Well, it looks like a portion of the wand itself (the steel structure the Mickey's hand was "holding") was removed last night. All I have is the webcam picture to back up that assertion...anyone else have pictures?

Moving pretty quickly. Wasn't it said that it would take almost 3 months to get the entire structure down? I think it will be down before 3 months.

I think the three months included landscaping and other various cleanup chores that would have to be performed after the wand structure was totally removed.

Also, let's not forget there is probably a good deal of wand structure we can't see that is submerged in the ground. I can't imagine that will be as easy to remove as the visible wand. The updates won't be nearly as fun then, either :(

It might be 3 months for the total wand project...finish work, landscaping, removing all the individual stars from SSE...and any new lighting effects added...

Well if their bringing in a 2nd crane in today to remove the heaver sections , then chances are most of the remaining structure will be gone by Monday :sohappy: :sohappy: Crane rentals aren't cheap. I wonder what this is costing ?

I get the impression that they just meant that the wand would be down by the 25th, not really meaning that it would take that long....

I figured that it would take a few weeks. I was guessing 3 weeks with 5 working days a week, but they are only doing 4 working days. So I would say 3.5 now to get the structure down. They can do the other things at a slower rate it they want as long as it's down.

Where's Merf? He's been awesome updating everyone on the progress. I hope he hasn't lost his enthusiasm.

Merf never fails. Oh ye of little faith.

Don't hassle the Hof and don't mess with the Merf.
Words to live by.

In spite of rain, or snow, or gloom of night, or pernicious CM's, Merf will come through.

They do a 5-working day week (Sunday thru Thursday nights). It's been two weeks and they have removed 10 letters, toothpaste, and the wand. There is easily another month left for them to remove the main structure and the stars.

Maybe Merf got a...whachamacallit...JOB?

Hmmmm. All work done in 3 months? Landscaping, lighting etc. That would be about Oct 1st. Maybe there is something planned for the 25th. This has to be costing alot of $$$$ but it will definitely be worth it IMHO:D

Do they rent out cranes or does disney own their own? It would make more sense for them to own one of their own, I would think.

Yes we rent cranes for work on property. Mostly from Sims Cranes.Disney does not own any cranes. The one at Epcot cost almost $1,200,000:eek: .Some smaller equipment is owned by Disney such as scissor lift and man lifts and such.:D

Just wanted to add, it's cheaper to rent than buy. Also you don't have to pay for insurance, maintenance or repairs on the equipment which can be VERY expensive. For example we can rent a boom lift for $1800.00 a month this includes delivery and pickup from the site. Purchase cost for that same piece of equipment is about $125,000,than you have to have a truck big enough to haul it
back and forth to the jobs, thats another $100,000 for truck and trailer. Or if you call someone to do it, that could cost at least $750.00 to deliver it and $750.00 to pick it up.
