How do/did previews work in the past for other rides? Do you know if you needed a park pass if you are a DVC member? Was it a lottery? Did you need to have a confirmed hotel reservation?

Assuming:

1) Cast previews first
2) Cast previews with family members
3) DVC (or AP)
4) AP (or DVC)

When I did Remy, a link dropped via email, and you went in and tried to get a slot for a date and time. Think like VQ/FP. They book up quick so if you don't get the email in a timely fashion (it's not on your phone to ding, it's delayed in arriving in your inbox etc) you may miss out. However when they do arrive they often get posted which adds to the jump to get on board.

As far as park reservations, IIRC I did not need to make one for it; it automatically did (but showed up later/closer to it), it was moot for me b/c it was after 2pm and I could hop; but I'm sure if MK would reach park capacity one w/ the reservation (thus theoretically PP if they do the same thing) would be able to get in.

At this point, probably not. Disney decided the slow play it, and pick up pace in recent times, but the timeline is now largely set.
Makes no sense to not have it open for Spring break/Easter crowds, especially with Splash down.........It's not like it would change hotel bookings if they opened it March 1 vs April 21

Would love to know the logic

If I had to guess, the logic was cost and spreading it out over a specific period of time. The problem is that they scheduled contractors and laid things out in a certain manner/process and, at this point, they can't change/accelerate. @lazyboy97o could do this description much more justice, though I think that he already has. Their logic is not focused on appeasing us as fans but on accounting and reporting, probably. It could even be a thing where they preserve the first quarter reporting without adding a huge new asset with depreciation schedules until the second quarter.

I find the locker policy at Universal to be the single strongest deterrent to me visiting their parks. I have nightmares about their locker facilities. Also, sometimes you need something in your bag while in a 3-hour line…

I pack a 3-course dinner any time I get in line for Rise of the Resistance. Better safe than sorry.

I even share my chimichurri sauce. But I’m a stand-up guy like that.
EVERYBODY in line is a "stand-up" guy...

Nope..........depreciation for a ride that costs hundreds of millions for 1Q is less than a drop in the ocean (never mind the bucket)

Bad guess

As I have said several times, the logic is that it simply is not ready. The timeframe is now locked in it cant go any quicker at this point, and that is that.

Having it open for SB/EB (a) won't increase the crowds, which will already be insane, and (b) runs the risk of extremely bad publicity like they saw with RotR if things break and the ride goes down for long periods with thousands of people waiting in line or for their boarding group.

At some point you have to recognize that some are not interested in actual information.

I don't know if i believe that......My guess is that all the work is done on this attraction by Feb 15th at the latest (and it could have been accelerated) and it sits around like Remy did
