Hello Friends. I’ve been MIA a few days, but look forward to catching up tomorrow.
We moved Thursday, Friday … worked Saturday even though there was round one of an ice storm … went into work on Sunday after round two of the ice storm, just to prove there was no power … left work and went around the corner to
the mostly empty apartment to grab the last of our things, but couldn’t accomplish much (because there was no power and the elevator wasn’t working, and 5 trips up and down to the 5th floor nearly killed me) … and had the good fortune to be one of only two cars (out of 80 or so) to be damaged by falling limbs.
This is Mike’s car somewhere under there. We will go check it out tomorrow, as we were advised to wait until the ice melted, as we risked bringing down more overburdened limbs and branches.

There were almost a million customers that got knocked out. As of this morning, 667,000 had been restored, and 276,000 were still without power.I'm glad you are safe. They mentioned on our news yesterday that there had been an ice storm there and that thousands of people were without electricity, so I was worried about you, but I'm glad you are ok. Not that it is FUN, but hopefully everything melts soon and you can get everything moving again.
Jennifer, glad to hear that all is resolved. Now, get some rest and enjoy your sports on TV tonight. There were almost a million customers that got knocked out. As of this morning, 667,000 had been restored, and 276,000 were still without power.
Power is back on as of 1:00’ish. Heat is on!
Spenser is home, taking care of business.
- Dishwasher is running.
- Aborted load in the washer has resumed washing.
- Aborted load in the dryer will need to be completely re-washed.
We moved the limb and branches off the car this morning. The Buick is completely unscathed!
Mike, of course, was 1/3 of the way to Brantford to fetch the generator when the power came back. Go figure. No worries, no one was ever sorry they had an unused dual fuel generator sitting in their garage.
It’s been a good day so far. Even better once I finally get a shower tonight!
Also, Go Jays, Go! I’ll finally get to see a full game tonight.
I am so dreadfully sorry to hear this. And, I haven’t posted this yet, but another hit for us.
My next youngest bro was diagnosed with lung cancer last week. He has never been a smoker, except for the occasional cigar, and has never worked in any industry where this is known to, potentially, be a result.
We lost my mother-in-law last year, after a long illness with lung cancer. We were hoping this year would be better, but then lost sister-in-law less than a month after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer recently.
Now this.
In an attempt to lighten things up a bit, I give you the below, although I’m not really sure how much good it does anymore…

Sorry to hear about your brother's diagnosis. I could share some more kind words for you, but the site here this afternoon has been moving slowly (think Steve is working on it). I've had to log out a few times because it froze. And, I haven’t posted this yet, but another hit for us.

I am so dreadfully sorry to hear this.
It was just me and my dad in the hospital room when the doctor delivered the biopsy news. To date, that remains the saddest moment of my life. Not the time of his passing, that was actually almost a relief … but the moment the doctor told us that my hero’s cape was irredeemably torn.
I pray your brother is at a lower stage and that treatment can prolong his life for years to come. Again, my deepest condolences. It’s an awful feeling.

So sorry to hear the news @donaldtoo. Cancer sucks.
I'm sorry that your family has to go through all that cancer junk. Luckily, you seem like a family that strength with each other so hopefully you can lean on each other. And, I haven’t posted this yet, but another hit for us.

Hopefully this provides some joy for everyone...
The "flood drill" prank was a success! None of the kids had any idea. They started by removing the shoes and socks and rolling up their pants. Then we practiced "Standing Drill #1" where they had to stand on their chairs. Next was "Sitting Drill #2" for longer-term flooding. They had to sit on their chairs with their feet on their tables, making sure they were relaxed in case they had to be there for multiple hours. Last, we practiced "Swimming Drill #3", where students laid on their tummies on their chairs and practiced swimming. The last step was "Teachers, you can yell, "April Fool's", because all of this was a joke!
I got pictures and video of everything. The kids thought it was funny. I was surprised nobody got suspicious when I told them to start swimming. Some of the kids "pranked" me by leaving paper spiders on my desk.
