Tiana's Bayou Adventure Effects Status Watch

This attraction honestly feels cursed. Like, has ANY other attraction had this much in the way of problems during its first two years of operation?
He'd be perfectly safe, as slapping him would require Naveen to do something, and we can't have that on this ride
Maybe Mama Odie could shrink him down to the size of a frog? She's the only character in the attraction who does anything at all. Even Tiana is basically just reduced to standing around flailing her arms.

Isn't the whole reason Disney uses screens more than animatronics nowadays that they're cheaper or easier to maintain or whatever? Yeah...
Yes, but in their defense or if you ask me condemnation) we know that MAPO isn't building these in house anymore so the blame can be assigned to Garner Holt.

I still can't get over the fact that the "Imagineers" thought Swaying Ocra was a worthy show scene. It does work most of the time though so kudos for that. This will forever go down as a bizzaroverse ride like something conceived in a half asleep dream sequence that turns into a nightmare prior to waking up.

I can't decide which is worse... the attraction itself or the maintaining of it.

Aight, I’m reviving this thread because I want to talk a bit. For whatever reason, Anaheim’s TBA has next to none of the issues we have down here. I don’t know if we’re doing something wrong that Anaheim isn’t, or it has to do with Climate and Weather, but Tiana’s looks much much better in California, every other possible story issue aside.
Maintenance at DL is much better than maintenance for WDW and it has always been that way since probably the 2000s...

...I imagine it has to do with less things to actually maintain over there. WDW is so freaking huge I imagine Disney is spread extremely thin on maintenance talent/workers. Amidst all the attractions, animatronics, effects, restaurants, parades, fixtures, ect. Ect. Ect. Across just the parks.... not including the resorts, disney springs, and everything in between as well.

Thats just an educated guess, though.

Ride needs to go down after BTM to fix this. I love this ride and the state its in is just depressing. On my last ride through all of the animatronics were atleast working but almost none of the mouths were moving? Disney. Why is this happpening? Frozen has been up for YEARS with a similar class of animatronic in a boat ride. No major issues. Shaman is usually working fairly consistently. (I've never seen the B mode myself). The ride should go down for maintenance and just fix the issues with it. (I realize why that's not a good idea right this moment and I think that with BTM, they didn't want to close every major ride in Frontierland). Luckily, Frontierland is getting a brand new major ride and BTM is returning this year. You guys listened with Frozen, Buzz, etc, etc. Give Tiana the respect she deserves.

While you're at it, how about some of those "plusses" that a lot of other rides have gotten recently. (Even Remy's is getting them). Put in some new dancing animal animatronics in the in between parts. I'm one of the people who finds the story good for Tiana's no need to really change it. (I would like a Halloween overlay though that adds Dr Facilier as a shadow to some of the areas including the lift hill which I'm guessing would be so beloved by fans it would probably be turned into the actual version of the ride ;) )

It is inexcusable this ride is in this state this soon after its construction, but I don’t think it’s merely maintenance. Plus, even when all those things are working it’s a narrative and pacing mess. God bless whoever is tasked with fixing this, eventually.

I think narratively, it's fine. It's a bit simple of a story and I would prefer to have some things changed up but it works okay.

Disneyland is apparently not having the same issues so I'm not even sure what it is specifcally. Replace ours with whatever they did for Disneyland if they have to but these animatronics should not keep being down so often.
Luckily for story, atleast from what I think they can easily fix it by changing a few key guidelines.

1. Keep everything pretty much the same up until the scene where you're made small. I would add in some projections on the screen and in certain areas of Dr Facilier's shadow from the movie. Dr Facilier is dead still but I would have his shadow be "let out" to take its revenge.

2. When you're made tiny, I would change it so that Dr Facilier's shadow is above you, cackling with his voice seemingly echoing and coming from everywhere. He'll mention that he will see you on the Other Side as you're splashed down into the same cave. At first, in the "empty" parts of the cave, you can hear Tiana and Louis looking for you. Same scene essentially plays out with the frogs inside but Tiana and Louis appear on screen still looking for you. They realize that you shrunk somehow and they need to find Mama Oodie to turn you back. The Shadow appears behind them, laughing again as a large shadow hand stretches out near the ride vehicle.

3. The ride turns into the big lift hill with the Shadow Man laughing above you, magic swirling around him before ducking down from a blast of light. Of course, as everyone kinda wanted "Friends on the Other Side" plays. The lift hill is now a projected fight as the Shadow swirls around the area, dodging Mama Oodie's blasts of light from the movie. Mama Oodie is still seen and she mentions that she will make you big again and to hurry down to the party since she's got this.

That's how I would personally change it on a reasonable budget. It's mostly changing out projections and still keeps the story without the connotations of voodoo that they were trying to avoid.

Remember when you were a kid and your mom or dad said “See, you should’ve left things well enough alone?”
I’m gonna let the millennials and Gen Z’ers in on a little secret…MOST times, parents know MORE than the kids…there were sooooo many AA’s on Splash, if one or two weren’t working (or in B mode), it wasn’t as painfully obvious as it is now…

Yeah but Splash inherently had to go. It never should have been based on that particular movie not to get into it here. I think they should have reused the animals overall though. No reason reason all of them had to go.
