lol, honestly I'm not being facetious, is it doing well? on par with the other remakes?

Compared to the other Disney live action remakes of the last half decade or so, it's looking like this for facts and data...

Mermaid is in fourth place domestically by a a hair. Adjusted for inflation, it's in fourth place by a long shot for domestic box office. And its global box office is definitely in fourth place, no way around that fact. Overseas markets just didn't go for this fish.

Not to pick on you, but is that movie seating chart an actual theater or is it just a 777 going from Chicago to LAX? 8 seats across? 46 total seats in the entire theater? That's a movie theater somewhere??? Or simply an upgrade from Coach to Business Class?

We have several movie theaters like that in my city. The seats are basically recliners, and there are often servers taking drink and food orders.

thanks; about what I thought fwiw. call me crazy, but I never expected this film to do all that well? I mean I didn't expect it to do THIS poorly, like on the verge of losing money poorly, but I would have been a little surprised if it cracked a billion. Consumer fatigue with Disney's franchises, alongside post-covid changes in theatre attendance, kind made it feel like this film was doomed to bring in less $$$ than any of the billion dollar remakes ala TLK, BATB, Aladdin.

I’m not sure that should be a requirement or that it’s a requirement for posting about how much money a movie is making.

There are many people who claim they know what’s good and what isn’t without experiencing it. It sure makes life easier. Why they would want to post so often about something they don’t want to see is beyond me.

Why they would want to post so often about something they don’t want to see is beyond me.

I may not want to see it due to my total hate of these type of remakes, but to see this one do so much worse than I think almost anyone expected is fascinating to me. Yeah, I've said it looked pretty bad to me. But I've also tried to always stress TO ME. If it looked interesting or amazing to others, then that's fine. I will say I also think when you have people making sweeping generalizations and stereotypes about entire races and cultures, it's going to draw in a lot of people in as well (who are then going to stick around).

This thread has existed since 2018. Many dozens upon dozens of pages preceded the film’s opening. To suddenly restrict the discussion to those who have seen it seems bizarre and overly protective.

You have been told multiple times by the moderators on here that you are not supposed to be posting on this thread unless you have seen the movie. Based on your above response, it sounds like you have not seen it.

My directive was made prior to the movie being released, so people were speculating about it. Enough time has passed that enough people have seen it, and there are actual box office numbers - not predictions.

So actual box office numbers can now be discussed.

Despite all the "good reviews" and "good press" and "good word-of-mouth" that allegedly are out there, this latest live-action remake is destined for the flop bin. It dropped another 44% last weekend. It won't even hit $300 million domestically, and international looks even worse. I wonder if it will break even on it's $250 million production budget.

Why on earth would you let someone else tell you what to see or whether or not you’ll enjoy it? It’s possible for people to enjoy things that you personally don’t like. You’re right - it is the same thing but different subjects.

I stated my concern on this…their bad movie practices that have accelerated in recent years…

The Mermaid is the current case study.

Dollars matter. They’re not a charity. It affects their entire philosophy and product…including what I do care more about…in the end.

It’s a “web”…not a “thread”. Not linear

Some people like the live action remakes. I’m looking forward to seeing The Little Mermaid and Moana.

I’m not saying this movie is “bad” at all. I’ve seen nothing to suggest that. Im
Saying it appears
to have been a bad business decision…or at a minimum…calls into question their decisions and degrades their reputation to the consumer.

They can’t continue to deliver underwhelming product and bank on rep to save them. They’ve been doing it ALOT.

Eventually the market (and Disney) will decide. If people are rejecting the product there will be a correction. Some will like it and others won’t.

Yes, you should support the products you like. If you like the little mermaid and the live action remakes, by all means, support it. That's why I said box office numbers are important. It's one measure of engagement from the fans. On the other side, there are many who are sick of them going back to that well. So of course, they aren't going to support it. I am on record that I want the live action remakes to stop. I think they're soulless and not needed. But I won't begrudge anyone who enjoys them. I loved prince of Persia, it lost a ton of money. I'm not going to pretend it was successful. I also don't care if people call it a flop or terrible. I still enjoyed it.

I don’t think that at all. Your making a separate argue and casting me as the villain in it.

It’s not meeting Disneys financial goals. As a fan who wants better product…it’s important for the consumers to ask and demand better. You’ll find I’m 100% consistent in that…

As far as any of the 1000 fastpass arguments goes…you probably didn’t get my gist there. But my head hurts too much for that today. Tangent declined.
