Do you "pre-pack" for your trip?

At some point several weeks prior to your trip, do you get the suitcase out and start throwing stuff in it in preparation for the big event, or do you do all your packing immediately before leaving?

Normally, I drag the suitcase out and put it in the extra bedroom 7 or 8 weeks (possibly more) ahead of time and throw things in it that we won't be needing until the trip, such as shorts, tanktops, beachtowels, etc. Obviously, there are several things that can't be packed until time, such as socks, underwear, etc.

I dragged our suitcase out recently and put it in the extra bedroom, but before I can lay it down and start putting stuff in it, we first have to clear out all the clutter from the floor and the bunkbeds (no one sleeps in that room yet...the bunkbeds are my wife's that she had at home before we got married). Unfortunately, that room is our "let's throw this crap in here and get it out of our hair" room, so there's alot of crap that has to be put away or thrown away. So we were doing the first phase of it tonight, and I hope to do more tommorrow, and then I will be ready to start packing some stuff into the suitcase.

In the process of cleaning up that room, I came across a map of the Epcot resort area that I never knew I had. I don't know if it came in the mail with an info packet on WDW or if I picked it up at a motel along with several other brochures at some point. And, in organizing that room, I found some stuff that belongs in our hallway closet, and in the process, I found our beachtowels. Up until then, I had totally forgot about those when thinking of things to prepack, so it's a good thing I started this project tonight and stumbled upon them as a result. :sohappy: Our trip is planned for April 13-20, with us leaving for the roadtrip on April 12, which is 8 weeks from today.

So how many of you dig out the suitcase and start packing several weeks ahead of time, and how many just do it all in the last few days?

I've had my carry-ons out and in my walk-in closet for months now. I put some stuff in it right away that I knew I wouldn't be wearing until in WDW, and as I come across other things, they get tossed in there too. Like MontyMon, those things have changed over the months and weeks, and as I shop :o. I am planning to really pre-pack this week since I have it off and will have no time to pack in earnest afterwards.

I take out the suitcase and as I wash certain outfits that I want to take I drop it in. I don't do this until about 2 weeks ahead of schedule. My hubby, however, packs himself an hour before we go to bed for an early flight the next am. :)

I usually only pre-pack a week or so before. I never know what is going to fit up until the last minute. :ROFLOL:

I know that feeling. :( While we were in there organizing, I found some size 34 shorts that I had thrown in there because I had eh...outgrown them. LOL Since I left my sitdown job and went fulltime at Walmart (where I had been part time) back in October, I was really hoping that doing trucks and pushing carts, and being on my feet all day doing other tasks would have burned enough calories to have shrunk my waistline a little. Apparently not, since, when I tried those shorts on, they seemed to be even smaller on me than they had been before. :ROFLOL:

About 2 months before I go I pull out the suitcases and look thru what is left from the last trip and start making lists about what I need to buy. There are alot essentials I always pack batteries, straws, extra memory cards, first aid, picnic stuff, glow sticks, etc. I usually go to the Disney Store and pick up a few sale items for my daughter.

My daughter on the other hand starts packing as soon as she knows we are going...she packs little girl essentials plus the coffee cans full of change usually two to three of them that we have saved for the trip. I always have a hard time explaining to her I am not lugging it around much less pick up her bag! She has a hard time grasping the concept we turn to the change into cash because it is not the same money she saved.

Throw me in the latter category. I wait until a few days before hand - when my excitement is at it's boiling point. That's when I usually will go do all the shopping for the trip and then whip a bag or two out to pack.

When I went down a month ago, I waited til the morning we were hitting the road to pack. The only reason behind that though was it was only a 4 day trip total and the weather reports were varying. I wanted to wait til the very last second to see if I'd have to pack warmer clothes.

I live out of my suitcase for about a month before our trip. I try to only pack things that I won't need until the trip but I always find some reason to drag something out.
I love it though because I feel like I am already on vacation.

I don't usually pack until 2-3 days before we leave, but since this year we are leaving on a Friday after school, I'll probably pack the Sunday before as I don't get home until 6:30 on most days.

I technically dont pack the suitcase untill the week before or so but I start collecting stuff months in advance and just stack it up in the back bedroom untill then. I try to buy at least one thing for our next trip every time I go to Walmart. I have already started to pick things up for June. The bigger the pile gets the closer its getting.

I would need a choice along the lines of "8 hours before the plane leaves I am finally getting the suitcases down from the attic" to be able to answer this one...:o

I start making a packing list about a week before with the intentions of packing several days before our trip. But I always end up packing the day before we leave, and am usually up until 2:00 a.m. doing so!
