News Tron coaster coming to the Magic Kingdom

I haven’t seen this mentioned anywhere at all including about the one in Shanghai, so I’ll say it here. Have we ever seen the lightcycle train lighting up with yellow/orange lights instead of the usual blue? I know there’s a section of the ride where you “race” against yellow lightcycles for a brief moment, however I’ve never seen any photos of the ride vehicles themselves with yellow lighting. The reason I’m bringing this up is because while I was watching the testing from near SM the other day, during one of the test runs the train was glowing yellow instead of blue, and as I had never seen that before, it piqued my interest. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get a photo of it since it only happened for one of the test runs I saw. I actually waited there with my phone out and watched for roughly 15 minutes with the hopes I would catch it again, but unfortunately every single train after that was either the usual blue or just not lit up at all. Does this mean anything significant? Perhaps they’re planning on making the trains alternate colors every cycle? That would be a cool way to differentiate it from Shanghai’s version, if not just a cool effect in general. Any thoughts?

The race against the yellow lightcycle is achieved with a mirror and your vehicle’s lights turning yellow.

Just FWIW, it seems like the building is visible from inside SDL as well so its probably more of a "this design doesn't work for a park trying to hide backstage buildings" as opposed to "this was not designed properly for MK".

I am NOT trying to put MK's Tron on a pedestal - but this is the disadvantage of having Tron more prominently sitting forward in the park. It is not a well designed attraction for show angles. In fact there is only one nice vantage from Shanghai (the one you always see photographed) and a ton of terrible angles, some from the parade route.

Having it tucked away in MK is a blessing. That said, they easily could have addressed this by also running up an additional canopy against the show building, like the MoPOP in Seattle.

You should reread and try to understand context. I was not discussing the light being seen when viewing the canopy in its immediate area.

"I'd describe it more as light pollution than a feature."? It doesn't sound like a compliment.

yeah it def looms over tsl. I think though the they are gonna be redoing that area soon if not starting already, when they do it might not be seen

This seems like a decent point until you realize it was less than two years after the park opening that the building now housing the Cheshire Cafe was built, hiding the plain side of the Mr. Toad building. That's really the only egregious thing in your photo, it's singular and not plural, and was done away with pretty quickly.

I guess if you want we can check back in 2 years and see if they've addressed the TRON showbuilding the way they did for the comparatively miniscule Toad building. But I think we know how that'll turn out.

That's really the only egregious thing in your photo, it's singular and not plural, and was done away with pretty quickly.

I would argue that, even if they fix all inside-the-park views of TRON, its show building is still technically on stage because it's so prominent when viewed from the Contemporary, and you have to consider that one big aspect of the allure of the Seven Seas Lagoon resorts is the ability to look out your window at the castle. You pay more for a room that looks toward the park, and a big box to the right kind of spoils that.

I can see where you're coming from on backstage views mostly only visible from transportation, but Ratatouille is really close to being a bit of extra magic as you zip out of EPCOT. They could seriously fix it with some landscaping, a gate, and a few yards of facade to wrap around the edge of the building to meet with the rooftop access stairwell. If they wanted to get fancy, they could continue it past that or maybe even create a simple parallax art installation on the rest of the show building with "goodbye" in various languages when leaving and "hello" when arriving, but even that wouldn't be necessary. Just resolving the edge and tidying things up would work wonders.

Again, spending that extra money does not improve the in park view, or add anything to Skyliner other than spending a few million to appease the 1% that are offended by it. I'd rarther they fix issues within the parks.

To me, what makes Disney special is that the parks themselves traditionally weren't the only area considered to be on stage. The resorts and (non-bus) transportation felt like they were part of the whole experience. While I agree that the parks probably have bigger issues, I think letting TRON, Cosmic Rewind, and Ratatouille go unaddressed sets a precedent that is both dangerous and unworthy of the premium pricetag associated with the experience.

Literally anything that is not simply a warehouse. On the cheaper end, they could round the corners and subtly pattern it like the grid, or cover it in large-scale dimensional hexagonal tiles that echo the LED arrays under the canopy. On the extremely expensive end, they could build a scaled-down futuristic city skyline that complements the lines of Space Mountain and provides interesting vistas from the train and PeopleMover. Or they could do anything in between, as long as it feels intentional. The problem is that it is obviously unthemed, not that it is simple or generically futuristic.

exactly..the Tron building should be as hired as possible....just not a visible box. However, im still not convinced this attraction will be done until like June 2023...at the current labor work rate.

It should have been designed so you can't see the box like the other rides in MK, and if that was not possible, then it shouldn't have been built at all.

If whoever you’re sourcing isn’t allowed to be posted here, then it’s actually impossible for them to have “always been right” thus far. There’s a reason certain links are blocked.

Also, it’s an active construction zone. Dirt and grime will accumulate, and cleaning of the worksite at the end of the project is generally built into the cost.
