But seriously how does the tiny interior of Tiana’s Palace at Disneyland feel more like Princess and the Frog than the huge E ticket attraction?

I'm sorry, guys, I think I soured her on this attraction, and she never even went on Splash.
That’s unfortunate. I much preferred Splash too, but I would never influence a child to share my disappointment with its replacement. Without an adult poking holes at the logic, most children would find the idea of searching for animal musicians quite magical.

When riding Splash I would look ahead and see characters and movement and look behind and to catch pieces I missed because there was a lot going on.

With Tiana, there are so many scenes where nothing is happening, you're surrounded by nothing, especially the scene where it's nothing but grasses and twinkling LEDs.
And dialog is required with Tiana's to tell you what's going on.

Oh, I would.
As a parent, it's my job to quide them to understand what is good vs what is poorly done.
My son's are 23 now, so I'm mostly done with that job.

Just went on it and have to say I liked it did for what it was…

I’m not real interested in debating “story shortcomings”…because it’s a log flume with scenery. I didn’t find splash to be that deep either truth be told.

But is it better than splash? Of course not…not for its time and certainly not when they maintained it…which was the biggest disgrace for the last 20 years…

But it’s adequate for now.

Also thought the Same of country bears…not as good…but not a disaster

lol I was about to say I doubt most adults know that’s what we’re doing in the bayou. Let alone the kids.

I literally just went to ask my son who’s been on it 5+ times

Me: when we ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, why are we in the bayou? What are we doing there?

Him: what do you mean?

Me: In the story, why do we go to the Bayou?

Him: I dunno. We’re riding a cool ride

Granted, these types of details can fly over kids heads on any ride. But as we know many of the plot points are lost on adults as well. Such as us shrinking down to the size of frogs. Also my son isn’t the type of kid that’s not interested in details. Today on the way to school he wanted to know how Madame Leota died.

Nah. Maybe if they fix the tunnel of nothingness that replaced the Laughing Place it could be upgraded to “adequate.”

You would tell an eight-year-old who might otherwise enjoy the attraction, “This ride isn’t well done, and I really don’t like it compared to what was here before”? I can’t tell if you’re joking or not.

The thing I hate about the change is they ruined the French Market restaurant. They should've put Tiana's Palace where the Hungry Bear restaurant is along the river, like in the movie.

Hard disagree there. NOS is my favorite land in the park and as much as I love it, it still feels more or less like the same place. The core experience is the same. Same can’t be said if they rethemed the Rustic Hungry Bear into Tiana’s which works perfectly in Critter Country. Yes, Critter Country.

Well they had sacrificed most of it in an act of deliberate industrial sabotage for a decade prior…

My favorite part of splash was the turtle room…how long was that gone/decomposing?

I get it…things used to be better…but I think we are screaming about the front lawn here a bit.
It was over…because no name tag made an official announcement at fancon…didn’t mean we all didn’t know they had zero intention of keeping splash going. The writing was on the wall.

I think it’s reprehensible that wonders of life was closed and the prices have been increased 47 times since. That is a straight up ripoff.

So I’m no duster for sure

I just think the second act is so disastrous that it’s way too high of a compliment to say adequate the moment. Especially at Disneyland. They replaced dozens of AAs and charming sets with 4 limited motion frogs and two screens. One of them with a jarring CGI Tiana. Even without comparing to what was- the climax does not work.

Adequate when it should have - could have - been spectacular.

Yeah…I forgot you’re an Lander…

We’re on a bit of a different wave length

The wdw splash was an absolute embarrassment due to lack of maintenance for many years…so my perspective is coming from a lower bar to clear

No, I would not do that.
I'm being sarcastic to make a point.
I would never take the joy away from an eight year old.
I would certainly enjoy the ride with them, and I don't doubt that even now I would still enjoy Tiana's to an extent even now.
It's not like I'd sit there arms folded and hating it the whole time.
What I would have done in all honesty though is express that I liked the previous ride better if I were to ride Splash with my son's when they were that young and then ride Tiana's as the replacement and the subject came up - as it most likely would.

No it really couldn’t have

Because Princess and the frog is NOT a top tier franchise.

They have been persistent with it…no doubt…but the facts are the facts. Little blue alien guy has chewed that movie up and spit it out 10 times over…older ones like mermaid and BATB continue to chug…Moana far more successful from an impact/longevity/licensing track record.

It just is what it is. They took a story about a girl baking with voodoo and jazz playing animals and shoved it in there…that was never a recipe for “spectacular”
