Except per Box Office Theory, the HIGH-END tracking of The Fantastic Four’s opening weekend suggest a billion is possible, IF the movie is good
You were a lot more emphatic and without any qualifiers in the Box Office thread (and there’s a bunch of receipts).

As for Elio, it’s settled into Good Dinosaur/Brave territory in RT, and the opening weekend prospects are looking very grim.

Anyway, we’ll see how this ages:

The Wrap and Vulture basically are bloggers that look prestige and connected because they're part of The Wrap and Vulture... but really aren't.

When I see one of their articles say "I was talking to a Disney rep on the phone and they said..." -- then I'll pay attention.

Otherwise it's a lot of repeating what other people say without sources in the echo chamber.

That’s just wrong.

Brave/Good Dinosaur territory is 75-80%, dumb man.

It’s actually settled into Onward territory (85-90%).

And even if it’s opening weekend is low, with strong word of mouth like Elemental had if it gets that, it might let out to be a sleeper hit or break even.

Saw it tonight, it was really good. My comment before about it reminding me of Explorers from the 80s was pretty spot on.

There were no “bloopers” during the credits or at the end, at least at my showing. And as far as Hoppers, they had a little what I would call a “bumper” after all the credits, with a few second sequence that doesn’t even indicate what it’s for until they flash the “Hopper March 2026” title card and it goes black. So that is even less than they did recently with the teaser for Zootopia 2. So I don’t expect anything in relation to Hoppers until August with maybe Freakier Friday.

Also this is the first time in a very long time where only Disney movie previews played in-front of the movie. Don’t know if this was because it was a Thursday “preview” or what, but it was refreshing.

My thoughts exactly on the Hoppers teaser trailer.

Thanks for posting a receipt or two. :) The amount of ego and hypocrisy wrapped up in one poster is astounding - So he can "say, speak, or think" whatever he wants, but others are not allowed to do the same simply because they want to sometimes reference a website he vehemently dislikes because it goes against his worldview that's based on the 4 Hollywood-shill websites he frequents. On a website he does not own, nor has any authority over.

I do hope to get to the theater to see 'Elio'. Scheduling could be the hard part, however, we have a lot packed in our calendar over the next month.

Well, folks, we have the opening night numbers for Disney/Pixar’s #Elio, it managed to hit the high-end of its opening night numbers with a $3M opening night number, which I know includes $500K from the Early Access Screenings on Wednesday, which without means it did $2.5M (barely $100K higher than Elemental’s opening night number) but, even without it, it’s still $100K higher than Elemental’s $2.4M opening night number.

If it can manage to multiply like #Elemental did from its opening night number (12.33X), combined with its early access number, it might be able to open above $30M and open to $31.3M by my calculations. Whether it legs out like Elemental for the rest of its run, we’ll have to wait and see.

But that may depend on if it gets an “A” CinemaScore or not.

It can’t get an “A-“ like Lightyear or it may fail to hit $100M domestically.

Guess we’ll have to wait and see how it fares.

Funny, since you were the one insisting we would get a teaser with Elio, which I told you at the time not to expect it and seems I was right to tell you that.
Still feel that what we got of Hoppers was an end-credits teaser similar to that of the first Avengers movie after the end credits of Captain America: The First Avenger.

Nope, not at all the same thing, as its not even a teaser. That "bumper" as I'm calling it really didn't give any indication it was for Hoppers, or even what they were trying to "tease" until the title card popped up. At least with Avengers you have some indication what its for.

And I imagine that very few if any will even see it, as I was the only person left in my theater who stayed all the way to the end. Because very few kids are going to want to wait that long through boring credits to watch something that makes no sense.

28 years later debuted at $5.8 million.

Prerelease tracking suggests that Elio — about a young boy whose wish to travel to outer space and interact with aliens comes true — will open to $30 million plus in North America. That’s on par with Pixar’s original title Elemental, which was raked over the coals when debuting to $29.6 million in June 2023. That was the second-lowest, 3-day debut of all time for Pixar behind the $29.1 million launch of its first very first film, 1995’s Toy Story, not adjusted for inflation. (Toy Story opened over Thanksgiving, and amassed $39 million over the long five-day holiday weekend.)

Might still leg out like Elemental did if word of mouth is strong.

As someone said, it’s not about how it starts, it’s about how it finishes.

And since Elio has nothing to worry about until The Bad Guys 2 in August, especially if Smurfs is a piece of garbage, it should be fine.

The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, and Variety are not shill publications…. They are highly respected media in the industry…. I have rarely seen articles that are purely rumors….. most of what they print eventually happens

Also when Vulture reports something positive they are shills… but negative…. Posters will site vulture to embolden their opinions

Nothing about these numbers looks good. US pre-sales were around $1M. General industry opening expectations are $20M domestically--which is not good. And sure there are movies every now and then that come back from a weak opening, but this is not at all the norm. When elemental came out two years ago, there was very little else following it...for weeks...of quality...for families. That, plus word of mouth, created a unique situation. Also, 2023 was a weak summer for releases overall. That's not at all the situation this summer. I don't know anyone who thought Elio would do well when released. However I know a lot of people who think that Fantastic Four will do just fine when it comes out. (And with that, Dear Disney, in case you haven't noticed, Marvel films with top tier characters from the comics overall tend to do fare better at theaters. If you're confused as to what constitutes a top tier Marvel character from the comics, go to any downtown section of a large city and notice what characters teens and young adults are wearing on their t-shirts. Also, let me know how long you have to sit there before you find someone wearing an Ironheart, Eternals, Ms. Marvel, Ironfist, etc. t-shirt. Anyway, a t-shirt test would be a really great way to move forward.)
