Success With Million Dreams?

Has Disney been having success with the Miilion dreams promotion? Curious to know if anyone has received anything of note. We are looking forward to our trip in October. Lost count how many times now....

Im not sure if this an official prize, but when i was there in December, as we were leaving Animal Kingdom a man stoped us and said that if we accept we could get a magical dream ride back to our resort instead of taking the bus. We were a little hesitant at first but then he showed us his badge so we went. On the ride he told us all about new things being done at the parks and the castle suite. At the end he awarded us with a certificate that said our magical experience was a Mickey's Magical Dream Ride. It was pretty exciting to be selected for something like that, even though its not a huge prize! But i still dont know if it was part of YOAMD.

I read on another message board that someone's 11-year-old daughter won an 8-day trip to London/Paris worth $25,000 while they were in DTD.
That's pretty notable.

^ Probably one of the Adventures by Disney prizes...but that still sounds awesome!

I don't think YOMD has been very successful. Disney parks have always been "the place where dreams come true", so the celebration seems kinda random. The prizes are all awesome, but nobody is gonna go to WDW just to win prizes.

You'd be suprised. There have been some great marketing efforts that have led to new business from guests that have never visited before, particularly the chance to stay in the Castle Suite and the "1600 dollar" price point.

Seems that fastpasses are the most won prizes. Everyone that I know just about that has been recently won dream fastpasses. I also won them and also some one time fastpasses good good for any MK ride. A friend also won a limo ride to MCO instead of the Magical Express buss.

While I will be at WDW only once during YOMD this July, I've been to Disneyland out here in CA about six times during YOMD and won nothing and have never seen anyone with anything, no dream fastpasses, no special ceremony done during parades, nothing. Its totally possible that I missed all that stuff or that nothing notable was given away while I was there but as far as I'm concerned, outside of the special Mickey Ears I've seen nothing outside of the normal Disney stuff. Glad to hear though that its having a positive effect on theme park attendance. The reopening of Pirates over here makes it hard to gauge just why people are in the parks.

Well I don't think it's very successful, but I might be biased since I've been there a dozen times since the promotion started and I haven't won anything!

Well, I haven't been to the parks yet since the promotion started, but I've won three sets of the Dream Mickey ears and one lanyard through the mail-in entries. (kept one set of ears, gave the other two away to my niece and my co-worker's granddaughter) Here's hoping I win something of note while at WDW in June and September. (Though I just won a radio call-in contest, so I think I've used up all my luck for a while...)

As for the little "Magical Moments" that aren't necessarily true "Dreams" (at least in the sense of being official prizes from the YOAMD contest rules), I've heard that the higher-up Disney management is trying to use them to get the Cast Members more actively involved with the Guest experience again, making special magic for them. The hope is that these little extras continue on after the promotion is over.

I've been to the parks for six, 2-5 day visits since October 1st, sent about 20 postcards since January and received nothing to date. But, I'm lucky that way, I guess.

I've seen lots of people walking around with Dream Fastpasses but have never seen any awards actually being awarded. Whenever I've seen the dream givers, they are always just walking around.

When we were there in Dec. my daughter was granted a little magical moment. She got a free facepainting. Nothing real big, but she was excited. Especially since she was paying for the facepainting herself(she had already had one that I paid for) and ended up not having to.:)

Well, that's good. A drop in park attendance would be pretty bad for Disney, so I'm glad the new marketing strategies have actually worked.

we were expecting a drop in travel to Orlando this year (small, but a drop none the less), but so far, the market has been stronger than anticipated.

The two weeks around Easter were the strongest so far this decade.

I hit the parks most every week unless it's busy (like spring break), so far I've just won refillable mugs at Blizzard Beach. But hey, I don't complain. Free is free.

I think this is a SUPERB idea!! It's so enjoyable to see Cast members that seem to enjoy their job.

I have to say though, some still need to gain that Disney magic. I came across one at the Fantasyland nut wagon last Saturday that ignored guests for about 2 minutes while talking with another cast member (seemed she just got back from break from what I heard). Then she began to wait on people in the ever growing line and never even made much eye contact with the guests. When I got up there, she had an obvious "who cares" attitude ~ no smile, little eye contact, minimal speaking in a very low tone. She never thanked me or said squat after taking my money. In fact, she almost forgot to give me the items I paid for even. Not a magical moment! She was a candidate for being given a task that required her to learn some better guest interaction skills. She, quite frankly, sucked at them and struck me as a "I hate this crap for $7 an hour" type of worker personality.

I've seen a lot of people with the fastpass cards. I have yet to see anyone in the process of winning one or winning anything. Maybe they award them quietly. Seems it would be more effective if they made more noise about the winners.

I do think that some of it is not so much related to the winners in the park as much as when the winners get home. If each one of them tells 10-20 people and thats the one thing that pushes them to visit WDW then it is worth it. For Disney to get around a thousand dollars for the investment of a couple fast passes, doesn't seem to bad of a deal.

Personally, I'd love to see the Dream FASTPASS part of the YOAMD morph into the ongoing Magical Moments program. Perhaps Disney could redesign the FP cards to be smaller or more economically produced?

I didn't win anything, but when I visited in January I was very excited to meet the Mayor of Main Street U.S.A. (who "tested" and then escorted me over the bridge in to Adventureland :animwink: ) AND to see my first Streetmosphere experience at the Studios. That was magical as far as I was concerned!! :sohappy:
