Can I have keys to 2 different rooms ?

I'm staying at POR and even though I know this is kind of a no-no I will be spending nights in two different rooms. My Mom and stepdad have a room with his grandchildren and my sister and brother in law have a room with their children and each room has a trundle bed.

I'll be sleeping in whichever room i happen to be babysitting for that night. I realize that my room key will also be my park pass and my dining plan but can I get a spare key to the other room for our party?

It would just be more convenient to have keys to both rooms rather than continually trying to borrow a key from one of the other adults because they will need it.

If anyone has any experience or advice I'd appreciate it.
Thanks
El.

12 more sleeps to WDW! :sohappy:

I'm not sure, but I don't believe you can get an extra room key for the room you are not registered. But you wouldn't have to borrow a key from one of the adults to access the other room, you will have the room keys for the kids you are babysitting.

Are the rooms side by side? If so, do Disney Resort Hotels have doors that connect adjoining rooms, like many hotels and motels do?

Connecting rooms do have doors between them, adjoining rooms don't necessarily connect. :lookaroun Took me a long time to understand that one.

I would just ask to have one of the kid's keys in case you need to leave the room. How old are the kids? If they are small enough you probably won't be leaving the room anyway.

Okay, miss technical, let me rephrase the question.:p :ROFLOL:

Do the rooms connect, such that you could just enter through the same door, using the same key, and just walk through into the other room? Does Disney even offer such a thing?

I think she WAS answering your question. If your reservation says Connecting rooms, then there is a door between the two rooms, which can be opened to allow access to both rooms. I've booked rooms at AKL this way when The daughter's boyfriend joined us. He & my son slept in one, my daughter slept in the other Queen bed in our room.

If it says Adjoining rooms they are next to each other, but there is no connecting door between the rooms.

I remember skiing in Utah, and being awakened at some ungodly hour by the noisy people checking into the connecting room. (the door between the rooms was locked) Turns out it was my SIL, BIL, and our niece and nephew. They became connecting rooms so the kids could visit back and forth.

They will not give an extra key for a room. I know this from my last trip where I was having all sorts of problems with the room keys demagnitizing. When I went to the front desk after not being able to get in my room, I wanted to have a second key and they wouldn't give it to me. Mind you I was not on any sort of package, strictly a room rate. After me carrying on for a bit, they did come out will a special key that could be used only one time.

At the same time though, I've been able to add a person to my room (no charge) and leave a key for them at the front desk so they could use my room to get ready for an event. I had their full name and contact info though, so it's not like i was making up a person to get another key printed (I don't think they want 2 keys for 1 person for 1 room ever), and that person had to show photo ID.

So perhaps if anything, they could have an extra child's or adult key printed on the second room, in your name though, and you could utilize that.

Last October I took my friend with me. When arriving we asked if I could have a key to my granparents room, because that's where I was going to be sleeping. They said sure and just asked my grandfather to come over and present his ID. Then I demagnitized both of the keys and I still got new ones for both rooms without any problems. So I would try and get the extra room keys.
Hope I've helped

I know the last time I booked multiple rooms under my name I was able to access all the rooms under my reservation with our room keys, and vice versa. We had 3 different rooms, so it can be done. All 12 keys could access any of the 3 rooms.

They can and will give you an additional key if the person registered to the room ask for it. We have had several family members staying in the same hotel and have had keys made so we could all access the rooms.

Hey Tigsmom, it took us awhile to get that correct too but now we know. We actually had an "adjoining rooms" request be considered across the hall from each other. Since we tend to travel in a pack (6 or more) we always ask for connecting rooms.
