For some, perhaps. But, it wasn’t the reason I watched the show and I suspect I’m not alone, particularly in my generation.
It got the evil “fanbase” approval because it had the homage to the originals…plain and simple.

That’s not the only reason…but it’s the key one.

Also of note was the stylistic choice…favreau doing the “old west” episodic kinda take was pretty great…and filoni going more return of the Jedi homage in Season two (including the 5 minutes everyone waited for for 4 decades) was an expansion of the appeal…

But the third season kinda went sideways and a lot of that was cutesy nonsense
What? Yeah, that’s not gonna happen.
But that would be a hoot 🦉

All we’re saying is that the sequels were focused on pandering to boomers at a level that was downright obnoxious for my generation. If they weren’t so focused on invoking the nostalgia of Star Wars “fans” every other minute, it could’ve had a more compelling story.

See Andor, and the man children online that whine about how “tHiS isN’t sTAr WArs!!!”

When GL told Howard, "remember, this is for 12 year old boys" I wanted to choke him

That mindset shows a monumental misunderstanding of what makes Star Wars popular.

Star Wars was the cool thing that adults liked which made kids think it's cool as well. They forgot that the coolest thing you can be to a little boy is older. When they see what the older people like, they like it as well.

When you make Star Wars product specifically for kids, you inherently make the product less cool. That's fine if you want to make cartoons, but if you do that with major projects like tent pole movies and TV shows, you are shooting yourself in the foot because the adults won't view it.

Disney needs to focus on making good Star Wars products for adults that can also be appropriate for kids to watch.

I think with the Star Wars products now you see them trying to offer different tracks.. It's not a singular thing. They are building paths for the young.. they are building paths for OG fans... building paths for the teen to 30 something.. etc.

To the larger point of Disney and boys.. I think this is simply a consequence of a major umbrella label. Disney didn't have a problem with boy content.. they had lots. But that content was kind of in the minority to all the other things associated with the brand. So when one said "disney" it brings many things to mind, and the boy cool elements are outnumbered.. and hence in the perception of others, not always going to land on the same "boy cool"... the viewer may land on "kiddie" or "princess" etc.

This is always going to be a problem the bigger the brand gets... it basically makes it difficult to make the conglomerate label easy to identify with a tight image. As time goes on, some images will dominate the 'first impression' response because of sheer scale or exposure (like... avengers).. but they will often shift as volumes and awareness shift (like Disney being associated with progressive stories these days).

Usually this is why companies keep brand names and not always try to flatten to one conglomerate identity.

Yes because the last I checked Gen Z thinks everything their parents like is "cool".

Gen Z aren't children.

Star Wars shouldn't focus content on what 6-12 year old boys like. If you make good content that the 16-40 year olds like then you will capture that kids audience as well if it's not rated too mature.

Well the younger Gen Z are still kids in my mind, including Gen Alpha that came after.

Anyways the point is still the same, the younger generations aren't typically thinking that what their parents like are "cool". In fact its usually the opposite, they usually try to avoid what their parents like.
