Disney/Universal: The Disney Difference

Is this thread really necessary? It's just going to be arguments going back and forth, that we've all heard a million times. Both places are great and I always spend a day or two at Universal when I'm in Orlando. It just blows me away that there are so many disneyphiles, and I am one myself, who have such a bad opinion of Universal and don't go because it doesn't have that Disney "magic". Yes, it doesn't, but they are 2 really good theme parks that you can't find anywhere else, why be so picky or close-minded? I guess it just means a less-crowded experience for myself.

Universal is not Disney, but it's wayyyy above Six Flags.

I think that having Universal down the road has been good for Disney guests. Competition is good. But I think that it's not been good for Universal. In another place US/IOA would be a great park with lots of guests planning their trips just to visit there. But in Orlando I would imagine that it's more of a "since we're here anyway..." type thing.

I like amusement parks. I've visted several, Six Flags over Georgia, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Kings Dominion and Carowinds in the last few years. During the same span I've been to WDW ten times and never cared to go to Universal. Nothing against Universal, just that from everything I've heard it's pretty much your average amusement park.

Disney builds THEME parks, and for me that is the difference.

Believe it or not, you can actually find people who would much rather visit a Universal park instead WDW. Just yesterday I overheard a group of guys complaining that Disney is for kids while on the tram to AK. Different strokes for different folks. I'm just happy there are different kinds of parks for me to enjoy.

Ok, so here's my story if you like it or not. I truly love WDW, i live in Canada so there is the EX and Wonderland, but I just can't bring myself to go to anyother theme park than WDW. I'd rather go to WDW than any other park. Disney just has so much magic and it's perfect. Unviersal is more like Roller Coasters than hotel hopping or shopping.

There's my opinion which is this: I can't go to any other theme park but WDW.

For those who go on and on and on about the roller coasters at Universal Orlando....

Universal Studios Florida: Revenge of the Mummy, Woody Woodpecker's Nuthouse Coaster [2]
Islands of Adventure: Incredible Hulk Coaster, The Flying Unicorn, Dueling Dragons (Fire & Ice) [4]
TOTAL: 6

Magic Kingdom: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, The Barnstormer @ Goofy's Wiseacre Farm, Space Mountain (could even say this counts as two like DD @ IOA does with two tracks) [3]
Disney-MGM Studios: Rock 'n Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith [1]
Disney's Animal Kingdom: Expedition Everest [1]
TOTAL: 5

Wow....ONE MORE COASTER! UO is definitely a Six Flags-style "amusement park" (as you all like to call it) destination now!

MKT, why do you feel like you have to grouse every minute?!

You really ARE a bitter b******.

HEY, you can't say that about Rob!

He definitely doesn't grouse every MINUTE. :lookaroun

But seriously, folks...Rob has been on the inside and knows how the machine works. He still loves Disney, but with an eye toward realism. Nothing wrong with that.

Guys, lets keep this civil and well mannered. It doesnt need to turn into a fist fight. THanks.

HEY, you can't say that about Rob!

Oh, yes I can. His flamed me constantly for several years!

He definitely doesn't grouse every MINUTE. :lookaround

Once again, I beg to differ.

But seriously, folks...Rob has been on the inside and knows how the machine works.

He used to be on the inside, but not anymore!

He still loves Disney, but with an eye toward realism. Nothing wrong with that.

I disagree. Besides, I think that he deserved to be fired...and the firing is the reason why he's so hateful and critical of Disney now.

Plus Primeval Whirl :lookaroun

I don't see where this was posted anywhere in the thread

I think they misunderstood Rob's comment on Disney spending money poorly.
