What's so special about Le Cellier?

Hi everyone;

I'm planning my first trip to Disney World for May 2008. I've learned a great deal through this forum - thank you!

While reading about the various restaurants in WDW, I've noticed Le Cellier is frequently mentioned as a personal favourite. I'm curious what's so special about this restaurant, and whether I should try it. Exceptional food? Exceptional atmosphere? Something else?

My understanding is it's in the Canadian pavillion, and they specialize in steaks. I live in Vancouver, Canada, and so I'm wondering if it's the same kind of meal I can enjoy at a good local restaurant, or whether there's something about Disney's Le Cellier that makes it a not-to-be-missed experience.

Thank you kindly in advance.

It's a very good steak restaurant. Consider it a place with gourmet chefs preparing high-quality, well aged steak with flair and add in phenomenal appetizers and desserts in a restaurant nestled in a wine cellar.

The food is great, the ambiance is very comfortable and as a Canadian, the staff treat you like long-lost family [at least they have every time we've eaten there].

Oh, and book as early in the day as you can get through on the 180-day ADR limit... The restaurant books up fully very quickly. You can book closer to your vacation, but it's hit and miss to get the date and time you want [mostly miss].

Call while you are there too because you may get in on a cancellation. We have the dining number pre programmed into our cells phones.

The BREAD! Also it is a steakhouse and I don't eat steak or meat other than seafood, so I avoided Le Cellier until 2 years ago. I had this incredible salad there for lunch one day - I'm not really a salad person either! :ROFLOL:
The bread is really killer, though.

The pretzel bread is great! Our steaks were really great too. My eight year old loved his steak so much that my husband asked the chef to come to our table so DS could compliment him in person. They also have the cutest desert chocolate "moose." I have a great picture of it, but could not figure out how to post it. This is a definite must do on our trips.

I've eaten there twice. The first time we had an excellent server, the food came out promptly and was delicious.

The second time made me never want to eat there again. I saw the server three times during the meal. When he took our drink order, when he took our food order and when he brought me the check. The food was all brought out by other people and never was able to get a refill on my drink. The food took almost an hour to get to our table after being ordered and it was no more busy that it had been the last time I was there. We passed on dessert because we were afraid we wouldn't see it until another hour had gone by. Needless to say, we really didn't leave all the much of a tip for that meal.

The bread and the Cheddar Cheese Soup. Also the best cheeseburger and fries I've ever had in my life. I will eventually try a steak there someday, but I just can't see going there and not getting the burger at lunch.

My steak was the second-best I've ever had. It was just sooooo good. Their cream cheese mashed potatoes are amazing as well. So smooth and creamy. The pretzel bread is fantastic and so is the cheddar cheese soup. It's just pure yummy. :slurp:

Meega, nala kwishta!
The place is OK. You can get a decent meal there for a fair price.

If you are looking for the best steaks however, you must venture over to the Yachtsman Steakhouse at the Yacht Club. Very good steaks there, but as you would expect, pricey.

But for the ultimate steak, might I sugest Shula's Steak House at the Dolphin. Now I haven';t personally eaten there, but I have a friend from work who just has and he said this was one of the best steak houses he's eaten at. And this is comming from a guy who only goes to places like Capitol Grill's for steaks. Of course, it comes at a higher price too. :)

I disagree, best steak on property is at Jiko. Hands down the best filet mignon i've ever had.

DH & I are not sure why everyone raves about it so. When we went the service was slow and my steak was undercooked. (A lot). Some people go for the soup and bread but we want a more unique dining experience at Disney if we are in the World Showcase. Can hit a good steak place about anywhere.

We've been there a couple of times, and it was ok..... Enjoy many of the other resturants alot more. For me, it's not a place I would call everyday to get in.

I've enjoyed the food at Jiko's, Artist Point and California Grill more.

Oh, I love Jiko as well. Even have a reservation for there in October. But I've had better elsewhere too. I was just commenting that a friend liked Shula's very much. And comming from this person, it must be a fantastic steak because he only eats at the best steak places around the US.

But like everything else, taste in food is subject to the taster, and what one loves another can hate. Best to recommend and say try it for yourself.

Give me a knife and fork, I'll eat at any of them! :slurp:

Really, there is nothing special about Le Cellier -- but for people who like meat, there is nothing else like it inside a WDW park -- I like the dark decor - it always feels cool inside -- the steaks are average, but plentiful. If you look at the menus at all the other restaurants everywhere inside Epcot, they are highly geared toward carb-based meals filling out a basic small entre. I am not a fan of carbs. Give me a cow anyday. I usually have at least one meal at Le Cellier on every visit.
