DHS Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Last week I flew out of MIA and unexpectedly saw their fleet of self driving wheelchairs. It reminded me a lot of droids moving around the Star Wars universe. I wonder if Imagineering could integrate that technology into GE. I don't know how well they can navigate in a really crowded environment but airport terminals can get pretty congested.

Some of the Star Wars technology is becoming less sci-fi and more just sci by the day!

Maybe a hot take but I'm not a fan of any of the "human" m&g associated with Star Wars. The prince and princesses are fine across the parks but for SW they just never hit (and yes I know they are mainly for kids).

Rey and Vi are pretty lame. Luke would probably be terrible. More droids...more aliens...*that* would be cool and make the land feel more alive. Always thought the Jawas trading were so cool. Stormtroopers, Kylo and Chewbacca are great because the interactions you see feel more genuine

I think it's hard to do meet and greets for live action human characters played by human actors -- this applies to Marvel too, although most of the Marvel characters can wear a mask that eliminates the issue.

They obviously don't look the same as the actor, which makes them feel like a knock-off. And kids absolutely notice this too; it's not unusual for kids to look at a M&G and say that isn't the character they're supposed to be meeting.

It definitely could be because of the actor faces not matching the characters, but I also wonder, seeing as Galaxy's Edge takes itself so seriously as an in-universe 'real' world, meet and greets for these military generals and soldiers types just feel weird. Vader shouldn't be concerning himself with engaging with children, and Vi Moradi is supposed to be an undercover agent who has more important business to do. If Disney Parks Star Wars took itself less seriously like in the old days, maybe these character interactions would feel less off?

...I however love the Galaxy's Edge meet and greets, even if it's odd to see a much more restrained Kylo Ren conversing with us Black Spire visitors whilst he hunts for Rey to assassinate her. The Stormtroopers and Rey 'stealth mission' role-play with children she sometimes does are always entertaining.

Luke was absolutely terrible, at least when we saw him meeting people. It looked like a mediocre Halloween costume with a really lame looking blonde wig. As far as the aliens... Yes, absolutely they need more. One of our best memories was from star wars weekends meeting all the masked characters, aliens and droids. They had sand people, Gamorrean guards, aurra sing, zam wesell, kit fisto (and he never comes out) Jango, Boba, darth maul, R2... It was awesome. If Galaxys edge had rotating classic aliens like those. I guarantee the reception of the land jumps WAY up.

Thread bump!

The falling-vent effect has finally been fixed in the final Kylo AA scene!

When the FO starfighter debris hits the ship, breaching the hull and "sucking" Kylo away from the pressure difference, the ceiling vent right above him is supposed to wiggle and fall.

I illustrated the effect below in white.
This specific effect has been missing since before the park closures in 2020, so it's been well over 5 years that this practical effect has been broken...longer than the infamous cannons!

This same effect over at DL has always worked, but sometimes breaks here and there. Wondered if at HS something else caused it to be turned off for so long. Maybe needed new parts or something. Looks to be early May 2025 it was turned back on.

Regardless it's good to see a long-broken effect finally been restored. That just leaves the cannons as the last effect in the ride that's been gone for such a long time. It was fixed recently at DL earlier this year.
A-mode last scene in Dec 2020 and A-mode Lite in Jan 2022.

Livestream timestamped at final Kylo AA scene showing effect fixed:

POV from Oct 2020 showing effect already broken:

Good to see it working again, but it did work in 2020 after reopening after lockdown; it’s seen in my edit that was shot the second half of 2020.

Interesting. I saw a couple livestreams from February 2020 and it was broken then. Maybe it was on and off throughout 2020 before permanently being shut off.

@wdwmagic POV from October 2020 that I linked above shows it broken then too.

The guns on the AT-AT still aren’t moving either, are they?
Sporadically from what I witnessed over the Spring.
It's also been on and off the past couple years. Same with the probe droid in the beginning.

When maintenance fixes it, it breaks again after a couple weeks.

The turnaround time on the probe droid is much faster, probably due to easier accessibility. The AT-AT cannons guns are harder to reach and probably require a lift to access and fix.

The ride seriously needs an extended refurbishment at this point. Maintenence is doing the best they can with what they're given.

I just did some digging. The footage in my edit looks to have been shot July-August 2020.

Extended refurbishment? Then how are they supposed to make any of that sweet, sweet Lightning Lane money on the ride?

Disneyland shuts Rise down one hour before closing, maybe DHS could follow suit.

Thanks! I almost always get the other side when riding so I rarely see it anyway lol

That shot in Martin’s video really looked great though. I was fortunate to ride when it first opened and it was incredible. I still think it’s fully operational state is the best ride I’ve ever experienced.

I got to ride it at DL a few weeks ago. The moving cannons were such a great effect (which we got to experience pre-Covid) and it was so great to see everything in A-mode.

They really do give their attractions a lot more TLC over there.

Bad idea. Not so much the free roaming droids, but the number of jerk-a guests who would ruin the entire thing
