I think that musicals and things aiming for female audiences are really their own thing. If it gathers steam based on the strength of well-liked songs, etc. then it could get some legs to make things interesting. Mufasa would be a good comp, except that it had the benefit of multiple holiday weekends to build its word of mouth, so I wouldn't expect this to be able to have the same duration of success.

Interestingly we agree here.

Musicals are such a funny thing. Can’t remember which thread but I shared a link about genres and the break down of the favorability of each.

Between men and women most genres were somewhat close, but the one that had the widest range? Musicals. Men on average had it as their least favorite by the largest margin.

I think it also depends on if you know the person, I’m far more likely to instantly forgive a friend if they do something out of character, or less likely to forgive them if they do something that’s a pattern, when you don’t know the person it’s much harder to gauge sincerity.

That's fair. In all cases, I prefer to give the benefit of the doubt unless there is compelling reason not to. I would rather withdraw my forgiveness if it turns out to be unmerited than deny it out of cynicism.

I don't and neither do you, which is why we shouldn't assume. So we go based on what is given at face value. And face value tells us she did it herself, or at the very least with her team with no prompting from Disney.

I’ve heard it used where Disney is concerned to incorrectly justify government retaliation, but I don’t think that’s what you mean.

People are free to say whatever they want within the bounds of the law, but it doesn’t protect them from being criticized or ostracized if others find what they say unsupported or objectionable.

When you say “free” what do you mean free from?

Anyways I’ve said what I wanted to. Moving back to movies.

I’ve watched the FF trailer a couple more times and I very much like the look and feel of the 1960s Marvel universe.

The one stumbling block I have is Pedro Pascal as the smartest man in the marvel universe? I thought he was perfect as the Red Viper in GoT, but as Reed Richards? Ummm..

Employers is a bit trickier, public company vs private, and other number of factors; part of being employed (but not all) means you have to abide by the terms of your employment, whatever that may be.

My point was a larger one (outside) of employers when a person says something and then person X magnifies it to get them fired, using the ideas we’re talking about.

I don’t really want to go down the rabbit hole of Gina vs any other actor in the employ of Disney. The courts will eventually hash that one out.

Obviously I also fully can’t say what I’d like to given the topic and the board rules.

Now I’m really done.

Screening information is out for this weekend in my area, and Snow White is getting more at open than Mufasa, but less than Captain America: BNW.

Some recentish numbers for comparison (incomplete because I purge my records when I see movies, so now you can see what big movies I haven't seen in theaters):
97 - Captain America: BNW
93 - Quantumania
91 - The Little Mermaid
81 - Snow White
81 - The Marvels

Well that’s a very nice way of going about things.
The thing is Buford is I think you are probably very nice and thoughtful person. You want to see in others what you see in yourself.

I however don’t inherently see good or bad in anyone. I base it upon their actions. If they behave in a way that is not congruent with my values, I just choose to ignore them or wait for evidence that they have changed.

I don’t really care to follow Zegler closely enough for her to gain my approval. She is nothing to me as I am to her.

It’s simpler just to ignore her and by extension her work.

Thanks, sorry. Those are the number of screenings that each of those movies got on their opening Saturday in my market's 6 AMC theaters. It's intended to be a relatively representative way to measure the size of each movie's opening, since the traditional data only shares number of theaters. Every super major release is in basically every theater, so they all just get reported as ~4000 theaters. There's a lot more wiggle room that goes unreported in that. For example, Deadpool & Wolverine opened with an astronomical 179 screenings in my 6 theaters.

The higher the screening count, the more potential BO theaters are thinking that the movie has for its opening. Most of the biggest movies will have more than a single screen at each theater for the first four weeks of their release.

I disagree about Baldwin. I never found him particularly compelling and I prefer the original Infernal Affairs to the remake.

As I said, I think Gadot has been unfairly attacked, often in very ugly ways. The problem is that I just don’t think she’s a very good actor.

That’s fair. In my view, I generally try and separate the art from the artist. A few clear exceptions, in my mind, are: R. Kelly, Kevin Spacey, and more recently, Puff Daddy and Kanye West. Can no longer tolerate their att knowing what they’ve done/are doing. Closer calls are Mel Gibson, who seems genuinely contrite about his sins and also was an alcoholic during those terrible times. Which is also the same reason I can look past Baldwin’s issues. *

*I also try not to let my view of the worthiness of their art work on a sliding scale in terms of how much I’m willing to look past. Chinatown is a perfect test case in that scenario.

I think the film industry put their fingers on the scale and stirred it up more than the play it may have gotten otherwise.

The “benefit of the doubt” is a great plan…but it has to be across the board.

Because there are ugly inferences and shade thrown with legitimate adult, real world discussion as to why movies succeed or fail.

Are those current, I only ask because I saw a report the Looney tunes movie was already being pulled from a lot of theaters with many likely going to SW.

Sad to see a hand drawn animated movie flop so spectacularly, another nail in the hand drawn animation coffin, I didn’t even know it existed, they did a horrible job of marketing it.

There's fair consensus it is missing the mark of 450 or even Deadline's 425 more generous (and likely informed) cut off. Either way it didn't and won't make it.
