Rumor Potential New Magic Kingdom Area Hotel

A report on the recent JHMP says land is being surveyed next to the canal which was (previously) intended for Liberty Bell and Tom Sawyer raft maintenance. It was suggested this would make a good spot for a potential new hotel that could be connected to Magic Kingdom similar to Grand Helios.
What is JHMP?

How bad are the backstage views from the rooms?
Its not really comparable to WDW, because you're used to seeing the backstage/unthemed/off property areas from all the hotels in the area. Disneyland Hotel and Pixar Pier Hotel are definitely worse at what you can see than GCH. And of course the neighboring hotels don't really care.

If you're in the wing towards Pixar Pier near Goofy's Sky School, you can see all the backstage areas down below you.

If you're on the side near Downtown Disney you can't really see much of anything (in terms of backstage). Also the area directly over the Grizzly Peak area completely faces the park, so you don't see much unless you're really looking to do so.

But if you're on the porte-cochere side of the hotel you're facing over Disneyland Drive, which means you're looking at a pretty busy normal city street (albeit with Pixar Pier Hotel and Disneyland Hotel in front of you). They do what they can to hide the street with trees.

That was me! And I have to thank our heavenly father Bioreconstruct for the photos.

I was talking with some Imagineers earlier this month. One of them mentioned that the opening of Helios at Epic got management to ask for another look at park-adjacent hotel projects. And that included the potental resort at the front of EPCOT, in the area currently occupied by the Bus Lot Staging and Bus Service Facility:

A few days later, one of my Central Florida commercial construction folks mentioned there was an unusual amount of survey activity in the area between the Grand Flo and the MK, roughly here:

Bioreconstruct provided images of the work area for Frontierland for context:

Bio also said that to the best of his knowledge, no land used for work areas has ever later been developed into a resort. So that's worth keeping in mind.

In looking at the MK photo from Bio:
  • The canal in the middle is the daytime home of the Electrical Water Pageant. I don't think that's going anywhere.
  • A hotel in the work area that's directly west of Adventureland would have views of show buildings and infrastructure. That's not ideal.
  • But the area north of that, near Frontierland, has potential.
So I don't think there are firm plans yet. But interest in the idea of a park-adjacent hotel.

If there aren't plans for something in the orange circled area then I am not sure why they would be re-routing Floridian way.

@lentesta what is that work being done next to Adventureland/Frontierland?

IMO, that strip behind the Big Thunder and Liberty Belle maintenance areas makes more sense to eventually be an additional land. It could bridge the gap between the Adventureland expansion pad and Frontierland station since those would’ve already cleared the train tracks. If you were to build more park there, it could also be constructed with good show angles to the northwest, mitigating views of the maintenance area for a hotel to be built on the opposite side of the Floridian roads instead.

Right???!?

That's the same reason why I suspect the Western Way work is going to lead to something. They're not spending $100MM to improve commute times for cast members.
It will also help with the GF parking scarcity. Though I also suspect there is more to it than that.
