower & Garden Festivals and other special events, and close WoL use the space that it sits on for a brand new pavilion.

Having done a dining event in there in association with a large gathering..I really think there is not to much other than what they use it for already(special events/dinners). There is a limited amount of space availible, as well as space that is currently used for the first aid/baby center and the restrooms.

WOL is a different story...it's sad to see a pavillion fall into to decline like it has. Hopefully something new will be comming in the future.

Yes, Yes a thousand times yes. I am disappointed that an entire pavillion has been allowed to morph into something well below what is expected of Disney.:zipit:

Wow, great question! Personally I would love to see the building leveled and then using creative engineering they could incorporate that area into a greatly expanded comprehensive transportation pavilion. I really think there is a ton of ideas and attractions Disney could incorporate into a themed "future transportation" pavilion. It would also be easy to incorporate the monorail into the theming. The could not only use the land under the Odyssey but also the land where the butterfly pavillion is located during F&WF all the way towards Mousegear.:D

How about go back to it`s original use and let regular guests eat in the most relaxing fast food restaurant in the park? Radical I know. There was tonnes of room in there back in the day. Let SE have it for certain evenings by all means.

Clap your hands... there`s a party goin' on :D

Odyssey will never be anything else - as I wrote a while back 80% of the building is on stilts above the sink pond.

How about making it a place where you can get breakfast. I realize that they want you to go to WS hungry but it would be nice to be able to get some breakfast somewhere in future world other than that place in the land.

I was told by a CM once that companies rent it for dinners and other corporate or private events.
I think it is a joke that Disney lets that building look the way it does. It is the most DATED looking building I have ever seen and it brings down the integrity of Epcot I believe. I have been there with first timers and the reaction is "EW, why would Disney allow that?" So retro, but obviously not on purpose. It looks like it is straight out of 1973 and hasn't been touched since.
It comes in handy for Food & Wine Fest. and Grand Gatherings, but please update the look.

The Odyssey, World Showplace and more recently, The Wonders of Life Pavilion are being used almost daily for various private functions. They are also being used for hosting locations during the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival and for the Epcot Food & Wine Festival each year.

The weathered look of the Odyssey is intentional and part of it's original theming. The green "tarnished copper" roof for example is really painted wood.
