Since you guys were all talking about the holidays, and traditions last night, I thought we could all fill out this meme to learn some stuff about each other...

i just thought it would be fun...

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Egg nog, but only up until Christmas. After that, and for the rest of winter, it’s Hot Chocolate all the way.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Wrapped. What a bummer it would be to come down and have half the fun of Christmas taken away. Ripping or cutting the paper is a big part of Christmas!

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
Colored. Indoors and out. But if we had enough of a roof, I’d love to put up those white icicle lights.

4. Do you hang mistletoe?
No. Poisonous to the kitties. I might look into getting some plastic mistletoe though… it’s one of Marc’s favorite Christmas traditions.

5. When do you put your decorations up?
Black Friday, or the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
Mushroom Barley Soup

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child?
Waiting on the stairs until I was given the go-ahead from Mommy that I could come down. I wasn’t allowed to see the tree and the presents until the video camera was set up. Those moments of joyful anticipation were wonderful, and hard to re-capture.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
My friend Sarah showed me where her parents kept all their presents hidden, thus attempting to expose the truth. However I flat-out refused to believe her, and even though I gradually began to accept the truth over the years, I still liked to follow the charade of the cookies and opening the damper.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Our shaking presents.

10. What kind of cookies does Santa get set out for him?
Most of the time it was chocolate chip, or, if we had them, sugar cookies. Actually I remember pawning off lots of sugar cookies on Santa because I liked the chocolate chip ones better. And of course we left out carrots for the reindeer (all of them, not just that fame- Rudolf) and a piece of cheese for the Christmas Mouse.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
Love it when I don’t have to go out in it. Which is a lot, since I refuse to drive in the slightest precipitation.

12. Can you ice skate?
Yes, but nothing fancier than a figure-8.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift as a child?
A battery-operated microwave that made zapping noises, so I could cook all of my pretend food, and a coffee pot that let you “brew” coffee with real water.

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
Family. Home. Traditions.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?
Gingerbread men

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Our Polish Christmas Eve dinner. Some years we go all out, some years we tone it down, but I still love looking for the Christmas Star. Once you saw it, then you could officially eat.

17. What tops your tree?
A lighted star.

18. Which do you prefer Giving or Receiving?
Mostly giving. I usually buy myself what I want anyways, since I’m apparently a hard person to shop for.

19. What is your favorite Christmas Carol?
Hark! The Herald Angels Sing

20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum?
Fresh Candy Canes are so-so. Give me a stale one that’s gotten chewy… mmmmm.

21. What’s the one gift that you wanted, but never received as a child?
The My Little Pony Paradise Estate. Asked for it for 9 consecutive years. Never got it. However somehow I ended up with a Barbie dream house, and my ponies made use of that. The Barbies were left homeless and naked on the floor.

Middle school is tough these days... Kids younger and younger are feeling stress... it's sad.

Well, I'm glad her test was normal!

I just don't want her to start hating school like me son did. He didn't want to go to college because he hated it so much. Now all he can get is dish washing jobs. I want so much more for my kids.

Both kids have put us through this, but it doesn't get any easier. I think as parents, especially moms, we want so badly to protect them, but some lessons just have to be learned the hard way. Right now they both seem to have a good head on their shoulders, so I guess we're doing something right.

*sigh* Well that's not much fun to think about... lol I hope and pray lizzy keeps her wits about her when it comes to boys... you know... after she turns 30 and all. :lookaroun ;)

Same here. It took time and a good bit of anguish for George and me, but they ultimately learned how to make better choices. As I've told our ISons in the past, teen girls. . . even the smartest of them. . .really don't know what they want when it comes to boys. For whatever reason the bad boy has the most appeal. . .till the girls finally learn that a boy who treats you well and shares your outlook and interests is worth a thousand pretty faces.

never have truer words been spoken Dot... *sigh*

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Hot Chocolate!

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Santa (and mom) wraps EVERYTHING. Even candy. There is not a single thing left unwrapped be it gifts or stocking stuffers. Even magazines get wrapped.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
White... though I may do colored this year for lizzy.. I just have this thing for white lights....

4. Do you hang mistletoe?
Nope. That's asking for trouble with 2 teenage boys in the house. We never did mistletoe...

5. When do you put your decorations up?
In past years my decorations would already be up. Usually first week of November.... but... since we're moving at the end of the month I'm waiting... and it's KILLING me. LOL

6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
Waldorf Salad. or Pretzel Jumbles

(i'm coppying bunny as that was exactly what i was going to say) :D

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
I never believed in Santa. Never ever. Daddy was our santa. He'd tease us and tell us not to tell anyone... and every christmas eve after we were in bed... he'd walk by our door and jingle the bells and say "Santa's getting to work now, any potty breaks? Cause your stuck in here til mornining now!" my sister and i would laugh and laugh... and then eventually we realized that daddy wasn't really santa... just... our santa. :)

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Yes. PJ's It's tradition, so everyone looks festive on Christmas morning... mom always got the whole family Christmas PJ's.

