Berkeley County has a very long standing history of doing whatever the frick wants.... It's gotten into plenty of political fights with both SCDHEC and the state school board during the last 2 years.

I already had tests that proved it was just a cold and not covid. It's not like they held me at gunpoint and forced me to send her to school, but at the same time they gave me no alternative way to keep home and continue to learn with the class.

Virtual learning is literally only for those who are covid positive or have been sent home from the school due to covid exposure. If you do not meet those requirements, you just fall behind or come to school.

Hiya . Before covid, I worked near Daniel island... They still haven't brought us back in yet. I'm kind of hoping they just leave me home now.

I will say that Charleston county has handled the entire situation a lot better than Berkeley.

Yup, know that area. When my husband worked for Charleston county government, he would do some work out that way.

I am shocked kids are being forced as well. We have kids our because parents are worried. No penalty.

Ohio state starts tomorrow. In person. Major university not delaying.

I think most people will legitimately be exposed. Still not convinced all will test positive at some point. But that's based on in home spread - or lack of.

I will say that Charleston county has handled the entire situation a lot better than Berkeley.

Find yourself a good Charter School even if it is part of CCSD. I only have one left in HS and we did private school up till HS and both went to James Island Charter HS even tho we dont live on JI. Kids have always had Mask optional. My oldest is @ USC and Masks are only for classes indoors and when in hall ways of dorms.. also no testing for kids returning. they have a random test schedule so you can return with out a test. My youngest works in a bar 3 nights a week with no masks and as far as we know. he hasnt had it. I had both the Flu A and Covid during the holidays and the FLU was worse then OmiCon

Doesn’t mean we’ll all get it but we’re all definitely being exposed on a daily basis right now if we’re leaving our houses.

I agree that you have a risk of being exposed when in public. What gets me is the rhetoric that since your risk of getting Covid with Omnicron is high that we shouldn't bother with restrictions.

That's not what the positivity rate is. It's a percent of those who tested who are positive.

More than a bit of a guess. Given the percent out in school right now, I'd wager much lower. Like less than 2% of my district has kids or teachers out. Do I think it's everywhere, yeah, but 1 in 4 means this will be over for cases like now.

Whoopi almost died in 2019 when she battled pneumonia then went into septic shock. She was absent from The View for several weeks.

That would mean that if we tested all 330M US citizens/residents, we’d have ~83M positives within the next 3-4 days (giving time for early infections to develop into detectable virus levels). Omicron is everywhere and hopefully near it’s ridiculously infectious peak, but I think that’s a but extreme for a ballpark.

I have not left our house in 7 days. We leave in a couple weeks for vacation and I am not getting sick now!! The only way I am getting it is if DH brings it home from work.

We’ve run into this, as well. It’s as if COVID is the only illness to worry about any more.

My youngest had a nasty breakthrough case of Flu A over Christmas break. If it would have been when school was in session, we would have had no choice but to send our oldest to school until he showed symptoms. No contact tracing the flu to an asymptomatic sibling, and archaic attendance policies would mean he’d lose all of those days’ work of close contact quarantine.

If we’re going to be serious as a society about minimizing respiratory virus season, that will all need to change. But we “lived with” so much in the past, I don’t see much societal appetite even though the infrastructure has vastly improved in the last 2 years.

What makes this all worse is that we did take it seriously just over a decade ago and it worked. Organizations and institutions made their sick policies much more open and flexible for the swine flu. People were allowed to just stay home if they felt cold or flu like symptoms and it didn’t kill everything. People didn’t just load around skipping school and work. People didn’t get sick at work and just “power through” they’d ent home and rested. And now we’re doing it again all because we “have to return to normal” no matter how stupid normal was.
