You first explain how "being profitable for Disney" makes them equivalent theme park experiences.
Until you can do that, I'm not sure we're going to be close to the same page.

You said staying late at a sit down meal is a legitimate reason to stay after the park is officially closed. Why are getting a mickey bar or picking up a knick knack not as legitimate of reasons as eating a sit down meal?

This thread is like 8 pages too long right now ...
Disney wants to crack down on the amount of non-resort guests staying in the park long after park close during EMH ... and everyone agrees checkpoints are good things ...
No one said Disney will no longer allow non-resort guests to stop in a Main Street gift shop after Wishes and grab something, or grab an ice cream from the ice cream parlor ... but after about 30 mins to an hour, there is absolutely no reason a non-resort guest should be there ... and everyone agrees ...
So why are people still debating?

I'm going to make 2 points in this post. To avoid confusion, here is the first:
Your point is that because you'd stay in the parks to get Mickey Bars, shop, etc., it should be allowed because "Disney is profiting." I disagree that Disney is profiting. Its not quite as simple as "I'm giving them money, so they're profiting." By allowing non-resort guests to remain in the park past regular closing, the *impression* is given to those guests, and the resort guests enjoying EMH, that by staying offsite, you can still enjoy some of the benefit of EMH. This impression is given simply by *being* in the park, and the park thus being more crowded than if it were just occupied by resort guests. By perpetuating the idea that you can stay offsite and still enjoy partial perks of EMH, you're actually causing Disney to lose more money than your little Mickey Bar can compensate for.
This leads me into point 2.
By being *in* a restaurant, and not wandering around the park (which causes the perception I described above) you're not perpetuating that false idea, and thus not cheapening the EMH experience for resort guests. By your logic, you're doing the right thing and adding to Disney's bottom line.

Most are "soft closing". Guests on line for an attraction can ride the attraction even if they don't get to the front of the line until after the park closing time. Shops remain open after closing.
A "hard close" means guests are expected to leave the park shortly after closing. The lines at the rides are closed once they're too long to accommodate additional riders prior to park closing. Shops are closed at closing time. A variation would be to escort non EMH guests out of the park or at least refuse to serve them.
It's up to Disney to decide what kind of closing they want. During the past few years Disney has gone to a soft closing, at least for the Christmas and Halloween parties. Guests without wristbands were allowed to stay to shop and even view fireworks and the parade. I don't think that's particularly fair but it's up to Disney to decide policy and it's up to us to complain to Disney if we don't like experience.

Personally, we bought tickets for the upcoming P&PP and if we see lots of non-paying guests enjoying the party I will have every member in my group write individual letters of complaint. Whats the purpose of paying extra for a hard ticket event if everyone can stay?

They are very generously giving of their vacation time for no pay to add to the atmosphere for paying guests.

I have no idea - I gave up arguing. It makes no sense to keep explaining to people who don't understand how things like this actually work (all of the guests gone by 30 minutes after close? Uh huh, sure...
)Just looking around tonight I saw a roughly 80-20 ratio of non-wristband to wristband guest. The average EMH attendee would rather hit the rides during the bulk of EMH than shop, so I fail to see what all of the complaining is about.
I'm great at being irrational... really.. i am..
But when i'm in a park for EMH, I only expect to not-see regular guests on rides or in areas that far away from the main corridors. The shops? I'd be surprised if I didn't see people shopping late. It happens every night.
The restaurants? I dunno what the policy is, but I know Epcot extends several of it's seatings until 10pm for EMH. I've yet to make ressies, but i think if they got a ressie more power to them. I've never had a problem with long lines at any of the counter-service places, and i can totally sympathize with wanting food late and finding nothing open. I'm denying anyone food/drink unless it really gets out of hand, like 4th of july crowds in Cosmic Rays.
I guess i really don't see why this is a problem - Disney realized one blip in their policy/proceedures and corrected it with the checkpoints. They know that MK attractions, far moreso then other parks, stop checking for wristbands at a certain point (just try getting in anywhere all night at Epcot without one - I swear TT and Soarin CM's take joy in turning people away).

I went to Disney in California for the 50th. We went in Nov/Dec. Out of the 4 nights we spent there, two nights were the employees Christmas party and we had to get out ON THE DOT! No shopping, everything was CLOSED. Spending all the money we did, we had NO qualms at all about leaving. No complaints, no , no beating a dead horse, we just left because we had to. What is the deal here? Sometimes I think people just have to complain to see if it gets a rise out of everyone. Your supposed to leave? You leave, no if ands or buts......just do it. Why does everything that happens in Disney become such a major issue? I'm sure there are plenty of other nights on your vacation that the parks are open normally. So once in awhile you might have to get out when it NORMALLY closes, you do it. That's it, end of discussion! And for the people from England, you get perks also! Our free dining plan was offered a very short time this year. From what I understand, you have a much bigger time span that you have free dining. Do you think we don't get upset over stuff like that? Yes, we do, but that's the breaks and we deal with it.
