You are kidding?!? Really? I have Apple CarPlay in both my cars, and I couldn't live without it.

What would the General Motors cars have if not Google or CarPlay? What else is there? Some proprietary GM system?

Typical GM belligerence, I swear. It's like they just can't admit it's no longer 1965 and that they are a bit player now.

GM Says It's Ditching Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for Your Safety

GM claims people won't stop looking at their phones and it wants to minimize that danger inside its cars.

The Real Reason GM Is Dropping Apple CarPlay, Android Auto

And from Reddit:
"I was selected for a small Q&A only about 100 people or so last year with Mark Reuss before I left and he flat out admitted that a main benefit is it allows better access to customer data without Apple in the way, and gives GM the opportunity to charge for subscriptions. I was actually surprised how blunt he was about it."
and

"They shared this at an apm as well. GM wants to own the data and open new revenue streams"

EDIT: Had I refreshed my screen, I would have seen that @truecoat already posted that first link.

So I saw a Youtube trailer for the new all-animated 2026 Cat in the Hat movie and for one second thought, “Oh! Maybe this one will do it right!”

Watched the trailer. No, WB, the problem with the previous movie wasn’t that it needed to be MORE obnoxious and LESS faithful to the source material.

Long, weary sigh.

I kinda like the Cat’s character design. That’s about the only positive thing I can think of to say about the film, based on the trailer.

This trailer feels like a parody of 2020s kids/family-targeted movie trailers. The “jokes” are terrible.

If you're a sicko like me who goes to Disneyland monthly, this is the time of year when you have to make sure to cram in a couple last rides on Mansion before it goes away for 5 months.

Test Track 3.0 looks better than I expected. IMO fans are being a little too generous when they compare it to "classic Epcot" (I'd recommend those folks revisit the surviving POVs of World of Motion and Horizons), but I'm pleasantly surprised by the actual focus on technology, the optimistic view of the future, and the respect for guests shown by not shoehorning an IP into the experience.

Also, candidly, EVs and automated vehicles have (unfortunately/frustratingly) become such hot-button political issues, I'm kind of impressed Disney is actually engaging honestly with the future of this industry here.

I think my favorite parts of TT 3.0 are the sensors/scanning and smart roads sections.

1.0 > 3.0 > 2.0

However...

The projection before going outdoors is nice. Too bad the doors open up to… the same backstage drive-over. They seem to have really destroyed the suspense of that moment. Again…unfocused.

I agree 100%. It's kind of a laughable moment. A beautiful utopian city gives way to... a re-creation of a central Florida highway circa 1999.

Judging by the POV, you start to feel it during the "It's fun to be free!" section, where the clunky movements of the ride vehicle (racing around a 25 year-old track) appear pretty incongruous with the sleek EV we're supposedly riding in.

Oh well. This is the downside of overlays, and the reason why (most of the time) Disney/Universal should just build new attractions.

The only big problem IMO is the script. It has the modern Disney script problem of being WAY too casual, putting in bad jokes and subtly trying to be "of the moment". It distracts and detracts from what otherwise would be a decent upgrade.

It's a lost art. We're a long way from "Your cadaverous pallor betrays an aura of foreboding."

I've heard Imagineers say it's easy to dream up theme park attractions but a lot harder to make them a reality. Undeniably true... with one exception. Many of us could write better scripts than the asinine drivel ("They can play!") churned out in too many rides during the last 10-15 years.

"I think you should just leave the jokes to me"

Ugh. You can't tell me a second draft just wasn't in the budget.

70th Anniversary Nighttime Spectacular First Thoughts Review:

I’ve finally experienced the 70th Aniversary shows and wanted to throw my two cents in:

Paint the Night (5 stars): Boy is it great to have this show back! And it’s back where it belongs. In DCA the floats didn’t look nearly as grand I suspect due to the wider walkways and more empty space. Having this roll down Main Street just makes the floats pop. As soon as I heard this was coming back, it instantly made my decision to buy a MK last fall the right choice. I hope that once this anniversary is over we don’t need to wait too long until an electric parade comes back.

Wondrous Journeys (4 stars): Maybe the hype got to me but I strongly disagree that this show is the best DL has ever done, I still prefer Halloween Screams, DL Forever and Remember. I would even go as far to call this DL’s Enchantment, a technically impressive show that fails at its intended purpose. As the opening dialogue states, this is supposed to be a celebration of the company’s 100 years of films. It starts off strong with what looks like a “history lesson format” as we start with Mickey and highlight the golden age but after that first segment we completely change the narrative to the HEA trip through a story format with I want songs, call to adventure, conflict and triumph (we skip friendship and love I assume due to timing issues from having a long golden age section at the beginning.) My two issues with this show are this, there is an extreme lack of silver age songs used, DL Forever did a much better job of representing all eras. Infact, after that golden age introduction it’s mostly all modern songs with a little renaissance mixed in. I realize the visuals represent all eras but the songs should have too. If they would have kept to the history report this would not have happened. I suspect that’s why the format changed as all fireworks need to sell the hot D+ properties. If they really felt that way they should have kept to the HEA format from the start and fleshed that out more but what that part does have is pretty great (love flying Baymax) my issues with the back half of the show is what we don’t have, mainly any recognition for classic villains, how is it that the company who has arguably created the greatest villain roster in the world not have a villain section in their show celebrating their centennial? Seriously how? It was a major buzzkill, especially since WOC the “happy party” manages to include them. I’m not sad I won’t be seeing this show in October Halloween Screams is a far better show.

WOC:Happiness (4 stars): Let’s get this out of the way before I give my mostly positive review of this one, my favorite WOC is Seasons of Light followed closely by the original, this show is neither of those shows but it is my 3rd favorite and I believe I have seen every show (yes even Villianous and Winter Dreams.) If they refuse to go back to the original, this isnt a bad replacement show. In fact if they punched this up and replaced two sections it might even stand a chance of beating out the original show. I like that they went for something different it’s not just a collage (original show) nor is it a fully plot driven show. It’s supposed to just be a party to get happy. Simple, rarely used outside of parades but surprisingly effective. I love the Muppet introduction which builds up excitement, I love using Rainbow Connection as the opening and closing* number, but then we get Joy’s arrival. Look the polka concert in the first movie was a funny bit because it was super annoying and all of about 30 seconds. It is not nearly as funny when you stretch out the “annoying Joy” joke for 3 minutes this really kills the vibe and derails the show. Things quickly get back on track with the boy bands leading up to my man Powerline’s arrival. The show also does a great job going from there, I love that they brought back the lasers outline villains from Villianous, loved the MOAF’s (mother of all flame throwers) moment and loved the Rainbow Connection finale. The show should have ended right there, but no, we get a Joy themed dance party that feels tacked on and just ends. They need to shorten that first scene considerably and ditch the dance party at the end. Otherwise really enjoyable show.

Here’s hoping 75 gives us a Remember like E-ticket in the sky show, bringing back the original WOC, and a new Electric Parade and Daytime Parade

I’ll be 64, I plan to be there, unless nature has other plans…

I’ll be 72 going on 73. Hope to be there and still be able to ride Matterhorn. If I’m lucky enough to be there I wonder if I’ll remember this post. What makes me sad is thinking about all my family who will most likely not be around anymore when I walk down Main Street that day.
