EPCOT Figment, well, to be replaced by Figment

I highly doubt they are changing the track layout no matter what happens.
Good thing is, as I mentioned before. Most of that is infact the original track layout if you look. The other parts (the original intro scene & film finale) were simply covered up with hollow flooring. Remove that, do some TLC/repairs. Voila. All fixed, 100% worth the investment.

I don't expect today's money grubbing and history blinded Disney Company to realize that.

they will either reuse the track in place now as it is,,,,or uncover the original and use it as well,,,,,or fully gut it down to dirt.....or demolish the entire building. I am sure all the above have been discussed and probably continuing to be discussed. In our minds we think it costs them less to reuse it how it is, but lately they have been on a gut and rip out or demolish new build firestorm, except for dinosaur, will see. If they think they can get major LL revenue thats all that matters anymore to the bean counters.

Alright guys, here are my thoughts. First thing’s first, the good: LOVE, LOVE the fact that they went with Figment’s classic design and I think he’s beautifully, Beautifully animated here. It’s the best we’ve seen Figment look & animate in decades. This is how he should look & animate in ‘everything’ going forward, regarding appearances and media. I also like that, thanks to the format of the show, it’s based on drawing, a medium best suited for creativity. Also love the Dreamcatching machine reference at the end, a great touch!

But.. unfortunately.. there are still some problems here for the eagle eyed fan in regards to the way the creative process is being described here. It’s a bit mixed-up. A spark of inspiration does indeed come from anywhere, love the fact that was touched upon. But if the theme is supposed to be creativity and coming up with new ideas. How does pretending something is what it isn’t doing that effectively? It was far more effective when it was little sparks of inspiration being collected and then recombining them together to create new things, and it should be for this video how that creativity flourishes in the medium we’re dealing with here, “drawing/art”. How does an octopus and a sailboat compliment drawing or improve creative abilities in art? It should be color (a rainbow of colors to ‘paint’ with), lines and shapes to improve the drawing, etc, to create whatever it is. Basically, the focus is is the wrong place. That or there’s a core misunderstanding, the ideas thought up are supposed to compliment whatever medium is being discussed/showcased. And the end result should be after the process is done. It’s implementing real world ideas & concepts, presented in a creative, whimsical manner, to showcase ‘how’ that came to be. Not seeing something and pretending its something else. (btw, how is “the canvas filled” by the end, when the sailboat & octopus Figment described aren’t there on the final art piece??).
Also, if we were using Dreamfinder’s Dreamcatching Machine, then Dreamfinder should be there flying it, IMO. (And no.. it’s not “a plane” as our artist described it.. it’s a blimp 👀🤨)
If they honestly insisted not to use Dreamfinder, our artist should’ve drawn it up and then explained to Figment (Figment’s supposed to be, in essence, the same role as us the viewer (or rider), how the machine is like our brain, it goes around, collecting a bunch of abstract ideas (sparks of inspiration) then we recombine them to create brand new things. We should’ve described that process at the beginning and ‘then’ created Figment (like the og ride), using the ideas with the machine (as an example of how our brain creates new ideas), as he’s supposed to be an example of the end result of the process described, aswell as our own wonderment & curiosity. He’s the pure embodiment of both. Then we should’ve created more, using that same process, and what we learn about drawing & creativity within it. We’re learning what creativity is from our mentor (Dreamfinder, or in this case here, it should be the artist), Figment is in our role. That’s why we identify w him so much.

And getting to Figment’s voice.. again, I’ve discussed this issue before. Both Dave & A.J. consistently overcompensate the high pitch of Figment’s voice by shouting. Which makes him sound more like Woody Woodpecker than Figment. Which Billy Barty didn’t do. He spoke softly but still exuberantly when it called for it, he’s inquisitive & curious and wants to learn & try his hand at what’s being described to him. Corey Burton understood all of this I feel, when you listen to his performance of the character in the first ‘99-01 redo, Journey Into >Your Imagination’s queue video clips. (It’s a mix of both his new performance and archival audio of Billy). Just sadly he was never utilized again for some strange reason. No idea if A.J.’s current performance is simply a matter of not picking good enough takes or not really understanding the way he’s supposed to be performed/the way he should sound cause he’s not being directed correctly. But yeah..
So close, yet still far. The ‘brand new’ 2024 Little Golden Book and YouTube POVs of the original are right there to use for reference to get this spot on. Really hoping we can get this tweaked in future appearances. We’re getting there, really close. But we still need a little work to get it up to the standard it should be at.

