Yeah, I'm surprised they had it here. Maryland you have to pay for it. And it's required to get your license. Google says you can now do it online, but yeah...stupid.

I don't even know if it helps produce better drivers. I know I retained a good bit from drivers Ed because my parents researched and put me in a decent program. Plus I did it several months after I had already started driving, so I wasn't totally new. But there's definitely stuff she should have learned and didn't retain or that wasn't taught.

Funny thing, I had to explain to my grandma and her friends (who are closer to my parents age) how right of way works at a four way stop. 🙄 And I don't know how many times I've had to educate people that when you come to a light that's out, you're supposed to treat it like a four way stop. But then I never knew the passing lane rule until the internet. They definitely didn't cover that in my driver's Ed course. Though in many cases, it's not a practical rule to stay to the right. Especially on PA's bad roads (though once again, that varies by area. Hershey has great roads. This area...ha. And Maryland is worse in Baltimore than further north where I am; those roads are good).
What is the "passing lane rule"? Is that the staying in the right lane except to pass? Or is there more to it? Here, you can actually get ticketed for driving in the left lane unnecessarily. You are always supposed to be in the right lane except to pass, or if you are turning left.

But there are SOOOOO many more rules here. They have a rule for everything, and for every exception to that rule. I feel like it doesn't make things safer because people are too busy trying to figure out which rule or exception applies and a lot of people have forgotten things. It's just convoluted.

I almost got hit on my bike the other day because I was at an intersection. I was turning right, and I was in the bike lane. Across the street, there were 3 kids on ONE fatbike (Do you guys have fatbikes there? Are they really bad there? It's HORRIBLE here) and they were barrelling across the crosswalk, not in the bike lane, and they were on the wrong side of the street. So they were basically in MY lane, coming straight at me, but using the crosswalk. People on the crosswalk ALWAYS have the right of way over other traffic. And at this intersection, cars have "Shark teeth" meaning they have to yield to cross traffic. And whoever has the shortest turn has the right of way. So I, turning right, have right of way over someone going straight, but I DO have to stop for pedestrians. But then these kids weren't pedestrians....they were on a fatbike. AND on the wrong side of the street. So if you are ON your bike, you don't have right-of way on the crosswalk. And if you are going the wrong direction in the lane, obviously you don't have the right-of way...you aren't even supposed to be there. These kids almost T-boned me. I had to slam on my brakes and then they shouted at ME and called me an "old lady" like -I- was the one in the wrong.

And yesterday, same intersection, a car was pulled up halfway across the bike lane and blocking the crosswalk as well. You are not allowed to stop if you are blocking the crosswalk or bike lane...you have to leave those open. It wasn't a huge deal for me, because there was just enough room I was pretty sure I could go around her....except as soon as I got up there, she pulled up and stopped right across the bike lane and I had to slam on my brakes again. And she just sat there waiting for an opening to turn onto the main street. There was a student driver behind her....I hope the instructor used the situation as a teaching moment of what NOT to do. There used to be a light at the intersection and for some strange reason they removed it a couple of years ago and put in the "shark teeth" so that bikes have the right of way there, only cars don't generally yield like they are supposed to. I've had several issues in that spot and I think a lot of it is just that people have forgotten what the rules are because there are too many to remember.

Is a fatbike an e-bike (electronic bike)? I googled it and that is what it told me, just wanted to be sure as I haven't heard that term before. We have quite a few people in my town that always ride their bike on the sidewalk and then seem to get annoyed when I'm using the sidewalk to walk. I was taught that bikes go on the road but maybe that isn't right, it just annoys me when I have to move into the grass off the sidewalk for the bikes.

That's basically what it means. But when you have two lane highways and the amount of traffic we have...I don't know how you're supposed to follow it. In PA, with their terrible roads, the exits are so short that you're more likely to have an accident crowding the exit. No one actually follows that rule here. And cops don't ticket for it, so why would anyone!

75 is normal. My parents like to put it at around 75 for the their home.

Its got to be a hot streak coming up around where I live. Its going to be 94 to 96 degrees from Saturday to Monday. My dad already said no mowing the lawn on those days.
75 and have ceiling fans in all rooms on 24/7 except in bathrooms and the home is very comfortable.

When I first moved from Vermont to North Carolina I had my AC set on 65 and I was still hot. The apartment was so cold that there was condensation completely covering the outside of my windows. You could have hung meat in there. I just got back from Vermont (67 degrees) on Sunday and since then it is like walking on the sun in the upper 90's here. My AC is currently on the same temperature that I have in the winter, 73 degrees F. It is perfect for me now. In spite of the humidity outside pushing close to 90% it is only 42% in my apartment.
