DAK 'Encanto' and 'Indiana Jones'-themed experiences at Animal Kingdom

That Chester & Hester's date is later than the date we'd heard a few weeks ago, which makes me think the Dinosaur date is almost certainly also pushed back.
I’m not sure what the original rumored date was but I was thinking it would be challenging to have the three added Moonlight Magic events without most of Dinoland. I am curious if they’ll now get a merch refresh?
At least we get one more holiday season with the decorations that are cute. I expect Dinosaur itself is safe until after spring break at the least.

Very sad day, though.
We will be there in late November and I need to remember to mentally allocate more time to a Dinoland farewell…which will probably be crushed because many people will have the same idea.
Iguanadons are going for big prices on the aftermarket, hoping they get more before November!
We’ve never done a MM before but I’m told a highlight is the “free” carnival games and merchandise you can win. I hope we get the opportunity to win an iguanadon!

Do we really think Indy would be better if stripped of its IP and made to be generic?

I’ll answer for you, it wouldn’t be.

That isn't a fair comparison. If you went in to IJA, ripped out all of the IP and called it a day, then of course it wouldn't be better. Multiple scenes on the ride rely on call backs to the original films and cameos from Indy himself. Without the IP, none of those elements would work. The Indiana Jones IP is integral to IJA as it currently exists.

HOWEVER, if one were to go design an original attraction with the same premise as Indiana Jones Adventure, and replace the cameos and call backs with original scenes, then it could ABSOLUTELY be just as good as IJA, if not even better. The IJ IP isn't even part of the reason IJA is good. It's good because it's a well designed attraction. They didn't need the IP to do that at all

You’re right that IP does not inherently improve the quality of an attraction, and that’s not what I’m talking about.

You said that any original attraction based on dinosaurs would just be a Jurassic Park imitator. No matter how good it is, and no matter how many people liked it. You also said that Shanghai Pirates would be worse if it were an original attraction. And of course, you also said that if you have an idea for an original attraction, and it's possible to add an IP that "fits," then you should add an IP to said attraction.

All of these statements are predicated on the idea that attractions are inherently better with IP, all else being equal. Which is why I disagree.

The issue isn’t IP, the issue is shoehorned IP where it doesn’t belong.

There are a lot of issues with the IP mandate. It isn't just "shoehorned IP where it doesn't belong."

Yes, they do give vouchers for free Fossil games at MM. hopefully that continues this season. However I will say when we did it back in April, the prizes weren’t the usual prizes. They were generic animals.

I will say if the Indy ride is anything like temple of the forbidden eye in DL, I would be a little less sad about losing one of my favorite rides.

Is there any word on if they plan to replace Trilo-Bites, Dino-Bites, and Dino-Diner with new properly themed stands?

I would presume so but I'm pretty sure Pandora ended up with just one real stand and a bunch of little carts.

I think all of the attractions they call “new” are actually replacing older attractions, right?
For wdw, yes. Cars and villains are replacing ROA and TSI, TT 3.0 is replacing TT 2.0, monsters inc is replacing either muppets or animation courtyard, the villains show is replacing racing academy, zootopia is replacing ITTBAB and tropical americas is replacing dinoland. Did I miss anything?

Thanks for the tip! I guess we’ll try to get to Dinoland again before/after the MM visit. I don’t really need any DVC Manatees and I certainly don’t need to wait in a long queue for them.

This year, you can meet Santa Claus at the 75th Annual Dino Institute Holiday Party on the patio at Restaurantosaurus.

This is adorable! I hope it actually looks as good as this concept art; that's a level of detail-packing I expect from Dinoland. They even added O'sauruses.

75th annual doesn't make much sense since the Boneyard was only established in 1947 and I'm pretty sure we're not supposed to be in modern day, but I nitpick.

You know what's wild about this? It was discovered IN THE LATE 1970's.

Related: Plate tectonics was only adopted as the leading theory of continental drift in the 1960's.

The "impact" theory for the origin of Earth's moon was likewise boosted significantly after the Apollo missions brought back lunar samples.
I remember once reading Stephen Jay Gould writing that up to some point you couldn't get tenure in a geology department if you believed continental drift theory was correct and then a few years later you coudn't get tenure if you didn't believe it was correct.
