It's also another example of why declaring "I'm over it" and pretending there is no pandemic anymore isn't a prudent course of action for any of us regardless of our vaccination status (especially when that allows anti-vaxxers to "identify as vaccinated" and go maskless in public).

It does seem like people are saying this, acting like this, and it’s crazy.

The virus doesn’t care if you are over it or not. The virus has one mission and one goal, find hosts, spread, survive, and hopefully doesn’t kill the host so it can continue its mission.

And I see a lot of talk about “it’s milder so it’s not that bad, maybe it means endemic if we all get it” … lest we forget an important reason we want to minimize spread is because of these damn mutations that lead to variants.

Are we lucky this one seems to be milder? Yes. Could it not have been? Yes. Could another come that’s not mild? Yes.

Quite frankly I’m not sure if the human race at this point has any way of stopping covid. I think we are on a path of learning to live with it, and hopefully it just fizzles out like Spanish Flu or SARS.

The bulk of mainstream media has little interest in giving the people information that they can utilize on any topic.
That's not just with the subject of covid, and it isn't new.
They've been like this for decades, and long before even cable news existed.
They've always done it with health and nutrition stories for insatance.
Giving viewers just enough information - "Story at 11:00!" - to tune in - while providing it in such a manner to leave the viewer confused.
Chocolate is healthy now?
Eggs are good now?
"They keep changing what is good or bad for us."

The problem with this narrative is that it reductively and disingenuously groups a myriad of dissimilar outlets under the same umbrella. There is no good reason to conflate reliable, (largely) nonpartisan sources such as the BBC, NPR, and Reuters with the likes of Fox News, MSNBC, or CNN just because they all vaguely qualify as “mainstream”. Moreover, those who rail against “mainstream media” (often the same crowd as the “do your own research” folks) seldom share the sources they rely on to get their news. We’re all dependent on what others report about the events of the world. I’d much sooner take my chances with well-established outlets that have proven track records of factual reporting than with fringe websites that just tell me what I want to hear or believe.

(To avoid any accusations of hypocrisy, I will acknowledge that I read The Guardian, which is clearly not unbiased in its editorial standpoint, though its factual reporting is solid, and I always read it alongside other sources.)

You can say anything you want. Really, I have no interest in telling people, even the ones with bad takes to shut up. But there has to be an expectation that applies to everyone. Which means if you get to post your positive, and others get to add-on "let it rip", then people like me get to add-on what we want too. I am having a hard time reading your response and interpreting it as an example of "think rationally." You asked a why question, I gave you an answer and you responded with accusations and labels.

Human behavior is human behavior, and it is rational thinking that when in an environment where you know one party is going to suggest a path that leads to a undesirable cost... death and disability that other people will push back against those things. Based on your phrasing and your continued annoyance with people pointing out consequences, I can only conclude that this is what counts as "extremism from the other side." I feel like your intent is to shame me and others for pushing back against the "let it rip" crowd.

I agree with you. Learning to live with it is continue social distancing, wear masks when indoors and stay cautious. You can live your life and still so those things. Like I said before, I still go out to eat, been out to hockey games and been going to my local amusement park often. At the same time I wear my mask around big crowds and keep my distance from people. IMO that's how we learn to live with it. It's a slow process. The problem is many think it's should end yesterday

I have been out since these new restrictions were put in place and had no issues going out to eat. Nobody I know were separated for Christmas.

The next day isn’t guaranteed for any of us. But, if that’s how they want to do things to fight the virus, that’s what they can do. It’s their country.

That's also a sad commentary for some ( not directly at you ) . Live life today even making with unhealthy, unwise etc decisions because of the mindset the next day is not guaranteed. Going back to virus, if that's the way to combat the virus kudos to them.

Yes, I would probably put you in one of the more extreme groups based on just this reply alone. I also feel it is your intent to shame me, so there's that.

Over 20,000 new cases in NJ today, 40 new deaths. We generally had less than 10 deaths a day in the summer. Hospitalizations are just shy of their peak last January.

I'm doing a funeral tonight for a healthy 53 year old who died of COVID last Thursday. The deceased went into the hospital the day before their vaccination appointment.

My husband's hospice company is pulling people from in-home visits unless they are medically necessary - social work and chaplaincy to be done by phone. Nursing homes are requesting more PCR testing than the normal weekly testing of hospice staff, and the company is declaring some nursing homes off-limits for January based on COVID outbreaks.

Get vaccinated. Just do it. Freedom isn't anarchy. Freedom is about being able to create an environment in which everyone can thrive. Selfish choices ruin it for others and aren't freedom.

i tried posting an article for this but it failed. has anyone read about a self proclaimed plague spreader from italy? he would purposely try to spread the virus as mush as he can, such as going to stores mask less, etc. he recently died of covid. god knows how many people he might’ve infected, or who else died because of him. i have to admit i’m not having any sympathy for him.

I wish I could go back to the days where the hot topic was the thousand of posts of pros and cons of the Disney Skyliner and a number of forum members who were passionate with their respective posts. A family member of mine today was rushed to hospital in another state , VA. Don't know the details but the hospital has new rules in the ER, no one allowed inside except the patient. I can see hospitals if not already not allowing non patients inside their facility. I was allowed in ER this summer when my family member was on a stretcher bed in the small hallway for 9 hours until a room was available in the main wing due to overcrowding in ER and rooms need to be made available in the hospital which takes some time.
