Weird Experience on Splash

I rode Splash Mountain on Saturday evening some time between the hours of 8 and 9 pm. It was the weirdest thing.... the soundrack was working and in sync, but all of the AA's were completely still and lifeless. I felt really cheated by this experience since Splash is my favorite ride. It was like a boat ride through a river of singing mannequins.

Since it was a chilly weekend in Central Florida, lines for Splash were extremely short- we had literally no wait at that time on Saturday, while lines for other E ticket rides were all over 40 minutes. Do they ever turn the AA's off (maybe to save power?? or something) or was it probably just some technical problem that they didn't bother to shut down and fix right away? I would guess that the latter is true, but I wanted to check to see if any of you have had a similar experience on Splash. Does this happen often?

I have never had an experience where ALL of the AA's weren't working. Sometimes you get a handful of them not working, but all of them? I'd say it was probably a technical problem, but I don't know why they would continue to have people ride. I would think it would be shut down, and the problem fixed. No matter how many people are riding it, they deserve a good show.

wow, yeah I have never had an experience like that in Disney.
Seems like it would be sort of creepy actually... :lookaroun

Thinking it was just a tech glitch.
I have had that happen at Universal, but never Disney.
But I guess they have to make mistakes sometimes...
as unreal as that may sound. hehe

Likely a a technical problem, and most likely on that no one knew about. Did you report it to the CM at the unload dock?

Yeah, it probably was a glitch.

I'm sure all of the AA's are tied to a specific system. When the ride had to restart one time I visited, there was an announcement along the lines of "Animation is about to be activated, stand clear." So it sounds like they are all activated by a flip of the switch. So I would guess it had something to do with that whole setup.

I rode Splash a few times this past week and everything was working fine. Our first day at the world (Sunday) we rode it, i noticed that the part where Brer Rabbit hops over by the fence holding the pole with the bag on it was no where to be found. Then went on again on Thursday and it was working again. That would be kinda weird if everything was down all at once.

That is *the* most temperamental animatronic in all of WDW. The maintenance department is fixing that one almost constantly, to the point where it's been nicknamed the "hopping hemorrhoid".

Also, it's one of those things that even if it's in working condition, if your log is too close to the one in front of you, it may not have a chance to fully reset before you arrive, and Brer Rabbit won't hop by until the log behind you.

Often times what happens is that we don't even know about it. If you report it we will do a show quality check immediately, then if we deem it "bad show" we will 101 the ride. Never had this problem at the Land but I do know that all of the show elements move at night, films keep playing, lights stay on. Just about the only thing that is turned off is the ride system itself. From what I hear, constant motion keeps the hydralics working better. But of course I'm hearing this through the hydroponic grapevine. That is a EXTREME case of "Bad Show" and most likely the ride was shut down. It is possible you were in an E-stop and power was removed from the ride system and the animatronics. Normally we do have to make a start-up announcement to the effect of, the ride will be powering up immediately, please stand clear of all show animation. So maybe they do stop...

On a related note - will they ever fix the syncing issues with the fishing Brer Frog? This has been going on for over a year and he's still singing behind/ahead of the score.

Yea, I noticed that too. Sometimes its in sync other times its not. I dont know whats up with that. Once I remember seeing the Brer Rabbit at the top of chick a pin hill with one foot.

Haha, I rode Splash Mountain during that same time you did, and I saw it too! I thought it was hilarious for some reason. When I got off, I told the CMs. I assumed it was something they knew about, but I told them anyway just in case. Turns out, I don't think they did. I rode about an hour later and it was back to normal.

So, if you ride a ride, and you notice something very wrong with the show, it never hurts to tell the CMs. Sometimes things will stop functioning and we don't know about it.

Wow... this is weird, I was actually there on that time Saturday, rode Splash Mountain (with a friend who is on this forum actually) and we experienced this. Right away we informed them, and rode Thunder Mountain afterwards to notice that the logs were no longer cycling, so that the ride ops must have not known that the animatronis were off.

It seems like a problem they fixed, so it must have been unintentional.
