Up, Up, Updates Away

If I'm correct, Grandpa (who mentions laser discs and car phones) was voiced by Rex Allen Sr (the original father in the NYWF1964 version). He is, indeed, dead. But his son, Rex Jr, is alive and well, and also does a very good stand-in for his dad. I think they've done similar "impersonations" for new Paul Frees style audio in Haunted Mansion.

Alas, the great Jean Shepherd is no longer with us so new Father dialogue is out. However, BJ Ward (and her awesome, awesome voice) is still going strong so new Mother lines are not out of the question.

You mean you guys don't have a big, clunky virtual reality machine with graphics worse than the original Playstation at home?

I never quite understood the final scene actually. Is it supposed to be set in the "today" time or is it the near future? I don't know anyone with a virtual reality video game system, or an oven that responds to voice commands. I think they set it in the "future" and make it all commentary on things that just aren't going to happen anyway

"Man, what's with those flying cars? Those are crazy"
"Isn't it great how American scientists banded together and solved global warming?"
"That alien invasion six years ago really scared us. Luckily Will Smith saved the day though"

Not true. They could always give John (the father) a new voice. They've done that many times before in the many times that they've changed the show over the years.

Well, yes, but if it's just a quick change re-voicing Father through the whole attraction might be out of scope. Though I suppose I should have spelled it out with a big disclaimer of 'with the current voice cast', but I figured my point would go across.

the ending was supposed to be futuristic. In fact in its original incarnation at the world fair, the city outside was the city of tomorrow Walt had been dreaming about in Epcot.

- so futuristic guests exited forwards and up a speedramp. Kind of makes todays `94 ending a little tame....

Will the Liberty Inn still remain a counter service restaurant? It would be nice to see America with a nice sit down meal since so many countries have fantastic food.

I just hope the refurb doesn't effect too much of the COP. It's a classic attraction (even if the last scene is dated). I always sing along (quietly for I don't want to have people giving me the evil eye).

When (or what month) are they expecting to open Toy Story Mania?

I agree re: PhilharMagic getting some advertising love. Before my last WDW visit, I knew of the attraction, and had even read good reviews of it, but the show was never on my MUST DO list. We ended up going to watch it only because we didn't know what to do next, and because the queue for the show was non-existent. I must say we were very surprised at how great the show was. It was a terrific refresher near the end of a long, hot day.

What other people? :animwink:

I know the rumored timetable had an opening in "Spring 2008," I've heard April as well. If ReDis is correct that it's behind schedule, then maybe look for at least soft openings to start around then? Maybe?

Good news for COP

I am glad to hear that COP is getting some updating, personally I wish they would completely update the attraction, even if that means completely changing the show. I love the theater-go-round presentation and would hate to see the format go away because they allowed the show being presented to die a slow, languishing death.

Liberty Inn sounds much better. We were on the dining plan so we ate here for a cs meal. We really didn't care for it much and the desserts were gross. Glad to see a change here.

It would be *AWESOME* if CoP was redone so that the first half of the attraction was the 20th century, and the second half was *far* into the future (a la CoP's close cousin, HORIZONS). Then the ride might not be in need of a revamp so often.

I am glad COP will be getting a new video game, that is so dated. I am always surprised that Philharmagic is never really that busy and its a great attraction.

As always thanks for a great update. I'm happy to hear that COP is getting some much needed love. This whole Toy Story ride seems like it's a bigger deal then i thought it was. I can't wait to see how it turns out. I really like Universal MIB, and hope that it is at least up to that level.