And we open the kids gifts to each other... namely b/c it was always small things, and mom wanted it to be special and not get lost in the midst of all the big stuff on Christmas morning.

10. What kind of cookies does Santa get set out for him?
None.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
Love it... for about 1 week... then... *thank God i live in the south* ;)

12. Can you ice skate?
Yes, a tiny bit. Not well though.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift as a child?
My Lisa Frank Sticker collection. It was heaven on earth that Christmas. ;)

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
Family. Home. Traditions. (ditto to bunny) :)

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Our Thanksgiving Christmas party with all my extended family, the saturday after Thanksgiving. I miss them all so much, I love that celebration.

17. What tops your tree?
My angel broke last year... so I'm not sure... i'd like a pretty star I think.

18. Which do you prefer Giving or Receiving?
Giving for sure. I LOVE christmas shopping.

19. What is your favorite Christmas Carol?
Silent Night.

20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum?
YUMMY!!!!

21. What’s the one gift that you wanted, but never received as a child?
Hmm... It was never about the gifts for us... which sounds silly i know... but my family always celebrated the birth of Jesus first and foremost... so we never asked for any gifts. Ever. It was always a suprise from daddy and mama... we never made lists or anything. Mom just paid attention to our likes and dislikes and shopped accordingly.

(this was so fun bunny! thanks!)

So hard.
You learn to keep your mouth shut and wait. . .
Hoping that they'll outgrow it and move on. . . without getting hurt.

I'm sure you've been through it too, but it's so hard to watch them totally enamoured with someone that you know isn't the right one, knowing full well that you can't tell them that...

Trust me...it's not just parents that have that problem...right now, not one of my friends (nor I) can stand our one best friend's boyfriend. He is so not right for her, but there is absolutely nothing we can do. We've all told her that...and you wouldn't believe the number of times they've almost broken up...but one year down and they are still together! :brick:

Since you guys were all talking about the holidays, and traditions last night, I thought we could all fill out this meme to learn some stuff about each other...

Hi Bunny!
Missed you!
Thanks for the "Christmas Quiz". . .looks like fun.

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Egg nog during Christmas week only. Hot Chocolate the rest of the winter.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Wrapped! Unwrapping is huge fun!

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
White. But I'm starting to like the idea of a little color. Maybe sometime in the future. . .

4. Do you hang mistletoe?
I've got some plastic mistletoe I hang in the kitchen archway. Fun! ;)

5. When do you put your decorations up?
Black Friday, or the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
Turkey and stuffing.

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child?
My dad was really big on decorations, and for many years he and I would walk the neighborhood for hours at a time, just looking at the displays. When we were sure we saw everything within walking distance, we'd have an evening of driving out to the more ritzy neighborhoods to see their decorations. I still love doing that. I wish Dad was still here to share it.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
I don't remember my own discovery of the truth, but I remember Lauren taking me completely off-guard one evening when she was about 7. I can still see her standing on the stairs:
Lauren: Mom, today at school Tina told me there's no such thing as Santa. She said Moms and Dads buy all the presents.
Me: Well. . .*tried desperately to come up with something quick. Failed.*
Lauren: (taking in my panic) I knew it! I can't believe this! (she stood on the stair with foot tapping, hands on hips and a fierce glare for Mom) I guess now you're gonna tell me there's no Tooth Fairy or Easter Bunny either!
Me: (Well, I don't remember what I said but I remember the definite feeling that something very special had come to an end. I still feel it.)

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
We had a tradition of doing that when the kids were still at home. I'd usually pick out the ones I wanted them to open. Saving the best for Christmas morning.

10. What kind of cookies does Santa get set out for him?
Butter cookies! And milk!

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
I think everyone knows my answer to this!
But a light dusting on Christmas Eve would be oh so nice!

12. Can you ice skate?
No.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift as a child?
When I was about 6, Crayola came out with the most amazing box of crayons! It was a flat box with the crayons lined up in 2 rows. There were 96 crayons, with 4 each of blue and red. And a sharpener. I know I received more expensive gifts that year, but oh I loved those crayons!

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
Family, for sure. It's always been all about that.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?
Cookies!

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Christmas morning. . .I was always the first one up. I'd turn on all the Christmas lights and put on our favorite Christmas music. As soon as the girls would hear the music playing softly, they knew I was on my way in to get them up. They'd never come down on their own. . .they'd always wait for me. Then we'd get George and, over a little pound cake and coffee, we'd open our gifts. It was always the same, till Stacey left home 2 years ago. Now we do it when the girls arrive here on Christmas morning. Not quite the same, but it's still so special since it's just the 4 of us.

17. What tops your tree?
Was a lighted star for all the years we lived in our house. Somehow it got lost in the move. We have an angel now.

18. Which do you prefer Giving or Receiving?
There is nothing that compares to the feeling of watching someone open a gift that you know they're gonna love!

19. What is your favorite Christmas Carol?
Silent Night.

20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum?
Yum!

21. What’s the one gift that you wanted, but never received as a child?
A bike. Outside of the tricycle I got when I was 4, I never got a bike.
