EPCOT Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind attraction confirmed for Epcot

Was listening on Spotify during work, when all of a sudden I was caught off guard with a Guardians ad!

Out of all the years I've been using Spotify, never had I come across a WDW ad. It was a well made one too imo.

Started with some girl saying the Guardians need help at Epcot and then Rocket comes on and gives a spiel.

Disney has to make the advertising campaign for Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind a national ad campaign to adhere to the terms of the Marvel/MCA agreement. Therefore you'll see more advertising for this ride across the country than other campaigns.

I don't think that was very well received, so probably not.

One thing that was well received IIRC was the dragon over new fantasyland. Why they haven’t brought that back as a regular showpiece is beyond me.

They were a cool idea... but then all they did was fly up, hover, then lower back down. Pretty underwhelming.

It is underwhelming in youtube videos but it was pretty cool seeing it live and that's really what this is for.

Ok that's the worst I've seen. That's actually offensive and shows how little they know their audience. Anyone who gets the nostalgic references here is likely to also be the most special skeptical of the Epcot redo. The ride that most fully demonstrates the death of the original park should not get merch inspired by that original park.

Going from my favorite park to a place I literally will not visit is a shame. I realize this is a personal opinion, but they are really, really missing the mark.

Apologies I don't have any pics handy.

The blue one is a direct lift of some of the original EPCOT Center merch. It usually has the Epcot logo (interlocking rings) in the center. They actually released an updated version as part of one of the first retro merch lines several years ago.

The pink and orange journal(?) is a pretty clear lift of the WDW art logo they used on several things after EPCOT Center opened (shopping bags, restaurant trays, etc). Exact same color and art style. The original had the castle and then SSE in the background with a Mickey similar to Groot here.

The blanket seems to be the new poster, so that's more recent.

The only way this would be a potential pass is if they were doing the same for all the FW pavilions - having Guardians be first. (Doubt that's happening .). Otherwise, having Guardians be the use of the old lines this way seems really off.

So it looks like I need to get my finger ready to hit refresh. I wonder if it is possible to have 1 phone working on the virtual que, and one on the LL purchase. Not trying to cheat the system, just go with which ever we can get first.

I was wondering this as well - we’ll be there in July for the first time in nearly 3 years and knowing that there’s no guarantee we can get on this ride is going to make the morning of an Epcot trip very stressful. The silly thing is, as we’re travelling from the UK, we would be quite happy to queue all day long if we had to, to try this ride at least once.

A standby queue naturally filters out the guests who feel their time is better spent elsewhere, but this system means there is no reason not to try to get a boarding pass, and the more chances you’ve had to do so, the better you are at the process. I would’ve thought this would be pretty bad for guest satisfaction overall… I know we’ll be upset if we can’t get a boarding pass during our trip.

I hear ya. I'll be disappointed as well if we can't. I wish they had a stand by queue. We actually enjoy the line and people watching, as crazy as that is to some.

Absolutely - we had a great time in the 4 hour queues for FOP when that first opened! Everyone in the queue was so excited for it that it didn’t matter how ridiculous the wait was.

Perhaps they've decided that VQ's are less trouble to manage than standby for newer, popular rides? I think they should have started with at least an option of standby for those willing. Perhaps though that comes with the 'problem' of people arriving at 1am or earlier to wait and how to 'supervise' them? I remember with Potter there were people queuing at that time and Universal had to open backstage areas to accommodate the huge lines along with giving out free water to keep people hydrated etc. Also with a VQ if the ride has problems then at least you've not got people who've waited 6 hours+ in a line being told "Sorry folks but the ride's down for the day" which happened at Hagrids with a lot of irate guests to then deal with.

I think personally Disney should allow those who want to wait a really long time and get there early the chance to do so, they know the risks and are willing to wait all night and day if need be. However I can see why Disney may not want the hassle, though I think they're wrong doing it as VQ only.
