Larger women riding rides

Hello! My MIL is travelling to WDW with us for the first time this December. She is roughly a size 26 or so. Will she have problems fitting on Mission Space, Test Track, Soarin'...etc? I am mostly worried about the seat belts not being long enough. Any help as to what she cant ride would be appreciated, thanks!

I am a larger person and really only have trouble with the seat belt on Soarin', but I am still able to ride it. What I have the most problem with are the seats in the theaters, like for Philharmagic but I can deal with it. The turnstiles are the worst, but usually I can get around it by asking the CM if I can go through the stroller gate. The important thing is to keep a sense of humor about it. A suggestion would be to try to avoid stretchy pants at MK, which is the place with the older turnstiles. I was wearing stretchy pants and got stuck on the turstile going into Haunted Mansion. My DS had to come looking for me and help me out!:lol:

I often go to Disney with a family member is a 2X (I think?) and the only troubles she's had are with turnstyles. I'm not sure if the remodeled mansion still has turnstyles but we used to ask a CM to bring us in the wheelchair way to bypass them. She had trouble fastening her seatbelt on Test Track but I think it had more to do with her injured arm than the belt being too short. Soarin has never been an issue, ToT was not an issue, Dinosaur wasn't... SSE was tricky to get into but she managed just fine on her tiptoes. I haven't done M:S so I can't comment on that.

I think in general seat belts at WDW are long enough but some rides are tricky to get in and out of. As long as you offer her a hand when she needs it, she should be fine My relative always has been. I always make sure I check the turnstyle situation though and if I see one, I personally ask the CM so my relative doesn't feel embarassed by the situation.

I'm 18/20 pooh shaped girl who's 5'2". This last trip I had trouble getting in/out of my honeypot...I tried for the back seat, not sure if it's easier in the front. I've always had trouble with the turnstile at HM. Hope the rehab has fixed this problem. Otherwise, I don't really have trouble. On Primeval Whirl, I sit with the smallest kid in our group or if it's only 2 or 3 of us, I ask to sit alone. Dinosaur, I just get pains from the seats cuz it's a little cramped but otherwise your MIL should be ok...have fun!

My MIL is pretty short and has a large belly, I just dont want to embarass her and would rather bypass things so she doesn't know any better. I am a size 20 and have had no problems on anything, but not sure about people who are even larger than me.

Unless your MIL is in excellent health she may want to avoid Mission: Space altogether. It puts quite a strain on the heart and the acceleration effectively doubles ones weight for brief periods. Good luck!

I don't have any trouble with any of the seats, but the turnstyles are a pain I have mastered a sideways entrance thru them, but it is still frustrating at times. With the seatbelts, I pull them all the way out before sitting, then buckle and let the extra go back in. (this is a big help when you have short arms like me)

I am a BBW similarly sized to your MIL. I have ridden every ride except Mission Space. I choose not to even risk the mild version.

I agree with the turnstiles comments. The seat belts on all rides are long enough- although sometimes DH helps me connect it. Soarin' belt is fine- but there are hand bars on the side that get blocked. Ask to sit on an end.
RNR, EE, Space Mountain, BTMR, Test Track- all adjust to your size.
Splash Mountain is a squeeze if you're large busted- but still fine and comfy.
The only rides I didn't feel comfortable on were Kali River Rapids and Primevel Whirl. I did them once- but not again.
BTW- the front honey pot seats are better on Pooh and have more leg room for those taller folks.

The CM are very helpful. They tend to automatically give us the end seats, etc. They are also courteous in seating at restaurants and steer us to tables vs. booths.

My DW is a BBW and we went on MS (green) at least 10 times in August. No problems or issues with entry/exit or the ride itself... but we didn't attempt "Orange."

The last time I was at WDW was this past Feb.....I am 5'8" and, at the time weighed 305........I had no problems with anything. The turnstiles can be narrow, but I always went through sideways. Pull your seatbelts all the way out with one hand, BEFORE you sit down. This will make it easier to get buckled in. I rode Mission Space with no problems at all.

One thing I appreciate about Disney, after being to other parks (Paramount, Cedar Fair), is their attempt to make even the thrill rides accesible to bigger folks. Most coasters, etc. nowadays aren't made for larger riders. Seating is tiny.

However, I leave for WDW in 3 weeks, and am down to 270!:sohappy:
I'm really looking forward to going! I just hope Boma doesn't derail my diet!

:sohappy: congrats on the weight loss! that's great! And as for Boma... at least you'll be getting a ton of exercise in the parks if it does derail you a bit

I too am a larger woman, the same size of your MIL. I have had no problems with any of the rides.

I completely agree with littlered about pulling the seat belts out all the way, sitting down connecting and letting the extra pull back in.

MS:Orange was fine for me two different years . . . fit just fine.

Kali River Rapids, no problem fitting . . . just the heavier side of the boat gets more soaked . . . bring a throw-a-way rain poncho . . . you can get them for a nickel ninety-five at your local drug store . . . put in on when you are walking over to get on the ride and throw it away after the ride . . . this is a beautiful invention.

Primeval Whirl was tight, but I fit and LOVE that ride.

The turnstiles are a bit cranky, but I too have mastered the sideways entrance. :lol:

What about water parks? Do you 'larger ladies' go to the water parks? I love swimming but I feel very self-conscious walking around in a swimsuit. I usually wear a sarong while walking around, but obviously can't wear that on the slides. I don't want to stand in a line in a swimsuit, so I usually avoid anything there with lines. I'm not that big - I don't have any problems getting onto rides or through turnstiles - but I am big enough to feel embarrassed in a swimsuit!

Can you wear anything over your swimsuit onto the rides etc.?

I bought the BEST thing ever from Junonia catalog. I have an Aquatard. It is made of bathing suit material. It has long sleeves that I normally pull up to my elbows and it has capri legs. It is all once piece and it zips up on the front. This allows me to have a lot of fun with my husband at the water parks and not be too self-conscience of my large body. It also helps to say to yourself . . . I don't know anybody here, who cares! I have noticed many a large woman looking at me and wondering where I got it from . . . I know they want to ask but are too embarassed, probably for me.

I have not seen it in the catalog in years. But, you may find a similar item in a dive shop. People tend to wear them under their wetsuits for warmth.

I have no problem/discomfort with water parks in regards to bathing suits. I do the pools/water slides at all the resorts, etc. in a regular bathing suit. If anyone else has a problem with it- don't look.

My problem is that I wear glasses and dislike contacts. I hate not being able to see where I'm going and what's coming up........
