More likely because they didn't have the technology and/or money to build the footings. A village design was faster and cheaper. It being more 'authentic' was a plus.

Fair point. I also want to believe that they realized the optics of such a building coming out of MK were not what they wanted. They designed the Contemporary to "fit" the view from Tomorrowland, if we are to believe what's been written and said about it over the years, so it makes some sense.

If you could see it from inside the park, sure, but I don't think they've ever worried much about sightlines when you're outside of the park.

You think they didn’t have the resources to design the foundations for a tower even though they were also working on another tower that was built? The Polynesian Village was built using the same modular system as the Garden Wings, any tower would have used the same system the Contemporary tower used.

It costs a lot more money to build a 12-14 story tower than a bunch of low rise buildings. You don't have to put a low rise building's foundation to bedrock.

I haven't looked at the old ground surveys, but its completely possible that the ground was found to not be suitable for a tower in 1970, but with new technology in the last 50 years for drilling/sinking pilings, they could build on the same place now. We know this is the case as they have returned to prior locations previously deemed 'unsuitable' to re-survey for future builds.

They were also at the end of the project...I think the hotels were all built in the last 6 months before opening...I am sure it is more than plausible they were running low on money at that point and a low rise hotel would be the cheapest and fastest build...

I'd call it more pool adjacent than traditional pool bar. It's not in the pool area but is across the walkway and attached to the main building. Open air with bar in the middle. I think some comps are Geyser Point at WL and Three Bridges Bar at Coronado. Presumably is also the bar for first floor dining.

You don’t have to put a high rise’s foundation down to bedrock either.

The thing about a greenfield site is you get to decide where things are placed. Disney decided the location of the Polynesian. Disney decided the location of Seven Sea Lagoon.

You do when you're building in a swamp. If you don't think they're putting pilings into sturdy rock, you've absolutely lost the plot.

It is very close to the parking lot for the Grand Floridian DVC villas and the Wedding Pavillion so the final view might be weird.
