Do you have any pictures you can share?
Unfortunately not, it happened so quickly that I didn’t have my phone ready. The attraction went down right when I exited my log so I assume a Cast Member caught it and decided that wasn’t appropriate show.

Is it bad that I’m surprised? My expectations with this ride have gotten so low that I assumed Disney knew and was running the attraction anyway.

No. Even by this rides maintenance standards that’s unbelievable.

It’s a log flume ride with different decorations than it had before. The new ones are more modern, more relevant, and more layered (with the screens.) The queue is detailed and sets the story. I never followed a story with SM, just oh, look - there’s a rabbit, there’s a bear.

If that’s what you got from SM, I can’t help you have fun.

I saw the after math of the hand issue, it looked like clear zip ties? I didn’t understand in the moment but this makes it make sense. Still long list of broken effects - working faces but broken bodies, vice versa, Louis’ skin/fur peeling off the edge of the animatronic body, mama odie not moving, the snake (what’s his name?) not popping up, no odie screen at the main lift hill and lots more

My biggest issue is that it’s a nothing ride where nothing happens and there’s no purpose to any of it. It’s a bunch of figures scattered randomly in dark hallways. There isn’t a true “scene” until you get to the top of the lift hill (6 minutes in). Even the cheapest C ticket dark rides are better composed than this ride.

Repairs made with clear zip ties.... Yup, that sounds like today's Disney company ;)

Found a video from a company that did work on DL's version of Bayou Adventure, complete with a construction shot of Burrow Lament that I feel perfectly sums up why this ride is a colossal nuke:
IMG_1357.jpg

It just illustrates how much nothing there is to look at Bayou, even with the lights on. Keep in mind, this exact spot would have had 15 figures to look at if you looked at Splash from this spot, even with the lights on.

Yes, a single screen with 3D printed mushrooms and bottles is a much better sequnce than:
  1. Brer Rabbit stuck in honey
  2. Brer Fox sneaking up on him
  3. Mama Possum and 2 babies
  4. Mama Rabbit and 4 baby bunnies
  5. Boothill Boys

My biggest issue for this ride is the placement of Mama Odie's AA. Her being in the lift hill and after the finale of the ride just doesn't work for me. I was initially expecting since Dr. Facilier is not in the ride that she would be some sort of antagonist after shrinking us into frog size but I didn't feel her presence in the ride at all. I was more nervously anticipating for the drop than noticing her there.

Meanwhile….at Tokyo Disneyland :

Wonderful, whimsical artwork currently being given to Guests who purchase a print of their on ride photo.

Why can we no longer have this whimsy Stateside anymore…?

Take a closer look…and let it sink in :
We lost ALL of this…for blank walls and video screens.
And gained what..?
A few impressive AAs, yes…when they operate correctly.

I want this again…even if in another form.
‘Tiana’s Bayou Misadventure’ SHOULD have been just as whimsical and fun.

I don't think anyone knows how to do whimsy anymore. At least not anyone mainstream and certainly not anyone Disney has hired. I can't remember the last thing I experienced that seemed to hit that spot.

I blame the obsession with irony and self awareness that just will not die.

Ironically, whimsy and artistry like this takes risks. It can't be done by spreadsheet. Not to dive too far into the psychology, but it's actually a much weirder symptom of ego masquerading as self awareness that leads to this. Unaware faux self awareness is actually far more dangerous than lack of self awareness... but that's another topic.

Time to keep moving along...

Remember all the people saying how important a remaking of this ride was because of how high the maintenance costs were for the original?

I honestly don’t remember this. I recall people saying the retheme could present an opportunity for Disney to address the ride’s maintenance issues (which obviously proved a misplaced hope), but I don’t recall anyone who endorsed the project claiming that Tiana would be cheaper to operate than Splash. On the contrary, those who kept saying this was all about cutting costs tended to be in the anti-retheme camp.

Yes, I think this is the typical re-writing of history on these boards where cautious optimism or just neutrality morphs into enthusiastic endorsement.

I'm kind of curious to know how this re-theme is looking to Disney in retrospect. I suspect they would rather have not spent the money, though I would be curious whether guest ratings of Tiana are better, worse, or the same as Splash's in its final years. I would also be interested to know if they see it bringing in much in the way of extra revenue from LL or merchandise or if, again, that's more or less a bust.

Plus things that were posted by certain individuals get conflated or confused with things posted by others. And so the oft-heard line “Disney is only doing this to cut costs” gets reframed as a positive opinion voiced by those who supported the retheme or weren’t opposed to it outright.

If I’m not mistaken, @lentesta has said the reviews he collects show great enthusiasm for the new ride. I personally think it’s a major downgrade, though it needn’t and shouldn’t have been.
