New Sign that Cinderella Castle Dream Lights May Return

Missing the beauty of Cinderella Castle aglow for the holidays? Check out the sign that these may return this year.

This is an ornament seen at Ye Olde Christmas Shop in Magic Kingdom as per the above, and it is labeled “2023.” Could be a sign that the dream lights are returning this year?

Well we’re talking about the same company so:

-Partnered with Lego to do a fancy, huge Cinderella Castle set less then a year before they changed the paint scheme
-Regularly sells WDW specific stuff in DL and visa vers
Etc.

So I still won’t believe it until announced or they go up.

I hope not, looks dated and tacky. You can achieve the same thing with a more modern look with projections and built in LEDs on the turrets like Disneyland Paris has. Looks better than having old fashioned strings of Christmas lights hanging and blowing around on the castle. Looks messy in the day.


And not only that, why is the castle mirrored on the ornament? It's the wrong way around. The biggest turret should be on the right.

Couldn't they just project the lights on the castle without having them there physically. The projections I have seen seem to look quite realistic. I can see them doing that during the holiday season for a short time each evening. The image on the ornament really isn't what the original lights looked like anyway.

No. It would be possible to project an image of lights onto the castle, but projection can't come close to replicating the sharp and vibrant bright crystal-like shine and glow of real light fixtures. It would be a dim and blurry mess by comparison.

Strictly my opinion, but I don't think they are ever coming back, so even if it isn't the same we might as well get over it. That was one expensive decoration, that created a need for weeks of crane pictures, (complained about as much as admired for the finish product) lots of labor before and after. Although a nice thing to see, does not fit in with the current atmosphere at Disney. Imagine what increased use of electricity was needed to fire up those bad boys and keep them all on for hours. It just isn't going to happen. I don't mind being wrong in this opinion, but I will be extremely surprised. It had a good long run and is time to move on to something new. Probably won't be something better, but what in recent years has been.

I assume these were LED lights so electricity cost probably not terrible.

If you really want to modernize it create an "augmented reality" skin for MDE (think pokemon go) that shows the dreamlights when you view the castle through your phone. Imagine the majesty of thousands of people holding their phones aloft to view the spectacle.

I would prefer retro personally, real candles providing jobs for thousands of CMs. I think the fire risk is worth it.

I don't know but I didn't even use that as an option. I said for a while every night, not constant. What will not be cheap is the time it cost to put up, take down and store safely that is huge in itself unless it's all being done by volunteers.
