MK Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

Can you think of another 2 attractions that had less visitation over approx 14 acres ? I can’t.

Seeing as we never get accurate attraction visitation numbers from Disney, I wouldn't really know. And my comment was based more on the hyperbole of people saying "no one ever goes there".

This is another key point. They can block the entrance to Muppet Courtyard and hope most guests forget about it and, sadly, they probably will. The RoA area will be an unprecedentedly huge and unavoidable eyesore for years, a fact that will keep the closure fresh in guests mind and emphasize the aesthetic damage being done to the area.

Reminds me of the Sorcerer Hat in DHS.

It really does seem like there are more "it's underutilized space, bad for business" people here than "I like Cars, and I want some Cars attractions" people.

This is not an accurate placement of Discovery Bay, or at least the version with which most people are familiar. It would have been in the Big Thunder Ranch area and connected to a circus area on the site of today’s Fantasyland Theater.

The image is just from a newspaper puplication around the time the project was proposed, and I only included it to illustrate that docking the riverboat and making it a restaurant is not an unheard of idea. I think Disney should do it!

The design of the space isn’t rooted in some novelty factor.

They’re building a wall to block it off, the very opposite of how the space was laid out. That’s not really a receipt for success, especially when combined with the lousy track record that has persisted for years now.

I'm saying novelty of experience as it correlates with attraction popularity.

I didn't touch on the walls because they are just part of the process.

I think if they can really make this new area look like some version of Grizzly Peak with streams, waterfalls, large trees etc than it will help most people will move on. The problem is you are going to have to get rid of so many mature trees and they will undoubtedly be replaced with fewer and much smaller trees. With so much loss of water, shade and mature trees it’s going to be hard to not feel like the “wilderness” part of Frontierland didn’t get a major downgrade. In no way do I think a Cars D ticket will offset this. This will most likely be viewed as a pretty big downgrade until Villains land opens up. Villains land presents its own set of challenges as well. I’m not sure Disney is going to deliver the type of PG 13 Villains land most people here would want. That new show at DHS doesn’t inspire much confidence.

Disney is actually pretty good at saving and transplanting mature trees. Good example was the MK parking lot expansion, you can see lots of those relocated trees around the new roads in that area. Hoping some are saved from this area too.

Walls are already going up, construction destruction crews already seen.

The haters are happy today.

They created concept renderings and fun maps but only time will tell what we will end up with.

Whatever they are trying to do here, my only hope is this gets done sooner rather than later.

Just came back from visiting MK and was happy to say my good-byes to the river and Liberty Belle. It was so nice to be able to have a relaxing place in the park to walk by or to take a spin on the boat during the day. No matter how good Cars is, you cannot replace that aspect of the ROA nor the iconic scenery.

I also question how they will transition from Cars to Villains.

I feel that if you have a sufficient “buffer” zone you can make mostly anything work. Ruins I envision starting small but then starting to get more and more elaborate as you proceed into the land.

I think they had the best you could hope for. The area around ROA is really a dense forest. Using that growth with some obvious pathways would be similar to the Pandora reveals at the AK. I think using nature would have been best. Then having the normal tree growth get a bit darker more ominous as you got closer to the land. Throw in some black/purple trees, maybe some mis-shaped trees.

Just to be negative about EVERYTHING, I’m a bit concerned villainsland is just going to be full of craggy purple rockwork, which seems like the least imaginative approach possible. And I’m really bored with Imagineering rockwork, which seems to be most of what they build now.

You may be right that ADA won’t matter much longer in Florida but that’s another topic! Haha

So I'm not saying the ADA doesn't matter. I'm saying it being the 'largest moving' (or however you want to phrase it) ADA attraction doesn't mean anything. All attractions are ADA compliant.
