Personally I think they both still hold up in 2025. A bugs life unfortunately gets overlooked by a lot of people because of the films that came after. Toy story 2, monsters inc, Nemo, incredibles, all fabulous. People just kind of forget about bugs life. And cars I think gets a bad rep because of how bad cars 2 was.

I'll give you A Bug's Life even though I remember back then people were saying it wasn't as good as Toy Story, or not as good as its competition that year - Tarzan, The Iron Robot or Antz with a z. Honestly it enjoys being their second film and if they had released a movie like this nowadays, everyone would have called it a B-tier Pixar.
However, Cars was released after Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo and Incredibles and people knew back then that Pixar could do better and that the movie seemed to be designed to sell toys. That's not something that people thought of after Cars 2, but after the original Cars. If anything Cars 2 made people believe that the original wasn't that bad (maybe that was Lasseter's intention?).

I’m bummed those two films have no place in your Disney heart.
But A Bug’s Life came out in 1998, same with Antz. The Iron Giant was released in 1999, same with Tarzan.
Speaking of A Bug’s Life, that was the debut film at Pixar for director Andrew Stanton who is directing Toy Story 5. And A Bug’s Life is also the only film at Pixar where Andrew Stanton worked with music composer Randy Newman. So, I hope after almost 30 years since that movie, we get Stanton and Randy to work together again on Toy Story 5’s mucus assuming he’s in good enough shape to do the music on that movie and has fully recovered from surgery for his injuries that made him cancel that tour of his in 2023.

I'm not saying it's better than those films because it's not, as I said they were great. But I think the the first cars does hold up today. I don't think the first film was designed to sell toys. Boys like toy cars so it was obviously going to sell some merchandise. Cars 2? That was definitely given the green light to sell toys. But the first had a nice story, looked great and was an all around a good time. It's not Pixars top of the pile, but it's also not as bad as so many think it is in my opinion.

If "Tiana" is going to be something similar to the Paperman short, I'll honestly be fine with it, Paperman does still look good even today and I think it could work well for "Tiana" depending on how it looks.
I really do hope as well WDAS and Pixar do more originals or at least try to find a balance between sequels and originals. I don't personally mind sequels per say, but I do think there's a kind of "oversaturation" of sequels, especially nowadays in Hollywood but I guess I do understand why from a business perspective why Disney would want to focus on sequels over originals. But speaking of the originals, I'm surprised we don't know anything about the upcoming WDAS original film for 2026, I guess it'll be revealed at Destination D23 this year?
Though I want to ask, do we know when is "Tiana" coming out? I know at D23 and at a recent AMA with Jared Bush on Twitter did confirm that it was still happening, but idk if we got anything in terms of a release date with "Tiana", if I had to guess, I'm guessing late this year, or maybe 2026.

I always thought Cars 2 got a bad rap. I didn’t think it was great but it was at least interesting. So many sequels just kind of hit the same notes as the original. Cars 2 is totally different. I give Lasseter and Pixar credit for that.

Glad we are at least on the same page with being fine that Tiana’s style could look like Paperman. You should see, well not really, my… outburst at the lead mod of DVDizzy when he couldn’t except a true hand-drawn, Randy Newman-less continuation of The Princess and the Frog. Let’s just say I got banned for speaking my own mind.
We have no specific release date on Tiana, only that it’s coming and that’s all they’d say.

Here's the Box Office Roundup for 2024 for the Walt Disney Company and its various flagship studios. Not included in this data is Searchlight Pictures and their two or three very small arthouse films that lost a few million each (whose names I already forgot). Also not included was the odd box office data from the three Pandemic Disney+ movies that Pixar re-released in a limited number of theaters this summer (Luca, Turning Red, Soul).
We can certainly pull those films together if there's interest, but they did comparatively nothing at the box office. So here's Disney's six big movies from 2024, not including Mufasa which only had the last 10 days of the year.
Moana 2: Production $150, Marketing $75, Domestic $237, Overseas $195 = Profit of $207 Million and counting
Alien 9: Production $80, Marketing $40, Domestic $63, Overseas $98 = Profit of $41 Million
Deadpool 3: Production $200, Marketing $100, Domestic $382, Overseas $280 = Profit of $362 Million (!!!)
Inside Out 2: Production $200, Marketing $100, Domestic $392, Overseas $418 = Profit of $510 Million (!!!)
Apes 9, Weekend at Charlton's: Production $160, Marketing $80, Domestic $103, Overseas $90 = Loss of $47 Million

It's really a shame you don't like movies at all.
A Real Pain ($3m budget, $10m acquisition fee -- I have no idea how the economics on those work out) and A Complete Unknown (~$70m budget, largest opening in Searchlight history) are on the fringe for Best Picture nominees, so one or both could see the dreaded Oscar bump come early February. Neither one has really opened anywhere overseas either yet, so making any sort of claim that they're going to lose money is, as always, premature.

HA, and there is our difference. I have no desire to see Superman. I've never liked him as a character anyways, and Gunn has my least favorite Marvel movies of the Infinity Saga. I'm low key excited for Brave New World and Thunderbolts, mainly because they look very action packed. But the trailer for Thunderbolts did not do much for me, which tempered my excitement. Beyond that, we will see when trailers hit. I want to be excited for Zootopia 2 cause I did really like the first. But I'd agree with you, in general I'm not too excited for much in 2025. I think my family will be excited for Wicked Part 2 (not for me though).

Wow….people here must not care for movies too much as there is a ton I am excited for…. Wolf Man, Love Hurts, Mickey 17, Death of a Unicorn, The Amateur, Sinners, Thunderbolts, Mission Impossible, Elio, 28 Days Later, Superman, The Fantastic Four, Nobody 2, The Bride, Wicked for Good, Predator: Badland, Avatar
Plus there are many more that have me curious such as Tron, The Naked Gun, Anaconda etc
I am sure I won’t love all these movies… but based on my anticipation levels I am very excited for 2025 in film

I will be content when I can go to a theater and not see the Mickey 17 trailer.
Really… wow… I go to the theater weekly and I have only seen the trailer for Mickey 17 once…. Interesting to see different trailers are pushed depending on the theater
It’s mostly because Parasite was one of my favorite movies the year it came out….It’s the same director…. I am excited to see what he does next
