What's with all the hate for Space MOuntain?

I don't understand all the hate for Space Mountain. I think everything about it is perfect and should remain untouched. When you walk up to it and the great queue. I understand people say it's dark and really builds up to the ride from the star pictures and quiet erie music. Then the actual ride is great, is fast, fun and feels a little dangerous to keep it thrilling. Finally the end queue with the whole "one day you might be expirencing an off world expirence" or something to that extent. It really goes with that old science fiction theme of tomorrland and think it's wonderful. Then again this is coming from somebody who's favorite land is Tomorrowland from the neon blue lights and beautiful rock formations to the mechanical trees. I love it, but I do hate stich and am scared that the Laugh Floor could dimish the land even more but I have hope it won't. Thoughts?

I don't hate Space Mountain.
I just find it rougher than it needs to be.

It can be exciting without the need to jar you into the restraints and jerk your neck muscles.

Yep...I hate what Space Mountain has become.
Old. Creaky. Outdated effects. Neglected post-show.

There are 5 Space Mountains around the world. WDW's is the oldest, least well maintained, and most outdated. It's past time for a major refurbishment to bring the ride into the 21st century. To make the ride regain it's status as the worlds top themed-coaster experience.

huntzilla, have you had the opportunity to ride Space Mountain in DL recently? If not, then you will see why everyone wants it refurbed. The new Space Mountain is amazing! It puts the one at DW to shame.

What's with all the hate, part II

I don't understand all the hate for Stitch's Great Escape. I grow so tired of people starting a thread about one thing and then someone getting in that "I hate Stitch" comment somewhere.
I don't think I'll hate Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, either. I don't agree with its location, but that's a subject for another thread.
Finally, while I don't hate Space Mountain at Disney World, neither do I love it. You're right - the queue is incredible, as is the post-show. But Lee described the ride itself best. I would add only thing - it's too jerky. If any attraction at Disney World could give a person whiplash, this is it. Smooth that puppy out, add the onboard audio (not the freakin' Red Hot Chili Peppers, though), and things would be 1000% better. Still, it reminds me a lot of the Matterhorn, and I enjoy that attraction...but then it has an abominable snowman.

When, by chance, is the author of the post's last time riding said WDW Space Mountain? And has he seen what Hong Kong, Paris, and Anaheim have to offer/improve?

who wants everypark and every ride to be exactly the same?
what be be the point in that, dl paris has a new space mountain ride, similar to rnrc at mgm, with neon planets etc,and its a fantastic ride, but i wouldnt want it to replace wdw one, it has charm, yes it is rickerty and the preride stuff should be updated but not the ride itself. but its still a great ride and the bumpiness of it adds to the thrill...i think

And if you sit in the very front, you have the whole - OMG, I'm going to fall out and die feeling!!! :lookaroun

Gotta love it.

We do need to remember, it was the first however, and most of the time later versions (DL, TDL, DLP, HKDL) do improve - although with Pirates of the Caribbean, Fantasmic and Motors Action - we know this is not always the case.

WDW's layout is different; therefore, they could replace the track with a smoother, better ride and still maintain its uniqueness.

I wouddn`t call it hate.... more resentment for how it`s been left.

A preshow that has elements from all previous versions, but no coherent theme

Cars that are still to all appearences a 4-man bob ride

Track that isn`t the smoothest journey through the cosmos

Visual effects still stuck in 1973

A lack of any coherent audio through the attraction; even with no onride audio RCA/GE made a better job of it in 1975!

A post show that is such a mixture of RYCA-1, FX-1 and nothing there is again no clear message.

A building that is classed along with SSE as an engineering marvel, yet has so many wasted opportunities. MNSSHP has shown what a little exterior lighting effects can do.

I don't mind the ride system so much...but eveyone is right about the theming. It really needs to be changed so that there is a coherent theme and the audio REALLY needs a good upgrade.

Respectfully, I don't think that's what is being asked for. I think it would stink if each of the parks were simply clones of each other. But WDW's Space is showing its age, and we all know that vast improvements could be made on the ride system and show effects because we've seen them do it elsewhere to great applause. I do believe that since DL got so much TLC for it's 50th, more attention will be turned to MK now to get her up to speed with her global counterparts.

I love SM, but I have not been to WDW since '99, so perhaps it does need a little tweaking and polishing, but I wouldn't want the main theme of the rollercoaster ride in space to be changed. :sohappy:

As a matter of fact there is nothing that I dislike (hate is too strong a word) at WDW. I did not care for Alien Encounter, that scared the bejeezus out of me. But I guess that was the effect the imagineers were going for when they created it.

Yea I don't get all the animosity towards WDW's Space Mountain. I know DL's just got a rehab, but WDW's isn't in that bad a shape. I rode it in June and thought it was the best ride on it I have had in years, and my dad was on it in November and agreed with me.

Its well maintained. It goes down because of outdated parts and there is no way to really fix most downtimes. I do agree it needs a full upgrade on the ride system.
