You are kidding?!? Really? I have Apple CarPlay in both my cars, and I couldn't live without it.
What would the General Motors cars have if not Google or CarPlay? What else is there? Some proprietary GM system?
Typical GM belligerence, I swear. It's like they just can't admit it's no longer 1965 and that they are a bit player now.
GM Says It's Ditching Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for Your Safety
GM claims people won't stop looking at their phones and it wants to minimize that danger inside its cars. The Real Reason GM Is Dropping Apple CarPlay, Android Auto
And from Reddit:
"I was selected for a small Q&A only about 100 people or so last year with Mark Reuss before I left and he flat out admitted that a main benefit is it allows better access to customer data without Apple in the way, and gives GM the opportunity to charge for subscriptions. I was actually surprised how blunt he was about it."
and
"They shared this at an apm as well. GM wants to own the data and open new revenue streams"
EDIT: Had I refreshed my screen, I would have seen that @truecoat already posted that first link.
