Well the younger Gen Z are still kids in my mind, including Gen Alpha that came after.

Anyways the point is still the same, the younger generations aren't typically thinking that what their parents like are "cool". In fact its usually the opposite, they usually try to avoid what their parents like.

Kids do tend to try to like what their older siblings like.

Siblings maybe, but I don't think I've ever met any kid (especially this younger generation) who actively likes what their parents do. In fact all you have to do is look all over social media and you can see how they actively flaunt how much they dislike what their parents like. That is this generation, they actively go in the opposite direction as their parents. That is who is trying to be marketed to by companies like Disney. And people wonder why Disney tried to do things differently with franchises that was counter to what previous generations liked.

Hulu has been number 2 for 3 of the past 4 years.
Disney+ was in the top 4 for 3 of the past 4 years.

He likes my games more than the modern stuff his friends play. And he took up my sport, tennis. And he likes the Muppets. And believe it or not, it was all on his own. My oldest daughter is the same way. So there's at least 2 out there.

Yup! My daughter has seen erasure multiple times with me. And they both went to the pet shop boys dream world concert they played at the theater back in what, January. It was funny, I got home one day, my son was in the shower blasting an obscure alphaville song, and I was like, where'd you get that? He dug through all my music. Fortunately or unfortunately, the next time erasure, pet shop boys, omd or Depeche mode come back, it's going to cost a whole lot more money. Lol

We've instilled in them, like what you like and don't worry what others think. And funny enough, it's usually what we like too.

You missed that whole retro thing where the 80s were cool again phase?
Or why kids still wear Vans.. and Tony Hawk is still a star.. NES 8bit is it's own style, etc.

I bet Kids probably do more with their parents these days than prior generations.. mainly because adults are still acting young and playing with their old themes much more than boring boomer parents did.

I work retail, and our Zoomer employees will pick New Wave more often than any other genre on our extensive playlist.

90s are popular too, but they argue amongst themselves over genres.

When someone turns on the Beatles, they groan. Motown is tolerated. Early 00s is seen as ‘tired’, which is painful to my Strokes-loving heart.

All we’re saying is that the sequels were focused on pandering to boomers at a level that was downright obnoxious for my generation. If they weren’t so focused on invoking the nostalgia of Star Wars “fans” every other minute, it could’ve had a more compelling story.

The hilarity is that the older crowd hated the movies for destroying what was put out by the originals. Honestly the movies in my mind went for the female viewing angle, then went kind of off the rails after the first and just had no real story telling.

Andor just didn't appeal to most. Whether it was people saying "This isn't Star Wars" or the casual fans who just found nothing interesting about the premise, it just wasn't there. Again, I'm not anywhere close to the industry (and really don't watch a ton of shows or movies), so I don't know the answers, but they definitely have some tough questions they really do need to ask internally.

A bad movie no matter what the franchise is still bad. It doesn't matter what "message", perspective, or music genre it contains none can alleviate a bad script, poor acting, sets or photography. Studios attempt to get potential customers to accept substandard products under the guise of the over arching franchise "story". Would you watch a pacifist John Wick or a Mission Impossible bake off ? Studios try it far too often and call it "enlightened new perspectives "

Episodes 7, 8, and 9.

They were designed to invoke the nostalgia of boomers throughout the film even if the boomers didn’t like the story.

Episode 7:

1. Han and Chewbacca’s return was designed for maximum nostalgia complete with “Chewie, we’re home.”
2. Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber was treated like some kind of sacred relic
3. Death Star 3.0, aka Starkiller Base
4. Cantina 2.0, Maz Kanata’s place mimicked the Mos Eisley Cantina
5. Han’s death mirrors Obi-WAN’s death in A New Hope

Episode 8:

1. The film revolved around “What happened to Luke?!!” throughout the entire film without giving new audiences a reason to care.
2. Yoda cameo throwback to Empire
3. Hoth 2.0, aka Crait.
4. Snoke’s chamber mirrored the Palpatine throne room scene in ROTJ

Episode 9:

1. Palpatine’s return was pure nostalgia bait for boomers
2. Endor and Death Star ruins
3. Lando cameo
4. Fleet of classic ships in the climax
5. Chewbacca medal

Bottom line: the nostalgia baiting was incredibly obvious, distracting, and annoying.
