Transformative Multi-Year Expansion Announced for WDS Paris

This land looks amazing and it’s probably the best thing that imagineering is doing right now

My only worry is it being too small. If we use only the village side of Hong Kong arendelle as a comparative land size example then the mini lands around the lake are going to be tiny. Since this isn’t a deep land like arendelle that goes straight back away from the lake I really hope it’s deep enough that you can get immersed in the land, not just feeling like a ride plopped right on the lake esplanade

I find it kind of odd that they'll spend so much on creating a world and then not add a couple flats to fill it out. I know it's ongoing vs one-off costs but it does feel like a bit of a wasted opportunity to go that extra 20% and create something that feels like a whole new mini-park rather than just one new attraction, surely that counts for something in marketing.

And they had one designed.

I think it's the same type of flat ride as Mater's Junkyard Jamboree - Oaken's Dancing Sleighs.

The ride was a concept for Hong Kong but they went with the kiddie coaster instead.

Though to be fair in Paris’s land the location of where wandering oaken’s dancing sleighs would have been isn’t even part of arendelle, it’s part of the expansion pad next door set aside for a land to stuff between arendelle and what they will eventually replace cars road trip with

The Paris lands seem designed to be too small

Well I wasn't saying that they could put it [Oaken's Dancing Sleighs in DAW] in the same place [as Oaken's Sliding Sleighs in Hong Kong]. The land is differently shaped at DAW. I just thought they could find space for it somewhere.

I figured that at the planning stage they could have found or made some space for it.

I mean everything besides the peninsula in Paris that is the forest area in Hong Kong they are 1 to 1 external copies of each other

I would have suggested putting it to the left of arendelle because that plot is in the weird situation where it’s too close to fit either land on its sides but still, arendelle is technically hemmed in by expansion plots on both sides especially because of the awkward shape of the harbour

I bet they'll at least consider putting in a themed flat ride somewhere if reception to the lane is just good, not great.

Honestly it’s kinda a catch 22 here, Paris will likely get the “good land not enough to do and too small why did we wait the longest to get the smallest of the three lands” but HK also got flak for trying to upscale its flat ride and make the land feel more well rounded

I think that land between Frozen and Lion King has some weird kind of zoning limit on it, where it's not allowed to be built on at the moment, but can't remember until when it can??

I know it’s excuse is its furthest away from the entrance on the opposite side of the lake but it seems strange to hem in their first land around the lake with planning limitations

I don't know the exact details but my generla understanding is the land can't be developed for X years and/or an equivalent area of land would need to be setaside for conservation elsewhere.

I think this just means it will be the last expansion plot used around the lake.

Interesting. That seems very strange to me as it was just a field and they seem to have put a berm with trees on it alongside the walkway anyway.

I remember hearing for years that forest in which the Studio Tour/Cars attraction is located was supposed to be protected, but then I have vague memories of someone saying that isn't actually true... which would make sense if they have already built an attraction in the forest.

Curiouser and curiouser!

I think with many of these things they are a rule until they don't want the rule to apply anymore and they find a way around it.

I'd imagine when they applied to redevelop this land for WDSP there was some comments about biodiversity so they said "well this plot we won't develop for 20 years" which made everyone happy and then in 20 years they've done what they said they were going to do and its fair game to redevelop.

Now we’ve been to HKs Frozen land (finally) and knowing it intimately, what’s being built in Paris is virtually identical.

We’re also glad they’re not building the sleds in Paris. It would be a nightmare atbguest relations with people queueing for what they got. We walked on twice and wouldn’t queue more than ten minutes; we chatted to another British family who did queue without knowing what it was and they didn’t speak well of it (the forum software would delete what they called it). It’s more like a walk through with a slide at the end to exit.

Lion King (and Frozen) will suffer if anything from today’s way of building one attraction with a shop and QS and calling it a land, when all they are is an attraction with a shop and QS. It’s akin to building Splash in Orlando in 1992 and calling it Bayou Land when it was just an expansion of Frontierland.

Yes. There is a covenant on that area. I forget the specifics though.
