Staying at Caribbean, Should I switch to POR?

Greetings all. I can't make up my mind tonight. My wife and I are meeting some friends next weekend at WDW to celebrate my birthday and one of our friends birthday. We all have reservations at the Caribbean, the only moderate I've never stayed at.

I have been thinking, we're planning on drinking around the world and that type of thing, and will probably stay away from MK so we don't act like idiots with all the young ones (most are at MK as we all know).

I remember the bar area at POR having a fun piano player who does shows. Does anyone know if this still takes place? Does anything like this take place over at the Caribbean?

It's all about the drink honestly, we're all adults looking to have a fun, yet safe, time.

Oh... If you'll be there from 19-21, drop me a note! It will be 5 o'clock somewhere! :)

No they have a piano player in POR that gets the crowd going. He is most definately still there. I love coming in to the POR lobby after a long day at the park and hear the piano man and everyone laughing. It sounds like a great time, but I am always too tired to join the fun. After drinking the world that would probably be good fun:D HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

Yea he was there last summer--I think he`s called Bob-- he`s great fun and always has a good time with the audience. He doesn`t do every night though so you have to check the days.

Piano Player Bob is still there. He is GREAT!

You can see his schedule here.... http://www.yehaabob.com

He does get the place rockin' almost as hard as his piano (if you go you'll understand).

The other thing about POR is that you can take a boat to Down Town Disney and increase your selection of spirits with out having to drive!

In addition, we have stayed at both properties (CBR and POR), and really loved the POR for it's relaxing atmosphere and beautiful grounds.

HAVE FUN!!

I honestly would not switch from CBR to POR. The bus service at POR alone is enough to make you never want to stay there again. POR shares a bus with POFQ and the busses are always crowded and there's a long line at the park always. I'm talking, no other resort has a line, but the line for POR fills multiple queues. And they never call extra busses, even though that's supposed to be the wonderful thing about busses, being able to dispatch more based on crowds. CBR has its own bus. Yes, it has multiple stops within the resort, but it doesn't share a bus with any other resort. And I much prefer the tropical island theme of CBR to the backwoods theme of POR. They play steel drums and Jimmy Buffett music all over. It feels like it's 5:00 always. ;)

I like your thinking! I will need a bunch of "boat drinks" when we arrive, I just found out my wife bought Jimmy Buffett tickets here in Otown. That's awesome, but man, $300 for two tickets! We're helping Jimmy's great-great-great-great grandkids live the life!

Thanks for the help. Anyone else have suggestions?

POR and POFQ = boat to DTD = more potential for fun.

POFQ has a piano/jazz guy several nights a week at the lounge.

CBR's only bar is outdoors, and I'm not sure how late it's open.

Hey there Yes the Piano gy is still at POR and he does rock. I normally would recommend POR over Carribean ( I prefer some of the amenities) but the food court is being taken down for a refurb now and will be down till mid April!!! Based on that I dont know how comfortable I would be, so I would choose a different option due to the construction!!
Also for a great time, check out Raglan Road, the new Irish pub in downtown Disney/ Pleasure Island. There is no cover charge, the food is great and the band is always entertaining. If you come around 9 the music will be traditional Irish music as these lads all come from there. Stick around though as they get into more styles later such as rock and even a little reggae!!! It is an interesting blend that has to be seen to be believed. The best days for the band are Thursday, Friday & Saturday as they expand the band to include standard drums and a bass guitar after a certain time. Belle

Ironically, my name is Bob Jackson also LOL We love Bob and make sure to see his show each time we are there.

I just wanted to point something out real quick on the bus issues - if you don't mind a walk, we've actually taken the FQ bus to get to POR if the line is shorter. For some reason, esp. with the Magic Kingdom, there is always a longer line for POR (like out the queue) while FQ is non-existant. If you can handle a short walk, take the FQ bus and walk back! With that said, I agree, for some reason POR always has bus issues. But then again, we've had issues off and on at many of the resorts so I wouldn't let that be a show stopper for you. It is what it is and not worth worrying about the whole trip. After all, its WDW!

Like Wannabebelle said, the PO-R's food court is going through a rehab, so getting a quick bite, which is difficultat any WDW food court under normal circumstances, could be a tremendous pain this time. I'm sure many people will be using the POFQ food court at this time as well. I've always had access to a car when I've stayed at PO-R whether we drove down or flew and rented a car, so even if we intend to use the buses, if we see a line, we just drive instead. Not sure how much of an issue Disney's transportation is for you...

If you really wanted to enjoy PO-R's lounge, I'd either say eff it, stay at PO-R, OR stay at POFQ. It's only like a halfmile between the front doors of both resorts, and PO-R is so spread out, I wouldn't be surprised if it took you LESS time to walk from PO-R's lounge to POFQ than it would the edges of PO-R, which you could conceivably be located.

 Since the food court is gonna be down at POR except for limited things I would just stay at POFQ. same thing almost. same boats, etc. usually, they pick up FQ first on the busses. depends on the day, I guess. anyway, we stayed at CB. dont think the atmosphere is so nice. their busses are just as full time they go all around the resort. Long ways to walk if youre out far. happy birthday and have a magical trip. DTD is the place to be for fun!!:sohappy:

Buses ALWAYS stop at POFQ first. Some buses from POFQ won't go to POR and instead go directly to a park, which means there are some buses that also go ONLY to POR. But there's no such thing as buses that start at POR and go to POFQ ...

...EXCEPT for buses that go to DTD. DTD buses start at POR, then stop at PFOQ before going to DTD.

I wanted to stay at FQ, but there are no AP rates for next weekend.

I really don't care about the food court. We bring Pop Tarts and such to get us going... and will probably be eating at every food cart we see at the parks.

Thats exactly why we are choosing to stay here again! As well as the "internal bus" they have. ;)
