As far as I can tell that isn't true. They stopped isolation and contact tracing of asymptomatic individuals. That would imply they are still being tested:

Yeah, this is why even though there is already enough to not be optimistic about, I'd still wait until Thursday before starting to even think about waving any kind of victory flag.

SA stopped testing asymptomatic people
Eventually everyone is going to do that I would imagine.
Outside of major professional outfits (sports leagues, healthcare, high risk workers, maybe some fortune 100 companies?) there has never really been centralized proactive testing. Individual people are only seeking tests if they are symptomatic, reacting to an exposure, or pursuing a proactive test themselves for a private reason. SA was testing people who they thought were exposed as a proactive mitigation, but they gave up. We never really tried in America.
I'm thinking of sports in particular.

In the case of the U.K., that’s because there was only partial reporting over the weekend.
Figures today, from BBC articles:
“Meanwhile, England reported a record number of cases on Christmas Day.
The figures showed there were 113,628 new infections reported in England on 25 December, 103,558 on 26 December and 98,515 on 27 December”.
“Scottish Covid cases hit record numbers over the Christmas weekend.
The daily case figures recorded over the 25, 26 and 27 December were the highest totals seen throughout the entire pandemic.
Christmas Day saw 8,252 cases confirmed. Boxing Day registered 11,030 cases and Monday's total was 10,562”.

However, in our absence... looks like the clinical evidence is coming in that Omicron is intrinsically less pathogenic even in the unvaccinated, with significantly less lung involvement. However, the large increase in transmissibility still leads to the math of sending too many people to the hospital all at once. I posted upthread about the immunology warning that severity is not just a matter of the virus but the host response. So as the host, make sure you put up your best defense by being vaccinated & boosted and being mindful of who you might be exposing (immunocompromised) and avoiding the highest risk situations so you can be safer in the highest priority situations.

Have any reputable sources done an in depth comparison of states yet?
I’ve been trying to compare states to see if things like masks, social distancing, etc make a substantial difference and I’m finding it impossible with so many factors.
I was in Utah for Christmas and their stats are similar to Nevada but they never implemented mask mandates and we’ve had them for nearly 2 years now. FL and CA are also frequently compared based on their Governors very different approaches.
Where I’m getting stuck is Utah has the youngest population in the nation, NV and CA are in the middle, and Florida is the oldest.
Can someone point me to a study that compares rates per state by age group to see what works and what doesn’t?

Nice that it warns people to watch the news before vacationing in FL but doesn't mention the places they are likely to be coming from have even more cases per 100k population.