Figment’s design is perfectly on-model, except for the feet pads not being dark purple
His feet pads are the correct pink color actually. That’s what they were originally until they got changed to orange then dark purple for whatever reason. Glad they changed it back to the right color. (His stomach is pink, so the feet pads match that)

It’s very inconsistent, but I have found artwork before from the 90’s with it dark purple.

It’s a shame there’s no credits on these as I wish we knew who animated Figment here ,cause again, it’s truly some beautiful work. Some of the best I’ve seen out of DTVA in a good while actually. Is it the artist heard in the videos I wonder? Curious, as I’d love to see the rest of their work.

Then it seems the timeline was pink, then dark purple, then orange. But again, I for one am extremely happy they went back to the original design, color scheme and all. That’s something you don’t see DTVA do often; but I was pleasantly surprised to see they did here with Figment. 💜 The animation here is top notch, near feature animation quality. (Just like the animation you saw in the OG realm of Science scene in the ride (done by Feature Animation in Burbank) & the Mirage activity in the early 90s redo of ImageWorks (done by Feature Animation Florida). Exactly at the level it should be at.

To put it more simply, it’s not ‘just’ about inspiration leading to new ideas. It’s how gathering those sparks of inspiration and then recombining them together to create new things compliments the medium it’s being used in.

If you watch the original Art scene of the ride (it’s also referenced & shown in the little golden book). The song’s lyrics are 🎶Mix red and gold from Autumn flowers, purple and blue from twilight hours, green summer hills and rainbow play a part. A painter’s brush a work of art!🎶. And as you hear those lyrics, you’re seeing Figment wearing a rainbow colored artists’ apron, mixing the very things being sung about together to create new paint and color. The paint’s flowing into a jar, and Dreamfinder’s also dressed fully as an artist, painting w a large paint brush on a large display.. which expands into a whole whimsical wonderland of art, made from paper machete sculptures being painted & brought to life with that color, you also see Figment is now wearing an artist’s beret & tie, holding that jar of color and he’s opening the jar to release the rainbow of color springing from it, coloring the rest of the room, on a ledge near a rainbow/color changing pond. As you can see, all the elements fit together coherently w intention & purpose, in whatever realm we journeyed into, in this case, that fit a realm of art.

Watch the original ride scenes carefully and pay attention to the dialogue and song lyrics. The opening scene is also the prologue that not only showcases what the process is (the Dreamcatching machine (an analogy for our brain) collecting and recombining pre-existing sparks of inspiration to create new things, creating Figment to demonstrate the process infront of us) but then both Dreamfinder & Figment coming up w the concepts that form & compliment the rest of the Journey (Art, Literature, Theatre, Science & Technology, & Film). :

Neil Pateick Harris was the animator in the video. I know he's a Disney Parks Fan, but is it weird that he would appear in a video like this as just his voice? Feels.like he's a big name to get for a little YouTube video?
Perhaps he really wanted to do it. No problem w that. He ‘is’ a fan. I’d rather a fan be directly involved than someone that isn’t.

This is a charming little tribute to the original spirit of this character, and his former Attraction.

Another confirmation that people within Disney are well aware of this spirit, and yet still do absolutely nothing with the current Attraction or Pavilion.

Pretty sure its a lot easier to get approval for a 2 minute Youtube video then it is to get the funding for a whole attraction, especially with so many stuff in development at one resort right now

How about NPH as our new Dreamfinder in a potential movie or ride refurb? I could be open to that.
