Since you guys were all talking about the holidays, and traditions last night, I thought we could all fill out this meme to learn some stuff about each other...
i just thought it would be fun...
1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Egg nog, but only up until Christmas. After that, and for the rest of winter, it’s Hot Chocolate all the way.
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Wrapped. What a bummer it would be to come down and have half the fun of Christmas taken away. Ripping or cutting the paper is a big part of Christmas!
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
Colored. Indoors and out. But if we had enough of a roof, I’d love to put up those white icicle lights.
4. Do you hang mistletoe?
No. Poisonous to the kitties. I might look into getting some plastic mistletoe though… it’s one of Marc’s favorite Christmas traditions.
5. When do you put your decorations up?
Black Friday, or the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
Mushroom Barley Soup
7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child?
Waiting on the stairs until I was given the go-ahead from Mommy that I could come down. I wasn’t allowed to see the tree and the presents until the video camera was set up. Those moments of joyful anticipation were wonderful, and hard to re-capture.
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
My friend Sarah showed me where her parents kept all their presents hidden, thus attempting to expose the truth. However I flat-out refused to believe her, and even though I gradually began to accept the truth over the years, I still liked to follow the charade of the cookies and opening the damper.
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Our shaking presents.
10. What kind of cookies does Santa get set out for him?
Most of the time it was chocolate chip, or, if we had them, sugar cookies. Actually I remember pawning off lots of sugar cookies on Santa because I liked the chocolate chip ones better. And of course we left out carrots for the reindeer (all of them, not just that fame- Rudolf) and a piece of cheese for the Christmas Mouse.
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
Love it when I don’t have to go out in it. Which is a lot, since I refuse to drive in the slightest precipitation.
12. Can you ice skate?
Yes, but nothing fancier than a figure-8.
13. Do you remember your favorite gift as a child?
A battery-operated microwave that made zapping noises, so I could cook all of my pretend food, and a coffee pot that let you “brew” coffee with real water.
14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
Family. Home. Traditions.
15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?
Gingerbread men
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Our Polish Christmas Eve dinner. Some years we go all out, some years we tone it down, but I still love looking for the Christmas Star. Once you saw it, then you could officially eat.
17. What tops your tree?
A lighted star.
18. Which do you prefer Giving or Receiving?
Mostly giving. I usually buy myself what I want anyways, since I’m apparently a hard person to shop for.
19. What is your favorite Christmas Carol?
Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum?
Fresh Candy Canes are so-so. Give me a stale one that’s gotten chewy… mmmmm.
21. What’s the one gift that you wanted, but never received as a child?
The My Little Pony Paradise Estate. Asked for it for 9 consecutive years. Never got it. However somehow I ended up with a Barbie dream house, and my ponies made use of that. The Barbies were left homeless and naked on the floor.
