New Awful Security Screening Process

From what I understand from posts on Reddit, some time just before Memorial weekend, security/bagcheck was audited and failed miserably. The auditors were able to get through the lines with prohibited items and that forced increases in checks and updated protocols.

I remember this happening just before my trip on Memorial weekend and making sure I got to bag check earlier than usual (was staying across the street on Harbor) so I wasn't standing in long lines. I remember seeing posts on Reddit about that time of people complaining it was taking upwards of 2 hours to get through bag check during that time.

Regarding the wallets, there was someone in front of me and part of a vape pen was found, but he tried to explain that it wasn't functional because of a missing piece (maybe battery or cartridge? I don't vape so don't know how they work). They then asked for his wallet and sure enough, they found the missing piece in there.

You'd be surprised how much people try to sneak stuff in....often trying to hide things in strollers. Another post had shown (there was a pic) of a lady trying to bring a wine bottle in through her stroller.

Don't blame Disney/security on this.....blame the idiot guests who can't follow rules and try to sneak things in and force them to take more time to dig deeper.
Interesting 🤔 I think I would worry a lot more about weapons than vape Pens lol

yeah the entry process has definitely gotten worse at Disneyland - the new security procedures and the new entry gates both take longer.

And yes, vape pens seem to be the biggest concern from what I have witnessed as well.

I’m now intentionally booking hotels that are walkable to non-harbor Blvd. security checks to avoid the lines there.

I personally hate security screening. They don’t always enforce their rules or make good judgments.
Its just a huge waste of time for the most part. See someone vaping in parks, kick them out without a refund. See someone visibly drunk, search them and kick them if they are found in possession of smuggled alcohol. Trying to sneak it in results in nothing but a finger wave and a choice to return it to the car or toss it in the trash, so it is far more efficient to go after people abusing trust with harsher penalties than assume everyone is trying to sneak in contraband.

I always wonder that with the rise in 3-D printed weapons if we will see a day when metal detectors just aren't effective enough to be worth the expense.

Agreed. I also have issues with how security and entrance CM’s behave on occasion on both coasts. Though for the most part - they do a good job.

Security bothers me the most since they are paid a premium - they should be expected to behave the best.

Why both costs are set on manually inspecting bags vs. bag scanners is beyond me. I know in Florida you can walk through the evolv with a bag, but it looks like lots of bags get flagged for manual search?

They manually search every bag right now. They should go back to a no bag line to let us breeze through.

While true that Disneyland’s security process is less efficient than other parks, I haven’t waited more than a few minutes in a very long time. I typically get to the park between 11am and 12pm and enter from the Harbor entrance.

I was shocked at how bad the process was when we were there in April…

They have a problem with bangers there? Must be

I asked a guy about the walk through scanners and he said “we tried them…but between you and me…they don’t work that well…”

Funny thing is…I don’t care. The point of something like that is deterrence. Like cops sitting in plain view to slow everyone down.
It’s not like these guys are gonna tackle somebody if things get “real” anyway

The only people it doesn’t work for is the security CMs, as because they are efficient Disney won’t staff as many gates. Noon, GCH enterance to Downtown, line is two dozen long, 5 CMs on duty, one security station running. Pathetic.

One time recently a security guy plopped my backpack onto the security table face-down with all the pockets open, and when I picked it up everything fell out onto the table and my AirPods case fell off the table and onto the ground and the ear buds themselves went flying. No acknowledgment or apology from the guy.

Thank you for your service, Disney security team <3

I had one time, a security guy made a BIG deal about my fragrance bottle. He said it was too Large to be accepted into the parks. He’s said “I will slip this through. Next time do not bring it of you wish to have it be confiscated”
I balked how past attempted NO one has mention about until him.

Later on I found out Disney rule is no more than 3.3 ounce glass bottle can be permitted inside on property. MY fragrance bottle IS a 3.3 ounce glass bottle…he failed to find reading but made false assumptions my glass bottle was too large. 🙄
