On a side note one of my coworkers who I often go with has been battling cancer for almost a decade, her type (I want to say lymphoma ?) is chronic and will never go away, they just beat it into remission and then she waits for it to return again. She is currently in remission and goes to DL every month, she knows the next bout could be her last and isn’t willing to “waste” (her words) any of the time she has left with her kids. I can’t imagine her decision making process but I can see both sides of her argument. No right or wrong answer in my opinion, we all just weigh our options and do what we feel is best.

Last summer while we were all out of work and isolating there was 6 of us who’d all play cards a few nights a week at their place and we’d all be extra cautious during the week to make sure we didn’t bring it to their place. Once we went back to work (including her) that seemed oddly unnecessary.

Slowing it down and avoiding severe illness are more important and achievable aims under the present circumstances, which is why the booster remains important.

I’ve probably missed it in this thread but is there any actual data on hospitalization of vacinated vs. boosted broken down by age?

Honestly, before I moved to the US, I’d never even heard of the flu vaccine, and I didn’t start having it regularly until about five years ago. I don’t think the urgent drive to get people vaccinated against COVID can really be compared to the more muted campaign surrounding annual flu shots, particularly not in a British context.

Well I’ve been at MK for the past few hours after a 3.5 week theme park break, and I can see why so many have returned home sick.

Mask usage is terrible, so many either dropped below their nose or not wearing inside at all. Apparently people have figured out if they’re not in line of sight with a CM they can’t get in “trouble.” Reasonable social distancing doesn’t exist anymore, even when there’s no reason to crowd.

Bandanas are now apparently acceptable as I watched someone in POTC use that. The two young guys that sat directly in my boat took their masks off immediately after the ride started. I heard them say something to the tune of “they won’t say anything after the ride starts.”

Im vaxed and boosted and accept the risks but it’s just sad to me how many can’t follow basic rules for 15 minutes and have decent respect for the people around them. I don’t care what your opinion is on masks or the effectiveness etc, but at least have respect for your fellow guests and cast members. I saw very few CM’s correct mask wearing, but I can’t even blame them at this point.

Thanks. Very helpful and about what I expected. It’s not large numbers of vaxed but not boosters. It’s large numbers of unvaxxed, and small numbers of both vaxed and boosted.

I'd like that data plus the addition of age, weight, and comorbidities.
That would give people a more accurate assessment of what their personal risks are.

Interesting. Obviously California and Florida are different places but our experience at Disneyland was quite different. The parks were packed for New Year's (after ~11AM; the first 2-3 hours of the day were awesome). A kid <10 was the only person I son not complying with the mask rules out there.

My experience at Disneyland this past September was similar to what @disneygeek90 is describing, yet the day I went to WDW the next month had people mostly following guidelines.

I think it depends upon the crowd you get that day/week. It seems it's either one extreme or the other when it comes to how guests act.

There’s a huge difference between the effectiveness of masks and the effectiveness of mask mandates, for the reason you just stated. A lot of the people I know who have “no problem” with masks are doing exactly what you describe. I agree with everything you said about this being disrespectful, regardless of one’s personal feelings about masks.

I'm at the point where mask usage doesn't bother me as much as people standing on top of me again. Whenever some one doesn't give me my space I let them know.

And if theme parks shouldn’t be open... why should any indoor dining, movie theaters, concert venues etc?

I think it was mostly fine for the parks to have been open for all of 2021. But right now? Literally any public gathering is becoming a superspreading event.

I also don't think indoor dining, theaters, or concert venues should be open. We didn't have any of that in Spring 2020. I'm not saying it needs to be eradicated to reopen. But how anyone can genuinely believe we shouldn't consider a 14-21 day shutdown like in 2020 to just curb a little of this insane Omicron wave. It's criminal that Walt Disney World is open right now.

Agreed. I try to do the same. I actually do believe that masks help but even if I didn’t I would probably wear one just for respect of the workers.

For this pandemic I agree. With a President saying any lockdowns are off the table I don't see how they could ever go back to requiring them. It was a huge blow to business and a ton of fake money was pumped into the economy to get through them we can now know it was necessary but very damaging. We won't go back unless something on such a scale happens so quickly again.

If you are fit, healthy, and young your chances of being hospitalized or dying from Covid are significantly decreased - especially if you've been vaccinated and wear a mask. You go along thinking you're safe. So if that actually happens to you, despite doing everything "right", you must have done something else "wrong"- or maybe that's just the way life is. No guarantees.
