Yeah, Disney did that alot in the 70s and 80s when animation was in its downfall. The whole "Prince John the first" musical number in Robin Hood uses countless shots from other Disney movies.

Bambi's animation has been re-used more times than any other movie's. If I remember correctly, Bambi's mother can even be seen in Beauty and the Beast (foggy recollection from the Disney Store background loop).

Hmm, where is the line between "using old cells for motion reference" and "resusing animation"?
The Robin Hood / Snow White reuse definitely falls in the former category.

The Snow White / Robin Hood scene was animated by Don Bluth (Who is famous for Dragons Lair, Space Ace (video games), Secret of Nimh...etc.)

Disney would re-use scenes to try and cut costs, but it had, as far as I know, never been used to that extent. Milt Kahl was very upset when Disney started reusing scenes and publicly chastised Bluth for reusing the scene to that extent. Kahl felt that it showed a lack of creativity and eventually his feeling on the subject created a divide amongst himself and some of the younger guys (including Bluth). During a training session that Milt was giving, Bluth got fed up and walked out on him. He then moved onto creating video games and his own films, such as the still quite amazing Secret of NIMH (the first major feature to show that not only Disney was capable of creating top notch animation.)

Interesting but....

This is nothing new. I took an Disney Animation class two years ago and since animation began companies, films, shorts and scenes often copied frames and other elements from each other. This trend dates back to the first animated films ever. Gertie the dinosaur did something similar where they would loop frames.

It's not even unique to the animation -- Disney has ALWAYS done this in their live-action movies...most recently, the opening sequence in EIGHT BELOW uses the exact same stock footage Disney has shown for years in CIRCLE OF LIFE at Epcot of the penguins diving into the water.

Don't forget the last scene of "Beauty and the Beast" uses the same last dancing scene from "Sleeping Beauty," with only a few tweaks to some characters, so its not only crappy movies that do this.

I understand what they're saying in that its the exact same animated movements, but what I am confused about is how is it cheaper? I mean, dont they still have to draw it out and put on the different cells and clothing on the characters? Ive noticed this alot with many , if not all, of the movies from the 70s.

They don't have to do it from scratch and that saves a lot of time.
